Hi!! Two questions: A. will you be running this again this year? And B. I'm new to this fandom, and I've been considering running a monthlong rarepair event for both platonic and romantic ships for ships that have under 10 fics (or more, haven't decided yet), but I found out about this event and that it's been consistent yearly and didn't want to overstep! Would there be any interest in collaboration to make the week a monthlong event? If not, would it be alright to have two different rarepair events? Again, didn't want to overstep, so I wanted to double check first! Hope this alright to ask. Thank you!

Hey there, our last run was 2023 and we aren't planning a 2025 one at the moment. if you DM me (@areyougonnabe) off anon, I'm happy to help coordinate a handoff — although the fandom got so big since our first event that our most recent cutoff was 100 fics for a Terror rarepair, 10 might be a stretch!

if the tag already exists on ao3 but it's empty and I write something for it does it count as "being the first"? or does the title permanently belong to a mysterious fic that doesn't exist anymore and I need to cope and accept that I'm writing sloppy seconds after somebody and modestly file it under the "under 10" category

(additionally, if the ship is present in some fics but is untagged, does it count as being the first if I'm only the first to tag it?)

Hi! Being the first to put something in the tag is all it takes!!!!! If there's an existing tag but it's empty, that's probably because it was requested or offered for an exchange but nobody wrote for it. (Although if you're logged out, log in and check again just in case it's an archive-locked fic!)

COLD BOYS KINK MEME PRESENTS: RARE PAIR WEEK 2023

Celebrating the Terror & general polar ships which need more love, this fest will run from April 21-27 in three parts:

For the first 3 days of the fest (April 21, 22, 23) all ships with under 100 fics in their pairing tag on AO3 are eligible.

For the next 3 days (April 24, 25, 26) you've got to work a little harder and find a ship with under 10 tagged fics.

And for the final day of the fest, a.k.a Be The First day, you've got to INVENT A WHOLE NEW SHIP TAG!

FAQ:

Does it need to specifically be a pair? If the ship tag has less than the eligible # of fics in it, you're welcome to use it, even if it includes 3 or more characters!

What if the ship I picked for Be The First day gets a new fic during the fest week before I post mine? Or one of my <10 pairings goes over 10? Consider the cutoff to be the day before the fest starts (April 20). If the numbers change that week, as long as they were eligible beforehand, you're fine.

What if the ship I picked for Be The First day has a fill up on the kink meme already, but it's not on AO3? Then it doesn't count! We're just going off AO3 for eligibility.

Are there prompts this year? None for the event itself, BUT since we are affiliated this year with the Cold Boys Kink Meme, we encourage you to peruse the bounteous pages of prompts to find something that inspires you for the fest!

What's the word count minimum? None! Be free!!!!!

Can I do art? If so, where do I post it? You are absolutely encouraged to do art for the fest! You can post it on AO3 as its own work, and/or on Tumblr or Twitter using the hashtag #CBRP23.

Are you affiliated with last year's Terror rarepair event? Yep, consider this a direct continuation of TRPW22 and 21.

I did some amateur research into Inuit names so everyone pictured would have one. It’s not my culture, so I’m bound to have made some errors. I hope that the good of having more attention paid to these folks will outweigh them, but I’m open to constructive feedback.

Koveyook relaxed in a folding chair across from Akeewok, who was named for his namesake’s younger sister and wore implausibly clean cream sweatpants. They were two hours into the post-lunch lull and had lapsed into companionable silence. Visitors at this hour came mostly for sugary snacks, which their truck did not offer.

Up inside the truck, young Naai was slicing ingredients under the watchful eyes of Ane and Ugjuq, who were named for an aunt and nephew but often bickered like siblings. Ugjuq had the talent for business, and Ane was a passionate chef; between the two of them, the truck had been bound to succeed.

Kalaaq stood up from where he’d been leaning against the side of the truck, “resting his eyes” behind his sunglasses. Ugjuq called him father; his namesake had lived to a ripe old age, as Kalaaq was fond of reminding anyone who tried his patience. Kalaaq was not especially fond of strangers who tried his patience, but that was where Koveyook’s strengths came in.

Koveyook rose to greet the newcomer with a welcoming smile.
