Coffee Shops

The coffee shops we visit or visited during our trips, we always have a latte, the rest is up how we feel.

Cinnamon-Ripple Coffee Cake Muffins are quick and a great coffee companion. The base is a buttermilk muffin with the cinnamon swirls. It’s almost the basic mix the dry and mix the wet ingredients, but the extra cinnamon ripple is sprinkled and folded in before baking.

Popover Bistro and Bakery in Simsbury, CT has amazing freshly baked items, a huge selection of breakfast items, a lot of them on their signature popovers. They also have decent coffee, great drink, so it’s a nice place, if you can get a table. They seemed busy every time we went, but the wait was only a couple of minutes for us, so not too bad.

RaonJena coffee, dessert and plant shop. In a modern building, with plants arts and plenty of seating the Asian style coffee has great espresso drinks, rice bowls, sandwiches and desserts. You can have Sakura lattes, crepe cakes, flavored striped croissants among other special treats.

Coffeetera in San Juan Puerto Rico. In the middle of a beach neighborhood, it a small gem with excellent coffee and food. The wall painting decor is very tasteful and talented. The pancake stack is giant, fluffy and buttermilk based, but not too sweet. The stuffed avocado is a must to try. There are also a selection of mimosas.

Perkatory coffee roasters in Hartford, CT. It’s in a nice area with food trucks, fun outdoor tables. The building hosts a bar too, all like a summer festival wibe. Coffee is super smooth, espresso drinks are great both cold or warm. The sparkly lemonade is very refreshing.

The loaded goat in Naugatuck, CT. It’s a short stop on the 8. Cute bare wood design, goaty merchandise and armchairs, indoor outdoor fireplaces. Plenty of special lattes, pastries and simple sandwiches. Great lattes. The whole street was in bloom today. Spring is here!

Dom’s coffee in Avon, CT. Excellent espresso drink in a very fancy designed cup showing the local area in a drawing. The shop also serves pastries, sandwiches and cool local beverages. It also has a special cheese and ham shop. There are several small rooms with tables to hang out. All in all a great place.

The Upper Bend in Turner Falls, MA worth the stop. If you are in the area to see the bend or sinkholes, the pastries and coffee is great. They also offer soup and grilled cheese sandwich. A relative new place opened just before Covid, but luckily survived the hard times. They have great window seats, cookbooks.

The Grind House in Bangor, Maine is a cute place with nice murals on the wall. The Cinnamon apple chai was excellent, the latte ok, the Maine Breeze blueberry soda a bit on the sweet side. The triple berry muffin was very nice, light and not too sweet.

The Goddess and the Baker in downtown Chicago. Nice green design everywhere, the cakes and bites look amazing. Latte was good, the special iced matcha was nice, but for me the wild honey kept sinking to the bottom and as I forgot to stir, I ended up with a very sweet bottom.

Adezzo in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Really in style with the close by Steamtown. All kind of all things up cycled to use and decoration. Like Singer sewing machines for tables. Latte is ok, a bit acidic. The cakes were good, especially the raspberry crumb cake, and the onion cheese scone. Visited March 2020

Rio coffee brewery in Avon Lake, Ohio. Drive through and sit down place. The latte was good. They offer sandwiches, breakfast items, paninis, teas and smoothies. They have a big stack of board games in the corner, a huge plus. Take away drinks came in a patterned styrofoam cup. We will probably return if in the area again.
