The Novo | Los Angeles, CA | 05.28.16
The Used just wrapped up their two day stop in Los Angeles, and we got an all access experience and caught their emotion packed show front and center. After 15 years, this band has still got the “it” factor.
With speeches, conversation, and interactions with the crowd in between each song, not to mention the extremely passionate performance, The Used is definitely a band to put on your bucket list of concerts to see before you die.
The show started out with copious amounts of energy and adrenaline, and the crowd was absolutely nuts. They opened with the song “Take It Away”, which had the audience screaming and pushing the barricade before the intro even finished. Bert McCracken, the frontman of The Used, used each opportunity he had to connect with his fans and tell them stories about each song and about his life. He continuously thanked everyone for coming out and supporting them for the past 15 years of their career.
McCracken jumped and ran around stage with boundless energy and a constant smile on his face; he absolutely could not get enough of the crowd, and the crowd definitely couldn’t get enough of The Used. As the night went on, things slowed down with a couple of acoustic jams like “Yesterday’s Feelings” and “Hard To Say”, but quickly picked up again with a full band accompany of “Lunacy Fringe”.
They ended their set with the song “I’m A Fake”, the crowd chanting the entirety of the intro while McCracken held his mic out to them with the widest of grins on his face.
Of course, as with most shows, the audience demanded more after the lights went down and the band had exited the stage, but leave it up to The Used to never disappoint. The guys regathered on the stage for the final time of the night to perform the song “Pretty Handsome Awkward”, and ended the song with Bert sprawling out on the stage, and pushing the entire drum kit off the riser.
This was definitely a show of a lifetime and if you missed it, you definitely missed out. If The Used is coming to your city, I highly suggest catching their set because it is beyond worth it even for people who aren’t fans (yet).
They’re such a humble group of people who are so very passionate about their fans and what they do. Each performance and every line of every song is jammed packed full of raw emotion, you can’t help but have an amazing and unforgettable time.
