As the blonde at the door called over her shoulder, to someone who Anna presumed was Cody Tyler (Rachel had never said anything about her being a Cordelia), Anna’s eyes darted down to survey her appearance. She wasn’t sure why she was so concerned about what a teenage girl might think of her, but nevertheless, she persisted. Anna tugged anxiously at the cuffs of the tan trench coat she’d donned, before her hands quickly found their way into her hair to neaten it. She gave it a quick pat as though to confirm that yes, it was still lank and lifeless as ever, and returned her attentions to the door.
If Anna could tell anything by the short interaction between the two, she realised there seemed to be some sort of general disagreement between the two about coming to the door. Anna was very well versed at the wars between sisters, having had to tear Rachel and Hales apart many a time when Rachel had dirtied Hael’s favorite white dress, or Hael had given her a sly, cruel pinch on her way out of the door. There seemed to be a sort of sisterly camaraderie between the two, if the smug tones and cursing were anything to go by.
Anna directed a pinched, polite smile towards the pregnant girl, Katherine, and peered her head around the door in search of Cody Tyler. She’d seen pictures of her, of course, but a picture didn’t quite prepare you for the real thing. At least not in this case. Rising from her place on the couch, Cody made her way over to the door, and Anna forced her face into a blank, expressionless state.
She’d been prepared for the shock of the blue hair. It wasn’t completely unheard of, to see a girl with vibrantly coloured hair. Still, when it was tied together with the nose ring, and the kohl eyeliner heavily rimmed around her eyes, the whole thing made quite a volatile package. Anna clipped her desire to appear shocked, or to say something rude. She’d never been as bold and outspoken as her sisters, but there was something of the Solo girl outlandishness in her.
The corners of Anna’s mouth rose up, only to be wiped off her face at Cody’s harsh greeting. God forbid she see her little sister with a girl like this. Brody or no Brody, Anna would just have to do the sensible, brave thing and sit Rachel down, warn her off the man. It just wasn’t what was done.
“I… I’m sorry to bother y’all.” she insisted, plastering a smile on her face and getting ready to depart.
Still… the more you told Rachel not to do something, the more she wanted to covet it. And Anna remembered the wicked glint in her eyes when she’d talked about how cool Cody was, and how she’d made Anna swear on pain of death that she wouldn’t tell their Mom she skipped school with Cody. She’d had that same glint in her eyes when she’d talked about Janine, and Ruby. Neither of them had had blue hair, and it had ended in disaster all the same.
Steeling herself, she took a deep breath.
“My name’s Anna.” she started, looking sheepish. “I’m figurin’ you’re the Cody Tyler that knows my little sister, Rachel? Right?”
Pressing her lips together nervously, she searched Cody’s face for any signs of recognition.
“Can I talk to y’all about her?”
After years of growing up in a house where she felt ignored, surrounded by parents who often forgot to come home at night to their six year old girl, Cody had long since lost any trace of manners that might have been instilled into her had she received better parenting. She was well aware that she had a serious lack in tack, and that she often startled people on first, second, and even twentieth meeting. Generally speaking, she took no notice of what other people thought of her. She'd spent far too much of her life caring about the opinions of others and wanting to impress people that she'd grown a skin so thick that she'd become immune to the wary and disapproving stares so often bestowed upon her.
Still, sometimes – though rare – she exercised a little caution when it came to her own blunt and less than charming ways of addressing strangers, and realised that she should probably tone it down just a notch. That didn't mean she was gonna smile for the prissy blonde stood before her, or that she was gonna invite her in for a cup of tea and a gossip, but she could probably go without the blunt tones and eyerolling for a minute or so.
“It's whatever, you're good,” she responded with a shrug. While she hadn't wanted to get up, and could think of a million things she'd rather be doing than standing at the door entertaining some random lady, she hadn't done anything to offend or piss off Cody just yet. Only time would tell, though. “So, uh. What's up?”
Sceptically watching the woman, she tried to figure out where she might know her from. She was positive she'd never met her before – there was no way she'd ever slept with this chick – but there had to be some reason she was pounding on her doorway, and why she'd specifically asked for her and not Kit. She knew who Cody was, but Cody didn't have the faintest fucking clue who she was.
On top of all of that, the woman looked just about as confused as Cody felt. Despite being the one to knock on her door, she looked near ready to bolt and forget their brief interaction had ever even happened. And while Cody would be all too pleased to return to the comforts of her apartment and throw herself back down on the couch, her intrigue got the better of her and she was all too curious to find out what was going on.
“Listen, lady, I'm not tryna be rude or anything, but... What is it you want with me?”
She posed the question as politely as possible – which, for her own standards, was pretty impressive, even if she doubted the lady in question would appreciate the effort that went into it. Raising an eyebrow, she nodded slowly as the woman – Anna – introduced herself, her lips forming into a thin line that she hoped would vaguely pass as a smile – that was about as good as this Anna chick was getting from her for now – only for it to soon dissolve into a look of sheer confusion.
“Rachel?” she questioned, squinting momentarily as she tried to place the name. It only took her a few seconds to recall the hot blonde that she went to University with. “Uhh, yeah. I know her.”
While she wouldn't consider Rachel one of her friends, and she didn't know her as well as she might know someone like Kit, or Jess, she did know that they had a few mutual friends, and had ended up within each other's company on more than one occasion. She seemed pretty chill for the most part, and even Jess talked pretty highly of her, and not even Cody could let the girl pass her by without admiring her ass as she walked away.
Still, regardless of how hot the chick was, why the hell would her sister be at Cody's apartment? And what could they possibly have to talk about?
“Sure, whatever. We can, um... talk,” she shrugged, still confused as all fuck.
Still lingering awkwardly in the doorway, she leaned against the door frame as she scanned Anna up and down. The thought of the girl in front of her being related to Rachel seemed all kinds of weird in itself. Anna was kinda hot, in her own way, for sure, and she and Rachel both had that rough, and sexy lilt to their accent, but they couldn't have been further apart. Rachel was all legs and ass and wavy hair, and she had that 'preacher's daughter' vibe to her that Cody found kinda hot. Anna was far more put together than pretty much anyone that had ever stepped foot in Cody's apartment, though she supposed if she squinted she could see the familial resemblance.
“Dunno how much I can help you or shit, but hit me, I guess?”
