Mason took a few moments to glance away from the woman. His gaze dropped back to the open books and papers and scrolls littering the table and floor. He shrugged casually. “It’s nothing that a distraction wouldn’t welcome.” The shop was mostly a hobby to him, something to do. He had no need for the capital it generated. He left all the income for Andy’s security.
He gave Dea a pleasant smile and pulled himself away to approach her.
“As I recall, you have a tendency to avoid simple conversation and socialization. Is there a particular reason for this visit?” His bright gaze looked her over. “You look well.”
Her smile widens ever so slightly, feeling glad that she isn’t a hindrance to whatever it is that he currently working on. After a moment, she lets her posture relax ever so slightly, feeling the tension in her shoulders from her own uncertainty melt away. Good manners were something she tried to be in strict accordance with, and dropping in so unannounced or uninvited like this put her nerves on edge. She glances down for a moment, composing herself again.
“I do, as a general rule. You are quite correct. However, I found myself missing your company. Even if I’m accustomed to isolation, I fear that I have isolated myself far too much as of late.”
Her eyes soften as he tells her she looks well, however. “Do I look well? I’m glad to hear that. You look well too. I hope that you haven’t had too many mishaps lately? I know that your life tends to be filled with misfortunes and strife more than most.”

Tor thought about what he would do when he got back to his place. It was 3 A.M. since he’d just finished his shift, so there wouldn’t be much on TV. He probably had some stuff on the DVR he could watch, and there was always netflix and illegal downloading, but tonight felt more like a video game kinda night. Maybe he’d check out the new FNAF, or replay Half-Life or something.
He slowed to a stop, the hairs on the back of his neck standing on end. He felt as if someone was watching him. Someone who had Death on them. He swallowed the last bite of burrito and looked around. His senses weren’t very good, but if there was one thing he could sense, and sense well, it was Death and beings related to it.
Her eyes narrow and she steps closer to the being, being very cautious, and ready to have her sword in hand in case things escalated. She doesn’t run, nor draw any attention to herself. After all, it wouldn’t due to draw the attention of any of the mortals nearby. It would be best to wait until he was on his own. With this late hour, it would be within another few city streets.
Her footfall is light on the pavement under her feet. She crosses the street, pulling her gray jacket closer, and makes eye contact with the strange man, letting her pale blue eyes linger on his for a moment before she speaks. Her voice is soft and low, yet there is the distinct undercurrent of power in it. The tone, however, is cordial, almost as though she is inviting him out for a cup of afternoon tea.
“I need to speak with you in private. Would you mind?”
After all, if there is a lingering spirit here, it is within her responsibilities to take it to the other side, or in special cases, take the spirit back to their body. Most wouldn’t remember it, which is for the best. Anyone caught in the crossfire of the invisible wars waged between demonic and celestial entities were best forgotten. If mortals knew the truth, it could destroy their entire world. It’s best to not remember.

Tor walked out of the Chipotle with his bag of shitty mexican fast food, and pulled out one of the burritos to eat on his way home. It was probably a good thing his sense of taste was dulled by the Death Magic flowing through him, what with all the crap take out food he ate. He should probably learn how to cook, but given that he ended up with a pot full of flaming spaghetti whenever he tried to boil pasta, he was probably a lot cause.
Dea walks alongside a riverbank, thinking over the last spirit she helped to the other side, only moments before. The spirit had been that of a young child, who had died of a rare form of cancer. No matter how many times she saw this kind of death, it still makes her own heart feel heavy. So much potential, just eaten away by a monster which lived inside their own body.
However, oddly enough, most children who died under these circumstances reacted to the transition between life and death better than adults. Most of the children were more willing to be led into the afterlife, more trust, perhaps, or maybe children understood certain aspects of life better than adults at times. They still have the child-like wonder which allows them to imagine marvelous and fantastic things, a trait which many adults unfortunately seem to abandon in favor of being ‘realistic’.
A sudden surge of strange energy catches her attention, pulling her from her thoughts, and her glacial blue eyes scan the lamplit streets around her. She senses in the back of her mind that there’s someone nearby that shouldn’t be lingering here, and doesn’t belong in this world. After a moment, she pinpoints the source, and turns around to see a very tall young man with long dark hair walking down the street. What’s even more bizarre about the situation is that he’s eating some sort of fast food.
For a moment, all she can do is stare, trying to figure out what exactly he is, since he’s not a vampire, or a zombie; nor is he a spirit of some sort. Whatever the case may be, she will definitely be approaching this man with caution, and, if possible, take him back to where he belongs.
There were certain advantages in having Andy run the Magic Box. She dealt with the customers, placed the orders, kept the stock filled, and helped with the spellwork. The one disadvantage? She despised paperwork.
Though the magic shop was operated mostly by the witch, Mason still had a hand in it. His part was dealing with the inventory and the paperwork. He sorted through the books, barely glancing up when he heard the bell above the door signal the arrival of another customer.
Then he caught her scent.
He paused, lifting his head to stare at her. It had been a long time since they’d spoken. Still, a small smile touched his lips.
“Dea. This is a pleasant surprise.”
Relief floods her mind, and she’s glad that he’s happy to see her. She’s never been the sort of being to do things wantonly like this. It’s better to have sme forethought before doing things. Particularly when it comes to visits, because she really would rather not inconvenience anyone. She herself isn’t too fond of unexpected visitors, yet here she is.
“Is it? Good. I’m glad that it is. I do hope I’m not interrupting anything important?”
The winter goddess indicates to the books he’s currently looking at with a small gesture of her hand as she speaks.
Dea has never run a shop, so she isn’t certain what all it entails other than keeping things organized, stocked, and keeping track of money. At least that’s what she has observed in her many years on this planet. It's one of the many endless curiosities that humans provided to observe. Even after being alive for a few millennia, and thought that she had learned so many things about them, she still found so many things that shocked her, surprised her, and occasionally impressed her about human beings.

As the weather starts to warm up in the northlands, Dea finds herself retreating South, oddly enough, instead of farther North as she would customarily do during this time of year.
Perhaps it’s because the last few months, she’s isolated herself far more than normal because she’s been wrestling with strange emotions she hasn’t felt in many centuries, and she is aching for a familiar face to help her make sense of things. She really doesn’t care for the whirlwind of emotions she’s found herself ensnared in as of late. Isolation suits her much better because this way, she just has her thoughts. Emotions complicate matters and make her job much more difficult as a rule. Not to mention, her having any strong emotions is very irresponsible, on her part. Anything which could possibly compromise rational thoughts and her ability to control herself is unwise in her position. Considering what has happened in the past when she’s lost control. She could never risk that again. It’s unthinkable.
Hence why she finds herself back in Sunnydale, of all places, seeking out one of the only people in this world who actually makes proper sense. Well, at the very least, Mason is someone who doesn’t make her want to tear her hair out and constantly ask him what he’s doing and why. It feels like it’s been ages since she’s had the luxury of being around people who actually think things through before acting.
Soon enough, however, she finds herself walking briskly into the Magic Box, and a small smile curls at the corners of her lips at the sight of her very dear friend.
“Good evening, Mason. It’s been quite some time.”
Her confusion was bittersweet, being both amusing and disconcerting in its magnitude. Then came the pat, and he knew that there was hope for progress. Her question made his lips curve into a sly smile as he pulled back from her.
"Come on now, you should know me well enough to know the answer is both.”
He crossed his arms lightly as he looked her up and down, nodding with approval. “You look good, though I guess that shouldn’t really be surprising.” His smile widened into a grin as his eyes focused on hers. “Aren’t you gonna tell me how much you missed me too?”
"I might have figured."
Her amused smile widens momentarily, before her lips settle into a softer expression. Normally, Dea feels it's better not to show her emotions lest her enemies take advantage of any weaknesses, so her expression is most often devoid of any emotion that could be analyzed. However, considering that Gideon could be considered a friend, there isn't much harm in revealing some of her emotions in this situation. Besides, truth be told, she is rather fond of the man, even if he is rather bizarre and baffling the majority of the time. It’s one of his many charms, she supposes.
"I have missed you. I would have assumed you realized that however."
She crosses her arms across her chest as well, meeting his eyes as she speaks before relaxing her posture a little bit, trying to grow accustomed to interacting with people again. It’s been quite a few months since she’s been anywhere remotely close to people, and being in civilization again is strange, to say the least. She feels like she should try looking less on edge. Perhaps that might help her feel more relaxed?
"How have you been faring?"

As soon as he noticed her approach, a wide smile quickly spread across Gideon’s face. He closed what little was left of the gap between them and hazard giving her a brief hug. He didn’t pull back too far when it was over, glancing her up and down.
"Well aren’t you a sight for sore eyes. Long time no see, Ice Queen. I’ve been missing the chill you always send up my spine."
A small smile graces her lips for a moment as he smiles widely, but is soon replaced with a absolute confusion when he reaches out to hug her. She furrows her brow lightly, her arms awkwardly at her sides and her body stiff, clearly unused to having people hug her. After a moment, she gently pats his back, the light smile returning, though she still seems slightly uncomfortable with the intimate gesture.
"Is that meant to be sarcasm or a compliment?"
There is the hint of amusement in her tone as she raises an eyebrow at him. She would ask why he hugged her, but she learned a while back to stop questioning why Gideon does what he does, and had come to terms with the fact that he would most likely never make any proper sense to her. She supposes that it's just one of his many unusual charms, because there are so many things in the world that do make sense, but to run into something that doesn't? Now there's a novelty.
