Phil deserves someone better because Dan is OBVIOUSLY too obsessed with hunting that famed great white whale in an old schooner on the Atlantic Ocean to be a good boyfriend.

He CLEARLY keeps ignoring Phil and leaving him to go on all these trips to seek vengeance on his eternal foe, that whale known as the pale leviathan of the deep.

Everyone can see that Dan so CRUELLY insults Phil because of his misdirected anger for the scourge of the Pequod. And poor Phil- the doomed Pip of the story, inevitably fated to madness in his abandonment with only an ant for a friend, lost in a sea of fabrics dyed moldy green.

Dan is obviously driven mad by his quest for vengeance on that old harpoon breaker, and proves himself incapable of being a good partner lest he capitulate his ruthless vendetta, which he’ll never do, for the depth of his hatred against that gliding aquatic avalanche runs too deep. 😔
