Reflection (for class)
12 steps for an effective blog:
1. Define the purpose. The creator needs a clear understanding of who the blog will address, what goals it is meant to achieve, and how its impact will be measured.
2. Set a reliable schedule. Blogging at least twice a week is optimal, though any schedule can work as long Instead of viewing your story or content as a static and pristine object owned by your site, think of it as a social object that can be taken, retold, and shared by others.
3. Mix it up. For variety, a blog should include posts that differ in length, seriousness, and timeliness.
4. Move beyond the written word. Blogs are more interesting when they include graphics, photos, videos, and other embedded elements.
5. Size matters. Posts should be long enough to cover essential points, but short enough to be readable.
6. Learn how to write killer headlines. The headline is the most important part of a post, because it piques people’s curiosity and encourages them to read on.
7. Design is important. Free blogging templates offer a good starting point for a design that is appealing and includes elements like an archive and social sharing icons.
8. Create momentum. Simply posting content is not enough. Blogs should also include relevant calls to action.
9. Consider comment moderation. Various settings and plug-ins are available to help block spam and place a hold on questionable comments.
10. Categorize and tag everything. Categories and tags allow readers to access multiple posts on similar topics, and also help search engines find specific content.
11. Write the way you speak. Effective blogs are conversational and friendly.
12. Don’t overthink. Blogs should not come across as the last word on a subject. Instead, they should leave room for readers to add their voices and opinions.
I definitely follow all of these. I definitely write the way that I would tell the story in person and I do not overthink what I am going to write. I just write how I feel. I put tags on all of my blog posts so when people search, they could stumble upon my blog. I feel as though my design suits me (obnoxious) but is not too overwhelming. I also include pictures and videos into posts. I try not to write too much that it would bore people, but not too little that they do not get the whole story.
Summerfest 2014
(These aren't the greatest quality videos, but bear with me... I was shooting them on my iPhone.)
Somehow I managed to make it to Summerfest on June 26, 2014. This was one of the GREATEST concerts I have ever been to. A family friend won tickets to the Lady Gaga show and her hubby did not want to sit through the show, so they gave me the extra ticket. I was excited to see, though, that Pentatonix was also playing on the grounds, but at a completely different section of the grounds, and at the same time as the Gaga show.
I was heartbroken.
I have loved Pentatonix from the start and keep falling in love with every new video they post. (if you do not know who they are, I recommend looking them up!) In the end though, we skipped the finale of the Gaga show to catch most of the Pentatonix show. I was content with the decision because I saw the majority of both shows.
I'm still a little bitter that I was not able to meet them though. That would have been amazing.
Thinking about the past...
I was looking at my timehop last week and it brought back some of the greatest memories I have. These are just SOME of the pictures that I have from the Freaks and Geeks Tour 2014 (stolen from my instagram).
Three days, three states, three best friends living up one of their final teenage years. At this time last year I didn't have a job, I barely had responsibilities... The only thing I had was my college classes, but other than that all of my spare time I spent doing things like this.
A year later, looking back at these pictures... I'm reflecting on how much more simple everything was. Jobs didn't get in the way of having a social life, there was more time to actually spend with friends... Now I'm trying to figure out how I have already lost my youth and I am only going to be 20 this year! Being a grown up sucks!
Ruined plans
I suppose I should start off by saying that I am 100% addicted to concerts.
This being said, I have many emotions (mostly negative) about work this week. There's a concert that I have been DYING to go to on Thursday (3/5) and of course I can't go because my manager decided to give me a second shift that day. I mean, I am all for working and taking the hours, but I normally work third shift so this kind of sucks.
I really shouldn't care about this concert because I have seen him before (Aaron Carter... bringing back my childhood!) but I just can't help but be upset. Especially because it is not too expensive to actually go to the show. $18 is a very good price for a show, seeing as I have paid $200 for a single concert ticket before.
Oh well, I guess I just have to look at it this way: if I don't work, I won't have money for other concerts.
First Blog Post!
This blog will be dedicated to music, concerts, and the overall crazy life that I, as a college student, have to deal with everyday.
Some of this might end up being my personal therapy sessions talking about how stressed I am, or how I wish I wasn't as busy as I am (but I love being super busy, tbh).
I apologize in advance though, because as much as I would love to post on a regular basis, it probably will not happen.
