Yes! This is coming soon. I've put classes on hold until I can find a decent spot to rent. So for that being said, I am going to offer private lessons and do portfolio reviews. I did it, made 2 updates today. Although this will post on 9/3, I still started typing on 9/2...it counts! Yes it does, I said so...there.
I missed yesterday
Already I suck. But...I was tired and at the end of the night I'm usually on my ipad. It's very hard to write completely on that device unless I have the keyboard attached.
I did not, so I digress. What did I do towards my goals? Well, not a whole lot but I thought about a way to gain more exposure. I am going to use Tuesdays to post my latest work on www.500px.com. This way I'll be just like a rock star dropping an album. Most people are too busy on mondays catching up on what happened from the weekend. [the email log]. So I thought Tuesdays most people would be on 500px or other sites.
So far, it's worked well. I posted around 10:30 am US time, one of the most popular as most people looking at 500px are in Canada or US. I have just about secured my highest rated photo.
What does this mean for me? Well I'd like to get my landscape work out there and get noticed. If more people like, comment, follow, and share my work, that might just happen.
Is this a social experiment? Why yes, I do believe so. If a photo does bad I'd like to know if it's a bad photo and not just posted at the wrong time. Vice versa, if a great photo is posted at the wrong time and no one sees it, then I am not doing myself a favor. Play the game by the rules and I should net some better results.
The experiment will be compared against photos that have recently been rated highly, but not nearly as high as the one posted today. http://500px.com/photo/81875849/hairy-man-road-by-cody-ash
We'll see where this journey takes me. I hope to new places with my photography and not just a conclusion in the experiment that anything I post in a decent time frame will get over a 90 rating on the site.
Today is the day
After reading an article just now I think I need to do two things. 1. Be maniacally focused on my goals in life. 2. Write down how I'm doing on those goals using this journal. Keeping little thoughts and progress should help me out. Goal 1 for today is long term. To be done with Dell or corporate America by age 40. Gasp...40 is 8.2 years away. Can I do it? YES! First I need to be more financially stable. By then the kids will be out of daycare. There's 1200 per month back in the pocket. Our cars will be paid off, there's 800 more. So in 5 years I've put back 2000 back in my pocket. In 14 years one of our mortgages will be paid and that 400 more in the book. Exceeds the 8.2 year plan but hey it's worth noting. In 3 years all the credit cards should be paid off. That's huge because we will have paid off our wedding, house loan, cars, honeymoon, and cc debt by age 35. Huge accomplishment! If we can just avoid going on any lavish vacation or doing any major home improvements (if we do shoot me this house is 1 year old) then we should be able to save a ton of money per month. So what will get me out of this job and into shooting photos and teaching photography full time? We'll to manage this lifestyle we have I'll still need to pull in about 4 grand per month. After taxes and medical and IRA. so let's say I need 1000 per week after all that and I shoot 5 jobs a week. Each job will need to be at least 300 per shoot. The other day I was watching Sue Bryce and someone mentioned charging 295 for 1 8x10 portrait. Wow, I could do that fairly easy. Ok now on to number 2 in this post. What am I doing daily to get to this goal? Currently I am either reading, watching, listening, or shooting all things photography. It's got to be something I want to do as a living because I sit and watch it all day long on twitter, google plus, Instagram...etc. I follow all the big names right now and absorb what they are doing. My biggest debate right now is what to shoot. I love shooting landscapes. I love portraits as well. I love teaching photography as well. So I have combined all this into a business to get others on the learning path to success with photography. Central Texas Studios (www.centexstudios.com) will focus on teaching photography, lighting, editing, etc. it's a place to come and learn thru some classroom style and hands on training. On the side I plan to keep Cody ash photography (www.codyash.net) open as well to shoot personal projects. I want to shoot a fashion project, a pin up, boudoir, kids, high school seniors, and more! I want to find my specialty and then go head first into it. When you love your work it shows. One of these days my work will just be fun and I'll enjoy the hell out of it.
Brushing my chompers
I shot some video at a concert and used Photoshop to pull the clips together with some transitions and text. I didn't know you could do this and the video itself is not a blockbuster by any means but it was nice to be able to cut some clips and pull them together to make a video.
So cool #r2d2 #starwars
How can #photographers not like this???
