White lies, half-truths, flattery, bluffs, you name it. Lying is part of her trade, and she feels less and little from telling them. A common thief hailing from the city of Dolos, Cifera was born with golden blood, a sign of divinity. With some hesitancy, she was recruited into the flame-chase and even went as far as to inherit the coreflame of a titan, its very life essence. Beneath her cunning exterior, Cifera, quite literally, holds the fate of the world in her hands. How, you may ask? By telling the biggest lie of all time.

"More than ten nights have passed, and I'm still here.. I've been unable to contact Headmistress or anyone else this entire time. I truly am stuck here, aren't I..? I don't have time for this.." Though Melinoë once believed this entire situation to be a mere obstacle for her to overcome, slowly the princess was beginning to realize it was going to be much more than just that.

"Why the rush to return home, princess? If ya ask me, this city's a pretty sweet deal. Free housing, an allowance, and plenty of suckers to chea--I mean meet!"

"Relax, live a little! Enjoy your time. Not like the world's ending or anything. Think of it like a free vacation." She's certainly overselling it, but who could call her on it?

"Asking for candy? It'd be much more fun to steal it. Seems like this city could use some better ideas on how to make their holiday more exciting. Though I guess teaching kids to steal wouldn't exactly go over well, would it..."

"Whatever. If you ask me, it's a valuable life skill!"

"So, what's trick-or-treating exactly? Do I have to give a treat? I'm thinking tricks are way more fun."

"Are we going to start killing each other or do I have to get everything started around here?" It's a joke!!

"Whoa, kids these days sure don't know when to lighten up on the dark humor! Not very cute and innocent of you."

❍ Castorice's expression when Cipher yelped was complicated. I had probably been a little bit surprising that Castorice of all people had just reached out and grabbed her like that, but it was a little bit dejecting to see her react that way. Maybe she was just being a little too sensitive about it because it was all still pretty new to her.

When she withdrew her hand, she stared down it for a moment. Cipher would slip away if she was distracted for too long. Her question was more relevant and so she addressed that first. "Ever since I arrived here, my curse hasn't been functioning. Honestly, I hope a day doesn't come where it does. But it's still a strange feeling for me, so I apologize if I did something wrong..."

"But Lady Cipher... You always speak like that. Doublespeak to deter others from prying as a self-defense mechanism. Surely there's nothing about our current circumstances that you need to hide from me, so can we not just speak candidly like two people normally would? I promise I won't pry into your affairs back home."

Thankfully for Castorice, Cipher's not going anywhere anytime soon, even if she wanted to. Both the shock and the questions she has about the situation outweigh the need for instant flight. "Curse not functioning...? Huh," Ah, so that must explain why her powers aren't working, too. That's...troublesome.

And worrying.

She'd definitely need to take that into consideration for future ventures. At least she'd been able to test it out on someone who wouldn't send her packing.

Castorice calls her out, but she brushes it off with ease by turning the conversation back on her. "Hey, since when are you an expert on all things Cipher? More importantly, you can finally touch people! That's gotta feel weird. You used to it yet? Or still feel scared about sending someone to the afterlife like you almost just did to me?"

"You ever heard of ligma?"

"Nah, not getting me with that one. Nice try though! Must work almost every time. Got any other jokes?"

❍ Castorice had never been particularly good at telling when Cipher was skulking about with the target placed on her back. She could only assume that she was very easy to pickpocket based on how many times the trickster had gotten away with it, surely because she'd had no reason to learn how to defend herself from thieves. No normal person could risk missing and coming into close contact with her, not when they didn't even need to make physical contact to trigger her curse.

"Stop, Lady Cipher." But on this occasion, Cipher didn't disappear in an instant. She likely couldn't, and that meant that even with her paltry reflexes she was still able to grab the woman. Firmly, but with enough gentleness that the cat could slip out if she wanted to.

"I do not know how long you've been here, but I do know that there's no reason for you to go into hiding in this city. It would be much too sad to see you isolate yourself once more." She didn't fully understand why she even did it back in Amphoreus, but she assumed it was related to the prophecy.

It surprises Cipher, too, that she isn't able to jet off in an instant. But more importantly, even as she feels the warmth of Castorice's hand grace the back of her hood and she's still alive afterward, is also shocking to her. "Mrreow--!?" comes her startled yelp at the sudden contact afterward. That's not how this was supposed to go, nor is it usually how it went! She stays put, mostly from the shock of it all, and she's quick to answer Castorice in turn, "You call it isolation, I call it willful quarantine. There's nothing wrong with wanting a little peace and quiet for myself, y'know!"

But much more importantly... "Since when can you touch people without instantly sending them to pay a visit to Thanatos?!"

"Used to be that you could strum up a decent sob story and get a nice payout, now people have a whole system of dedicated bots doing the scamming. Too convoluted, we should go back to the basics."

"Gotta say, this is pretty impressive!" she says, holding up a bowl that was, seemingly, perfectly crafted to serve its purpose. Upon applying a little pressure, though, one would find that it was made entirely of chocolate! Pretty sturdy chocolate, but still chocolate all the same. "Perfect way to break your teeth, though, if you aren't careful." With a room full of objects just ripe for eating or a trip to the dentist, it was a hard gamble.

"So, whatcha gonna do? You a betting man? Let's make a little wager: if the next thing you bite into is candy, I'll give you ten dust. If it isn't, then you give me that ten dust."

"Oh, hey, Little Prince! Fancy meeting you here--" she says, promptly shoving an armful of different fruits into his arms. Never mind the fact that he seemed to be admiring a pomegranate tree for one reason or another, because they're soon interrupted by a disgruntled orchard worker moments later. Cipher takes that as her cue to hide behind him, tail swishing as they demanded payment for everything she had just attempted to steal.

"He's paying for me!" she says, confident as ever, before turning her gaze up to Mydei. "You're paying for me, right? We're here together!"

"Paired up with yet another brooding pretty boy, eh? I've just gotta be the luckiest girl in the world," Though she says that, it's clear from the sarcasm practically dripping from her tone that she doesn't mean it. Well, whatever. Cipher isn't shy about pulling him along, nose upturned as she does her best to in attempting to sniff out their prize: a mnemos flower. Unfortunately for him, though, the only thing she's managed to get them is lost.

"Well, that's great. Looks like the ole' finder is off its game," she says, finally letting go of his hand to place her hands on her hips. "Say, those head wings don't happen to have some sorta special ability that could help us out, do they?"

"So all we have to do is let this little fella do most of the work, right?" She'd only half been paying attention to the rules of the game, but she got the cliffnotes. The teacup pig tucked under her arm snorts, sniffing the air, and Cipher turns in the direction it looks. Seemed easy enough, pretty painless, and by the end of it, she'd have a pretty decent prize if everything went according to plan!

The only thing that kind of sucked was being placed in a pair, but maybe they could strike a deal of sorts. "Tell ya what," she starts, back still turned to her partner as either of them walked. "You let me keep the dust, and you get a nice little IOU from me to use for later."

"Hey, Gray Mystery! You just gonna stand around, or are you gonna help me?" Equipped with a squeaky hammer and sheer determination, Cipher carefully begins to scan the room of the painting gallery, eyes peeled for any sudden movement. This wouldn't be easy, but she was assured that the prize would be worth it. "You have questions and I want a prize! Both of us can win something if we work together, maybe." No promises on Cipher's behalf, but she really wanted to win, and if Stelle could assist, then that's all the better.

"Oh, it's you, Deliverer boy." With that serious expression on his face, he looks at her as if he's seen a ghost. Like he's going to say something and entirely ruin the mood, but Cipher doesn't let him. "Listen, save whatever's bothering you. We can hash that out later." What's more important is the task at hand, which involved the two pixies in front of them spitting instructions on how to help with cleaning their humble little homes. And most important, the treasure that was sure to be filling either of them. Once they're left alone, she sighs.

"If you really insist on looking at me like a kicked puppy, you could help me find treasure. I just know pixies have a thing or two! Probably something we could sell or trade off..."
