Magnolia Electric Co. - "Leave The City"
Less than a month until the one year anniversary of Jason Molina's death. Footage from a tribute concert that took place on 5/11/13.
"I know this sounds silly, and I know that I might sound ridiculous...like this is the scene of the movie...where the guy is trying to get a hold of the long-lost son, y'know, but this is that scene. This is that scene. And I think they have those scenes in movies because they're true. Y'know, because they really happen. And you gotta believe me, this is really happening. I mean, I can give you my number and you can go check with whoever you gotta check with and call me back. But do not leave me hanging on this. Please. I'm just -- please. See...this is the scene of the movie where you help me out."
MY GRANDMOTHER TRIED TO GO TO THE MOVIES YESTERDAY AND ACCIDENTALLY GOT CAUGHT UP IN THE CHICAGO GAY PRIDE PARADE AND SHE HAD THE TIME OF HER LIFE AND WANTS TO GO AS A FAMILY NEXT YEAR OH MY GOD
The ending of Warm Bodies (Spoilers).
Possibly my favorite Romeo/Juliet inspired story.
This is why I've started to not care about awards shows. This film. Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil... Ravenous. Amazing films in a somewhat out there genre are made all the time. Really loved this movie.
The National in the end is a great plus too.
Neil Young & Friends : Only Love Can Break Your Heart (Wembley Stadium London 14th August 1974)
A few days late on this 5th and final holiday song, but this one's truly beautiful.

Suddenly It's Christmas
by
Loudon Wainwright
Lyrics:
Suddenly it's Christmas, right after Halloweeen. Forget about Thanksgiving; It's just a buffet in between. There's lights and tinsel in the windows; They're stocking up the shelves; Santa's slaving at the North Pole In his sweatshop full of elves. There's got to be a build-up To the day that Christ was born: The halls are decked with pumpkins And the ears of Indian corn. Dragging through the falling leaves In a one-horse open sleigh, Suddenly it's Christmas, Seven weeks before the day. CHORUS: Suddenly it's Christmas, The longest holiday. When they say "Season's Greetings" They mean just what they say: It's a season, it's a marathon, Retail eternity. It's not over till it's over And you throw away the tree. Outside it's positively balmy, In the air nary a nip; Suddenly it's Christmas, Unbuttoned and unzipped. Yes, they're working overtime, Santa's little runts; Christmas comes but once a year And goes on for two months. Christmas carols in December And November, too; It's no wonder we're depressed When the whole thing is through. Finally it's January; Let's sing "Auld Lang Syne"; But here comes another heartache, Shaped like a Valentine. Suddenly it's Christmas, The longest holiday. The season is upon us; A pox, it won't go away. It's a season, it's a marathon, Retail eternity. It's not over till it's over And you throw away the tree. No, it's not over till it's over And you throw away the tree; It's still not over till it's over And you throw away the tree.
Christmas Card From A Hooker In Minneapolis
By
Tom Waits
Lyrics:
Hey Charlie I'm pregnant and living on the 9th street Right above a dirty bookstore off Euclid Avenue And I stopped takin' dope and I quit drinkin' whiskey And my old man plays the trombone works out at the track
He says that he loves me, though it's not his baby He says that he'll raise him up like he would his own son He gave me a ring that was worn by his mother He takes me out dancin' every Saturday night
Hey Charlie I think about you every time I pass a fillin' station Account of all the grease you used to wear in your hair Still have that record, little Anthony and The Imperials Someone stole my record player now how do you like that?
Hey Charlie I almost went crazy after Mario got busted I went back to Omaha to live with my folks Everyone I used to know was either dead or in prison So came back to Minneapolis this time I think I'm gonna stay
Hey Charlie I think I'm happy for the first time since my accident I wish I had all the money that we used to spend on dope Buy me a used car lot wouldn't sell any of 'em I'd just drive a different car every day, dependin' on how I feel
Hey Charlie for Chris sakes if you want to know the truth of it? I don't have a husband he don't play the trombone And I need to borrow money to pay this lawyer And Charlie, hey I'll be eligible for parole come Valentines day
Haven't tumbled in a long time... decided I would post my five favorite Christmas/Holiday songs over the next five days.
So here's the first one, in no particular order.
Cold White Christmas
by
Casiotone For The Painfully Alone
Lyrics:
cap & gown in purple & gold you're 22 years old & a woman now you're told Aunt Beth & Charlie cut a check for the graduating niece & you marked your independence with a signature on a lease but home was a photograph you taped to your wall it's gonna be a cold white Christmas in St Paul beer for breakfast who's gonna scold you've got your early hours dulled by the cigarettes you rolled second shift as a fry cook that's your holiday in grease & you trudge to work through the snow in a coat down to your knees & you linger at the twinkle lights as you pass by the mall & count the days to a cold white Christmas in St Paul feather down the nights get so cold & you ignore the smell of mold as you smooth out the folds when you're on your own you've got no one to please in a Minnesota city just as bare & as mean as the winter trees but you'll be damned if you're the one making collect calls on a cold white Christmas in St Paul yeah it's a cold white Christmas in St Paul
