Tetrana Entry 25: Expanding on Skratkana
Welcome back! Wasting no time, lets get into our next country: Skratkana, A land dedicated to the waste heaps of mechanisms set to no longer operate. Robbed of their Arcanacite, they’re dumped here to oxidize, and be appraised by the denizens that reside within its metallic heaps, all praising the high lord of technology.
Date of founding: 592ᚹ(Wunjo)/14ᛗ(Mannaz)
Founded through a declaration by Proclomate Aanara Bouhroh
Closest Cultural equivalent to IRL: Slavic regions (what a surprise)
Climate: Being one of the more northern countries, Skratkana is consistently cold throughout the year, only being barely warm enough for the lakes and rivers to melt, during the dead of summer. It snows and rains frequently, but the sun still shines.
Natural resources: Lots of natural minerals within the ground, which have, previously, been used for mining operations.
Natural hazards: The land is made a bit treacherous with the leftover bits of scrap, which can create terrain that is difficult to travel.
Urban vs rural distribution: Pretty much the entire area is rural, with homes being few and far between.
Population & Demographics
Total population: Roughly 600,000
Population density: Very low
Major ethnic groups: (Pre-Collapse) Human, Bovidae, Dwarves, Ornith
Minority groups: (Pre-Collapse) Fae, Dragosi
Type of government: Theocracy
Date current system was established: 592ᚹ/14ᛗ
Head of government: High Priestess Doris "Cylstka's Hooves" Gorvishna
Relationship between church/religion and state: The nation is brought together by a unified belief in the end goal of Cylstka's construction.
Military size: Medium-Large
Typical equipment: Large reliance on Arcanacite, even after the collapse.
Defensive structures: Any invasions are typically delat with through reliance on guerilla tactics, making use of the heaps of scrapped technology around.
Attitude of civilians toward the military: Basically made of self-conscripted, militant civilians who fight for the name of Cylstka.
Economic system: Mainly bartering, with Arcanacite runes used as secondary currency.
Currency: Universally, low level Arcanacite runes. (Only used when conflicts with bartering arise)
Major industries: Providing space for decommissioned machines.
Major exports: Metals, Minerals, Arcanacite, lumber.
Major imports: Scrap, provisions, textiles.
Trade partners: Nearby northern nations.
Wealth distribution: Equal, apart from the many tithes granted to the church.
Black market presence: Many have no issue constructing and smuggling sketchy technology without the higher-ups' knowledge
Average standard of living: Medium to low quality, being a newer nation, and taking refuge in a land of thrown away items.
Infrastructure & Technology
Transportation methods: Roads, sleds, occasional Arcana
Road quality: Not very well established, even when not blanketed with snow.
Ports: Not many at all, the waters being interrupted with icy chunks usually.
Communication systems: Arcanacite is most often used, as well as occasionally communicating via letter.
Level of technology: Very reliant, and innovative in fields of Arcanacite, and its devices. Fun fact, Skratkana invented the nano-rune.
Common dress: Dressed for the cold, only shedding layers in the warmest months.
Food staples: Salted meats such as fish, hard tack bread, kept in dry areas when possible.
Meal customs: Lots of prayer before beginning the meal. (It lets it cool down a bit too)
Housing styles: Mostly shelters built upon the deposited scraps around, in many cases reinforced to insolate from the cold.
Family structure: Quite rigid
Gender roles: Little to no difference in perception.
Religion, Philosophy & Beliefs
Major religions: Cylstakin (99%), Other (1%)
To explain Cylstakin: Motivated by the advancements of technology, many believe in the soul that resides within all machinery collectively. And at worlds end, all knowledge and soul will converge into one, perfect, metallic vessel. A machine so great it pierces the skies and beyond, fueled by a perpetual engine. Cylstka, The Machine God. They believe that to exist is to create, and that the most noble act of creation, is to aid in the construction of this 'Last Machine'. Continue research, conceptualize, and put it together with metal and magic!
Sacred texts or oral traditions: Religious discourse often revolves around what Cylstka would be, at all.
Religious buildings: Many churches cobbled together all throughout, and an alter to the machine god, within many of the homes.
Taboos: Failing to honor the soul of the machine.
Pre-founding history: Religious diffusion of Cylstakin, caused many believers to converge in an area of low temperature, in order to more optimally work with Arcana as a collective unit.
Founding events: Holy Chuch of Cylstka was established, along with Skratkana
Major wars: An attempted Copran Purification was made against the nation, but didnt end up working out, due to Skratkana's tactics, and advanced technology.
Revolutions or coups: The Gnossian revolution against Skratkana has left the nation worse for wear.
Nobility or elite groups: The Holy Parliament of Wido Zaragamba, Sinaht Venlamin, Ricaussa Taiki, and Skix Pebblecut
Social mobility: Difficult to enter the Holy collective.
Slavery or indentured labor: Not present in Skratkana.
Allies: Despite differing ways of life, Hila is willing to aid, despite their "inferior technology".
Rivals / enemies: No active conflicts, other than the historical tension from Coprana.
Reputation abroad: "A bunch of weirdoes who probably sleep with their runes, but, credit where its due, Nano-runes are pretty significant!"
Conflicts (If I write a novel/run a campaign here)
External threats: Copran loyalists who seek to continue the purification against the nation, snow storms, etc.
Economic crises: Arcanacite being depleted post-collapse could become an issue.
Rebellions or resistance groups: Likely not present in Skratkana's own population.
