SAINT LUCY Represents + New York Cares
Where You Belong
Where You Belong is SAINT LUCY Representsâ premiere pop-up gallery exhibition in collaboration with the charitable non-profit New York Cares. Curated by SAINT LUCY Creative Director Michelle Bablitz, the exhibition explores the concept of place identity within environmental psychology and how self-identity is tied to a sense of belonging within an environment.Â
Featuring a range of photographic works from the highly recognized artists Adam Birkan, Cody Bratt, Michael Clinard, Little Outdoor Giants and Anastasiia Sapon, the debut show presents imagery that depicts interdependence between place and subject or, in some cases, between place and the viewer. The relationship between self-identity and place is built upon both tangible and intangible features, encompassing everything from an affinity for the landscape to a personal set of memories, perceptions and experiences. The photography in Where You Belong explores these places of belonging, what they offer and how they have preserved the identity of others while being shaped by human interaction.
âWe as human beings subconsciously collect places that represent belonging and thus create hypothetical maps of our identities,â Bablitz says. âThe photographs in this exhibition combine these various places of importance from around the world to create a new map and place to belong.â
The pop-up exhibition creates a temporary environment to explore places of permanent but evolving significance. All proceeds will be donated to New York Cares, a charity and volunteer network that improves educational outcomes for students and adults, meets the immediate needs of the most vulnerable populations and revitalizes the cityâs public spaces.
The opening reception will take place on Friday, November 11, 2016 at Dove Cat Studio at 388 Broadway, Suite 2F in New York Cityâs TriBeCa from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Light food and drinks will be provided, as well as portrait sessions offered by featured artists Cody Bratt, Little Outdoor Giants and Anastasiia Sapon. The show will continue through Saturday, November 12 from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm. Read more about the show on the event page.

Cody Bratt for Photo LA Focus Photo LA 2016 & Berlin Art Fair
Congratulations to Cody Bratt on his acceptance into the Focus Photo LA Summer 2016 edition. Each year, 25 talented artists are selected to exhibit their work in both Photo LA and Berlin Art Week. Codyâs untitled image from his series Love We Leave Behind is a deserted western landscape with an eerie light that is one of several moments of pause within the work. Cody Bratt describes the process behind this image and others in Love We Leave Behind, stating,Â
âThe landscapes were made by traveling, day and night, through thousands of miles of seemingly unbound spaces in California, Nevada and Arizona.â
Photo LA is one of the largest and longest running fine art photography exhibitions on the west coast. It has served as a prestigious opportunity for talented photographers to showcase their work over the past 26 years. A panel of world-renowned art and photography experts judge the submissions, cultivating a selection of the best up-and-coming photographers from around the world. Each year, over 14,000 patrons attend the exhibition, providing the selected artists a unique environment to showcase their work. Â Codyâs untitled photo from Love We Leave Behind will be displayed at both Berlin Art Week from September 13-18, 2016 and Photo LA from January 12-15, 2017.
