Final Piece
I had a chat with my teacher and the textiles teacher and we decided that i wont up-cycle a final garment. We decided that my samples work well enough on their own and so i don’t need to create something for the fashion show.
we're not kids anymore.

Final Piece
I had a chat with my teacher and the textiles teacher and we decided that i wont up-cycle a final garment. We decided that my samples work well enough on their own and so i don’t need to create something for the fashion show.
Wood Samples
This wood sample didn’t work as well as the last. It looks really rough and unplanned, i think this is because i didn’t use as many layers. I used blue ink first, then two layers of foil. The foil worked great the first time but the second didn’t stick to all of the glue.
Wood Samples
This sample came out amazingly well. I used black foil over bare wood. The foil didn’t stick everywhere though, i think this was because my screen had started to get clogged up. I then screen printed using the blue binder which worked super well on the wood. The ink sat on the top of the wood and made a subtle texture. Finally i foiled. The foil stuck to the first layer of foil a little but because they’re the same colour foil it’s subtle.
Large Samples
This was another sample on black cotton. I like using the black cotton because it makes the blue binder stand out really well.
This time the flock stuck to the foil but not as much as in the last sample. This might be because the black flock is a different type of flock.
I like the this sample a lot. It’s really busy and the idea of machinery comes across. It also reminds me of blue prints.
I can imagine this being on a large cushion.
Large Samples
This was a sample i did on a piece of black cotton. I foiled in black then printed in blue then flocked in white. Unfortunately the flock stuck to all the foil and made a big white square in the center of the sample.
Flock Samples
I tried dying my own flock using proceon dyes. I used two types of blue and a black. I like the slightly transparent effect this technique creates.
I love using flock on fabric, i think it creates a really nice, subtle texture that is really tactile.
Vinyl Samples
These are more vinyl samples that i didn't put flock on. I like the combination of the slightly mirrored surface of the vinyl and the metallic foil.
Vinyl Samples
I tried foiling, then flocking onto black vinyl. However, the flock stuck to all of the foil and covered the whole sample. I tried to save this by sandblasting away some of the flock to reveal the foil. Instead the flock came away with the foil. The sand blaster did create a cool textured surface though.
Metal Samples
I tried screen printing onto steel off cuts. This was a really good surface for the ink and flocking works really well on it too. This was a great surface in terms of the project theme, it relates directly to the surface of a motorbike.
Screen Print Binder
This was the piece of fabric i used whilst trying to get the right blue colour. I wanted to use this colour because it’s the colour that they used to paint the original Triumph Tiger Cubs.
Sample
I experimented with the blue binder on calico, jersey and satin acetate. I think i prefer cotton, it’s sturdier and takes the colour better.
Sample
I tried overlaying blue and red ink to create a 3D effect, like i did in the juxtaposition project.
I like how this looks however i don’t think it links with the project very well, i need more mechanical colours.
Screen print Sample 3
Silver metallic binder on satin acetate with blue opaque ink.
Screen print sample 1
Black foil on black cotton over layed with blue ink. This is definitely my favorite way of creating shine. The gloss just looked wet, this is more of the metallic look i wanted.
Screen print Sample 2
Black gloss binder on black cotton over layed with blue opaque ink.
New Screen
This is the design i created from a small section of one of my drawings. I quickly cut a section out and put it through Photoshop and repeated it.
I like how busy this design is, i think it will work really well with the more simplistic screens.
Screens
I put my two favorite designs onto screens, i’m planning on making another one because i think two layers is too little.
