Roselee Goldberg (late response 12/15)
I actually couldn’t access this pdf but I read this instead, https://www.interviewmagazine.com/art/roselee-goldberg, I hope this is a suitable substitute. I think it’s interesting how she grew up dancing, this could be the culprit for her eventually beginning performance art. She a writer and the founder of the New York performance art Biennial called performa. She talks about how she wants to rewrite the art history canon with performance art and she’s certainly doing this since performance art is a new art from that will surely be practiced for centuries to come. She talks about how people are still asking what performance art is and that people don’t see it enough to feel comfortable with it. I definitely can relate to that because I wasn’t comfortable with it when I first started viewing it either.
The Artist is Present Response (late response)
I am pretty impressed with how impactful performance art can be. I’ve really been oblivious to this form of art and anytime I’ve watched it in the past I thought of how incredibly insane and meaningless it seemed. This medium is definitely not meaningless but Marina Abramovic’s work is certainly insane. I love how confrontational her and Ulay’s work is and I think that having the artist present emphasizes this concept. I really think that their work is moving and the insanity adds to the excitement and entertainment of it while giving it a serious edge and much depth. I never thought that I’d appreciate performance art but I can say that this documentary and section really helped me to do this. These people have truly tortured themselves too which makes it all the more impressive.
ARTIST STATEMENT: THE ARTIST IS PRESENT
I actually wanted to go with a narrative less heavy and disturbing than the one I went with but I simply didn’t have the time to organize time and communicate with ceramics faculty. I think that I made my message clear in this work and I don’t want to give too much away, even this may be too much, but it’s alluding to mental illness’ in general. We’ve all had our really crappy times when we feel like we’re loosing our minds and I’m surprisingly not in this state of mind though it’s finals week. Though I wanted to do something lighter, these pieces can cause a catharsis and also a connection with others who share these experiences; there’s nothing to be ashamed of, these experiences are common, especially amongst college students. I had to redo some editing because the original go messed up and I actually liked the cuts I made more in that one but I have what I have. I also probably would have done a little bit more with the soundtrack as well though it’s already pretty layered. I actually wanted a different track by Pink Floyd but forgot the name of it and couldn’t find it on the album I thought it was on, so I used ‘Set the controls for the heart of the sun’. I wish I could have spent more time on this piece and I do really enjoy editing video and I’d like to see myself work more with this medium in the future.

Net Neutrality
CONGRATULATIONS, everybody! We only have 10 days to fight the FCC & the repeal of #NetNeutrality!
Thanks to John Oliver there’s a SUPER easy way to do this Do you enjoy Netflix? Do you find yourself spending too much time on FB? If net neutrality goes away, our Internet bills go up and we give power to companies like Comcast and Spectrum.
Here’s what you can do - takes less than a minute: 1. Go to gofccyourself.com (the shortcut John Oliver made to the hard-to-find FCC comment page) 2. Click on the 17-108 link (Restoring Internet Freedom) 2. Click on “express” 3. Be sure to hit “ENTER” after you put in your name & info so it registers. 4. In the comment section write, “I strongly support net neutrality backed by Title 2 oversight of ISPs.” 5. Click to submit, done. - Make sure you hit submit at the end! **Feel free to share this**
I know i just reblogged this but it literally took me 1 minute to fill out, actually less. Please do this if you want to continue blogging on this hellsite for free or use any other website (Netflix, YouTube, Twitter etc.)
ARTIST STATEMENT PROJECT 4
I wanted this video to make the viewer feel disturbed; I feel kind of disturbed watching it. I tried to convey this feeling by creating an audio mix that sounds disjointed and restless. This video doesn’t have anything going on with light which I know was a requirement but I honestly thought that this video was due the next class. I also didn’t use many transitions or video layers, at least not as much as the exercise. I actually think that the exercise I did was better than this project and I think that I spent more time on it as well. This is what I have and I think that it’s okay, but I could have spent much more time on this project.

No matter how many times you try, it’s difficult to stay positive, even around the people you love. It’s even harder to believe the good things others say about you to you when you’re treating yourself like sh*t. The only people we can believe during these bouts of sadness and heartache are those who are also withering the storm. So if it’s difficult for you to get through your day or even shower or get out of bed, we want you to know that you’re not alone. Please read these quotes, they will make you a better person than you were even two minutes ago. *Check back every Saturday for new quotes.
