Three-quarters of flying insects in nature reserves across Germany have vanished in 25 years, with serious implications for all life on Earth, scientists say
Some possible precipitating factors are already in place. How the West reacts to them will determine the world’s future.

This isn’t the violent overthrow envisaged by Marx and Engels. In The Communist Manifesto, they argued that capitalism’s “gravediggers” would be the proletariat. Nearly 170 years later, Streeck is predicting that the capitalists will be their own gravediggers, through having destroyed the workers and the dissidents they needed to maintain the system. What comes next is not some better replacement but is more akin to the centuries-long rotting away of the Roman empire.
Harsh noise soundtrack for the last days of capitalism.

A scientific model has suggested that society will collapse in less than three decades due to catastrophic food shortages if policies do not change.
"We ran the model forward to the year 2040, along a business-as-usual trajectory based on ‘do-nothing’ trends — that is, without any feedback loops that would change the underlying trend. "The results show that based on plausible climate trends, and a total failure to change course, the global food supply system would face catastrophic losses, and an unprecedented epidemic of food riots. "In this scenario, global society essentially collapses as food production falls permanently short of consumption."
Scientists, scholars, policymakers, defense strategists, risk analysts and experts in nearly every field have been organizing themselves around the issue of looming catastrophe. In this spirit, let’s take a clear-headed look at the nuclear, chemical, biological, and ecological perils that might befall us in the not-too-distant future.

The Revolution will not be Centralized
How will life be after capitalism? A new system of networked cooperating prosumers is slowly being born. But of course the old system could yet take us with it in its death.
