Crater Lake, Oregon [OC] [1920x1544] - Author: Jay_Tunings
Spell Book Pages: Elemental Star, Hydro
Rank: B~A Teachable: Yes Casting Method: Verbal, Somatic (movement: drawing), Arcane Circle Description: One of seven "Elemental Star" style spells in Jayden's arsenal. They all follow a simple base: using elemental energy and a magic circle with a star pattern to fire off spells of various strengths and types. The strength of the spell is dictated by the number of points inside the magic circle, from 4-point to 7-point. It begins with a chant of the spells name following the design "[x]-Point Elemental Star: [element]!" Or for swift casts "[x] Point [element] Star!" A bit of a mouthful either way, but with the time and energy it takes to cast, it's effects are to measure worth it. One must also use their magical abilities to draw a star of equal points in the air, the circle will form around the 'drawing', and once complete the circle will vanish and re-appear where necessary to activate the spell's effects.
The Hydro Star has its origins in water and ice, and its spells hold to this. 4-Point: The circle stands before the caster and fires off a projectile of water; which can either be used as is, or frozen before firing as an icicle. The freezing aspect can also be used on standing water to make platforms or pillars. As a bonus, this secondary effect can be done without the whole verbal component, making it easy to use for puzzles or mundane use. 5-Point: The circle reappears above the caster in an area, and it begins to rain. The rain revitalizes allies over its duration, and debilitates fire attacks while putting out standing flames. 6-Point: The circle reappears on the ground in a large area, and either creates a whirlpool to drag foes into swirling, damaging rapids; or turns the water into steam and covers the area in a debilitating fog. The former of the two effects can be combined with the 4-point freezing, suddenly encasing a large area in a layer of ice and trapping foes in place. 7-Point: The circle keeps itself before its caster, then suddenly grows massive in size and half-sinks into the ground. It then glows brilliantly, before bellowing out a massive wave of stardust-laiden water. A "Cosmic Tsunami" would be an apt description.
Spell Book Page: Elemental Star, Geo
As the name implies, the Geo Star is focused around the element of Earth, and thus has a lot of focus on rocks and plants. 4-Point: The circle reappears underneath the caster and their allies before an earthy glow rises from it, empowering allies with stone-like defense. 5-Point: The circle continues to float in front of the caster, and lashes out with barbed vines. Alternatively, it can be cast directly from the users hand, and the vine can be grabbed, creating a whip for multiple purposes. The hand-whip can be cast without the need of drawing, but the verbal part is still necessary. 6-Point: The circle reappears underneath an area of hostiles, and suddenly bombards it with rising stalagmites and stones. An 'upward avalanche' if you will. This mirrors a spell learned in the land of Weyard, and its destructive force is on-par. 7-Point: The circle reappears high in the sky and significantly larger. It glows with great power for a moment before it lets loose a mass of rock that resembles a moon. When it collides with the earth, it erupts into a rain of energy and stone. The initial strike and raining debris damages enemies, while the wave of Geo energy heals allies and buffs their defensive stats further than the 4-point.

Spin up of a Supermassive Black Hole Illustration Credit: Robert Hurt, NASA/JPL-Caltech
Explanation: How fast can a black hole spin? If any object made of regular matter spins too fast â it breaks apart. But a black hole might not be able to break apart â and its maximum spin rate is really unknown. Theorists usually model rapidly rotating black holes with the Kerr solution to Einsteinâs General Theory of Relativity, which predicts several amazing and unusual things. Perhaps its most easily testable prediction, though, is that matter entering a maximally rotating black hole should be last seen orbiting at near the speed of light, as seen from far away. This prediction was tested by NASAâs NuSTAR and ESAâs XMM satellites by observing the supermassive black hole at the center of spiral galaxy NGC 1365. The near light-speed limit was confirmed by measuring the heating and spectral line broadening of nuclear emissions at the inner edge of the surrounding accretion disk. Pictured here is an artistâs illustration depicting an accretion disk of normal matter swirling around a black hole, with a jet emanating from the top. Since matter randomly falling into the black hole should not spin up a black hole this much, the NuSTAR and XMM measurements also validate the existence of the surrounding accretion disk.

Spell Book Page: Starpierce
Rank: S Teachable: No Casting Method: Varies Description: A torrent of raw mana funneled and directionalized by a layer of astral energy: This spell is capable of piercing just about anything and turning whatever it touches into stardust. The scale of this simple-but-highly-effective laser varies vastly; The beam can form needle-like shafts of short length to make precise cuts, to a laser so large it could consume the Earth's Sun several times over. It could be weakened to the point where it barely marks skin, or so powerful that it lives up to its name. A single shot? A volley? A cascading torrent of beam spam? All and more are possible. Heck he's even used it to make makeshift lightsabers when otherwise disarmed, which proves just as effective as shooting them en-mass. While most of these variants have different names and may be gone over in the future, the staple and signature "Starpierce" reigns as Jayden's go to basic offensive spell. It doesn't always require a sigil though one can be made, it doesn't always need a call-out though one can be done, and it doesn't even need a lot of attention or focus though he could give a single blast his all. Truly, its simplicity and elasticity of being "a beam, however one decides to beam" allows him to lean on it again and again as a dependable technique.

Spiral Galaxy NGC 2566 from Webb Image Credit: ESA/Webb, NASA & CSA, A. Leroy
Explanation: WhatââŹâ˘s happening in the center of spiral galaxy NGC 2566? First, the eight rays that appear to be coming out of the center in the featured infrared image are not real ââŹâ they are diffraction spikes caused by the mechanical structure of the Webb space telescope itself. The center of NGC 2566 is bright but not considered unusual, which means that it likely contains a supermassive black hole, although currently not very active. At only 76 million light years away, the light we see from NGC 2566 today left when dinosaurs roamed the Earth. The picturesque galaxy is close enough so that Earthly telescopes, including Webb and Hubble, can resolve the turbulent clouds of gas and dust where stars can form and so allows study of stellar evolution. NGC 2566, similar in size to our Milky Way Galaxy, is notable for its bright central bar and its prominent outer spiral arms.

//5, 6, 8, 19
5: Hill they would die on. // Jayden has STRONG beliefs about a good, loving family and will do anything to defend those he considers in that circle. Found Family is big for him and he won't take insulting them lightly. 8: Thing they own they cherish? They own but don't like and won't let go of? // One of their most prized possessions is an artifact called "Chain of Bonds". Despite the odd name I should workshop, basically its a chain link where each individual link resembles someone he's formed a positive relationship with. Colored links are extra important to him, people like family members or long-time mentors. As for an item he doesn't like, it's ironically his weapon: Lunula is a vividly beautiful scythe that can turn into other tools of battle, but who gave it to him and its purpose for battle means it's something he'd rather be without. Alas, adventuring is dangerous, and so he can't exactly toss away the item [especially after attuning to it] 19: How do they connect with those around them? // Food. "The quickest way to someone's heart is through their stomach" is one of those quotes that lives in Jay's head rent free as they say. He almost always opens his introductions with others with a bright smile, his name, and the offering of a treat. This continues into general care and comfort for others: offering food and a listening ear to anyone that needs it. While he might not always have the best things to say in return, sometimes all people need is to be heard.
//2, 6, and 14 for the Ask meme âT.
2: Roll in a friend group. // The Comfort Friend. Always has sweets and makes sure people are well fed and hydrated. Always willing to listen to the others. 6: Name Origin. // Jayden is technically a "gift" character due to shenanigans, so the name wasn't my idea ;w; but I do think it has a kind of soft tone to it, so it's fitting all the same. 14: How comfortable are they relying on others? What would change this level? // He's a very trusting person by default, so he's fairly willing to rely on others out the gate. Moreso if he's new to a world and is around others who are native, to help him get his footing. It does take quite a bit for him to be un-trusting of someone, which is probably more bad than good...

Young Star Cluster NGC 346 Science - NASA, ESA, CSA, Olivia C. Jones (UK ATC), Guido De Marchi (ESTEC), Margaret Meixner (USRA) Processing - Alyssa Pagan (STScI), Nolan Habel (USRA), Laura LenkiĂ⥠(USRA), Laurie E. U. Chu (NASA Ames)
Explanation: The most massive young star cluster in the Small Magellanic Cloud is NGC 346, embedded in our small satellite galaxyâs largest star forming region some 210,000 light-years distant. Of course the massive stars of NGC 346 are short lived, but very energetic. Their winds and radiation sculpt the edges of the regionâs dusty molecular cloud triggering star-formation within. The star forming region also appears to contain a large population of infant stars. A mere 3 to 5 million years old and not yet burning hydrogen in their cores, the infant stars are strewn about the embedded star cluster. This spectacular infrared view of NGC 346 is from the James Webb Space Telescopeâs NIRcam. Emission from atomic hydrogen ionized by the massive starsâ energetic radiation as well as molecular hydrogen and dust in the star-forming molecular cloud is detailed in pink and orange hues. Webbâs sharp image of the young star-forming region spans 240 light-years at the distance of the Small Magellanic Cloud.
