Cograch, he/him, queer, freelanced artist trying to get the correct footing in life. I also practice witchcraft as well, will be talking about how I go about my spells occasionally.

Currently writing a philosophical/historical book to witchcraft and how it has evolved to he what it is today. Inevitably I touch upon new age spirituality, but I feel like I wrote out a pretty banger paragraph during this topic.

"Most of new age spirituality is founded in the west, and the western philosophy is capitalist. "What can I take in a way that allows me to reciprocate as little as I can?" We have been slowly losing the sanctity, sacredness, and reverence of magic, nature, and ourselves. Not that our practice has to be wholly formal all the time, that's unrealistic for many people. But magic has become a tool to be utilized and then discarded, spirituality has become currency, while fancy labels and expensive tools have become status symbols."

I'm not saying to completely ignore what witches say within the community. I'm not saying that the books are 110% right and everything else is wrong. All I'm saying is that before you do your fun stuff like making jars or wards you have to LEARN. You can learn shit and build off of it from engaging with the community afterwards and not hear as many blind or misguided takes when you gain this knowledge. Literally the most powerful thing in spellwork is knowledge I'm being so for real it's even stronger than protection spells if I'm being honest here

on another note I do feel like a lot of people talk about ancestral veneration within digital witch spaces and it makes me a bit saddened somewhat. yeah yeah I get having shit relatives and what not but the thing is you can. also do veneration if you have a found/adopted family. Like if you consider your best friends family to be your own and they also consider it to be so. you can do that. and personally to me the practice of learning and getting in touch with the people who watch over you is a great way to build confidence and address any issues within your mind but I digress. It's one of the best ways to build self love and to be more cognitively aware of you and your environment. plus sometimes if you really do it right they might put 200 dollars into your wallet
