"Torse nu dans les nuages" (circa 1937)
Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller photographed at the opening of his play, A View from the Bridge which premiered on October 11th, 1956 in London, England. The New York Daily News headlined their report with “Marilyn Steals Show In Which She Isn’t”. She wore a red velvet fishtail dress with platform heels. Nearly thirty policemen were needed to help holds fans back. It wasn’t just some of the press members who thought her dress choice was inappropriate, but many of those around her disagreed with her choice of wardrobe as well. Amy Greene said, “There was no question of what was appropriate. Beatrice [Dawson] said black. I said black… But Marilyn said red.” In that same interview with Redbook magazine, Arthur Miller said, “Why should someone like Marilyn pretended to be dressing like somebody’s old aunt?”
