Where do you work? Because I can just relax there. I don’t have to get up and do all of that touristy stuff, I can just… you know, be there. I think it’d be nice to die somewhere like Fiji.Â
I work in a grocery store. How are you ever gonna know what it's like to do the exciting things like jump from high up into the water in a place you haven't been before?
Do you like, have a job right now? I mean you must, with school and… well, you’re living somewhere. I think I’ve done enough traveling for my young age, my school was all about that stuff. Maybe when I’m old and falling apart I’ll go where I haven’t before.

Yeah. I just need to know when I can get the money I can go to uni, ya know? I met a lot of people, it was really great. I recommend everyone should do it at some point in their life
Geez, and you had the money to just up and leave at 18? Did you stay at like, youth hostels when you settled in a new place?
Yeah, I told my parents I wasn't planning on going to uni, so they let me take the money for it. No, I usually just stayed at cheap motels.
How old were you when you left?
I was 18.
It was fun, Geneva is beautiful. And I’m multi-lingual because of it, which is pretty cool. Your parents don’t know you’ve settled? Like, you haven’t told them where you are? They’re okay with you just traveling around without any word of where you’re going?
I only know English, I was never good at other languages in school. Well I'm 20 years old. When I told them I was leaving, which I did after I left, they just said for me to be safe and call when I can.
Are you more of a city guy, then? Like, did you travel out to London a lot? I mean, it’s cool. For a school that has the word “American” in its name, only like, 12% of the kids are actually American. I got to meet a lot of great people, though, and since you’re there for six years and there’s only 300 odd students, you kind of know everybody’s business. Most boarding schools are like that, actually. Aw, that’s cute! Do you go back to visit them a lot, or do they ever come out here?
No, it's just when you start to know everyone for 17 years you just want a bit of change. I did travel to London a bit, it gets a bit boring after a while. That sounds like a lot of fun, that makes me really jealous of you. I just got to meet a ton of assholes. I haven't seen them since I was about 18. I had decided I wanted to travel the world. I just recently settled down here, so I think I'll let them know and they could come out here. I miss them loads.
Ah, so you’re from down South then, huh? Do you miss it? Yeah, I was born in Connecticut, but since I spent so much of my time, like, abroad, it doesn’t really have an impact on me, being so far.
Yeah. I don't really miss the place itself, the town I lived in was too quite for my own liking, but I do miss my family. I always envied the people who studied abroad, my parents didn't ever want to sent me anywhere to do it, they said they would miss me too much.
If it makes you feel better in the long run, though, I guess it’s worth the temporary mortification. So the people at your school were just bitches, huh? Where are you from?Â

I think that kind of seems like you’re putting yourself through pain and humiliation doing that. I mean, I wouldn’t think to go back to someone else’s 9th grade statuses. Happens to the best of us, people are shitty in high school. Or, so I’ve heard. My school only had, like, 300 or so kids and it was in Switzerland, so… I’m sure it’s much, much different wherever you’re from.

I don't know why I do it to myself. No one should ever have to go through this kind of pain. There were a ton more people at my school. We were on the same side of the world, probably only a couple of hours away.

Luckily for me, literally no one who knew me from 8th to 12th grade will I run into here, so my really embarrassing stories get to stay buried. Hm, you’re being awfully negative, aren’t you? And don’t say it’s realism, that’s just an excuse that pessimistic people use because they don’t like being called pessimistic. I think it’s kind of cool, being able to look back and see how annoying I was a few years ago. It’s always good to make fun of yourself a little bit, anyway.
I start getting moody late at night, that's all. I just start over thinking and being a bit rude to myself, I dunno. I hate looking back at past me. So every few years I go through and clean out the horrible Facebook statuses, just so that no one is gonna be able to go and make fun of me. 8th to 12th grade were some dark times. Actually 12th wasn't that bad, it was a great year. But the other ones were just, I don't like to think about them.
Emo poetry, huh? I get it. The life of a seventh grader is so hard. It’s tough being twelve. Might be, hopefully not. These are the years of liberation and freedom, might as well make the best of it while you can. Or, you know, freedom in the sense of the little time you get free between courses and work.
Well, you're always gonna look back on your life and just think of how annoying you were and how glad you are that you changed. And it would probably be that way until you die. And also now that technology is a big part of everyones lives, our whole lives are basically going to be documented. You can't get away from the cringe-worthy stuff you've done in the past anymore
Maybe you’re just a hard critic, if you find that most hyped things don’t live up to their reps. i can relate to that, we all had that phase, though I left it behind in middle school. I actually completely forgot about the obligatory scene kid phase until you just mentioned it.
Listening to music from that time brings me to this dark place I've actually come to enjoy, which is scary. My scene phase was horrible, I hate looking back at any pictures during that time or any kind of writing I had done. I wonder if I'll be saying that about this point in my life in a few years.
Yep! I like designing, enough, yeah, but I’m looking for into, like, the styling side of it. You know, the person who picks out outfits for photoshoots, or helps celebrities with what they wear at events. If you’re ever in need of a stylist, I’m your gal, though I’ll keep you in mind for when I do make my own things. I think they’re cool, they’re great to listen to while driving. Wow, really? I’ve never hear of anyone do something like that before, that’s pretty interesting. What’s your “dark” music?
I hope you do keep me in mind, I'm a person that should be kept in everyone's mind. Like they're music is okay, I just don't find that it lives up to all the hype, just like most books and movies and sometimes shows. I guess I'm just odd, I dunno. My dark music is basically me just channeling my 7th grade emo phase.
You don’t have to “get” anything from it. Who cares what other people think? Obviously, there’s limitations to things like “do what you love and fuck the rest,” because, if someone loved killing people, well, that’s not to be encouraged. But, like, I don’t know. I don’t think my dad is all too happy about me going for a fashion degree after forking over a bunch of money for my education, but it’s what I love. It makes me happy, I’m good at it, and even if I’m not satisfied 100% of the time, it’s still worth it. Uh, people love sad indie records. The 1975 are so popular right now. You base what you listen to on what you’re wearing?
Oh, you're going into fashion? I could totally model anything you make, any clothing. I'm a great model, I'm awesome at posing for a camera. The 1975 isn't really that great though, I don't like the way they sound, too fast for me. Yeah, if I'm wearing a bangin outfit I'm gonna go for a different type of music from when I'm just sitting at home in my pajamas. If my outfit gets ruined or I just forgot how to dress myself, my music is really dark. It's just something I've always done.
Some people are just really, really messed up. I mean, you could attribute some to social or mental disabilities or disorders, but — there are those who are just mean. If it’s something you like to do, then it’s not lame. Everyone’s got hobbies that might seem that way to someone else, but if you enjoy it, that’s all that matters, really. I bet you’d be a good DJ if you tried it, if you like making background music.
I just hate the fact that people go out of their way to make someone feel like shit. How is that better for you? You feel good about yourself for a hot minute, but after that what do you get from it? I wouldn't be a good DJ, unless people like to hear sad indie records, that's all i listen to, and a bit of pop here and there, depends on my mood, or my outfit.
Other people’s pain is another person’s pleasure. It’s a cruel, cruel world. The Emotional Hunger Games, if you will. Just killing people’s spirits, all that fun stuff. What a nice conversation we’re having. That doesn’t sound lame! Do you like to sing, too? Are you a songwriter?
I don't understand how people find that pleasurable. Unless they murdered your whole family and had you lose a limb, I don't think there's a real reason to want to hurt someone emotionally. It's super lame. I don't wanna turn out being the boy who writes bubblegum pop music. I sing a little, but it's really just for myself to hear, I wouldn't record it or anything. I don't write lyrics, just the background music.
