As a native speaker of English I don't put much effort into thinking of what I have to say before I say it. As I do this in other languages i'm learning and figuring out how to conjugate verbs; i'm starting to question if there is any conjugation at all in the English language. Now the answer could be in front of my eyes and i'm just not seeing. However i'm not noticing any actual conjugation method. So getting to my question is there no conjugation in English and if so why and if there is how?
There are some fragments left. Most noticeably these are the -s in third person singular (walk > walks, sing > sings etc.), the past tense in {-(e)d} (walked) and the participle in {-ing} (walking). That English indeed used to be an inflecting language can also be seen in its strong (”irregular”) verbs: sing > sang > sung etc.
There is only one verb left where you can see a little more conjugation outside third person singular: to be: am, are, is, are ...
