By the way, the websites are wrong, Peathers Veronica is not wearing the Coach Cityscape 1941 jacket as is, the embroidery was either removed or there was a version without it. Couldn't find one so it was probably modded for the show!

Okay so my search for the Peathers blue bag/rucksack has narrowed down to 2016, likely from Topshop or Forever 21 (brands used in the pilot) but nothing more. It's fairly plain, light to solid blue, greyish insides, no black leather, only the main opening, opens through a hidden silver magnet thingy, the little thread that ties it together is flat at the bottom. It is best seen in episode 8.
Getting a bit desperate but luckily I don't have a FB account to ask the shopyourtv group. So. Not that desperate yet.
so fun fact i was watching heathers and i noticed veronica had this painting pinned to her desk
after some research i discovered its The Shrine by John Waterhouse
Despite many of Waterhouse’s paintings depicting of Greek and other women of antiquity (Ophelia, Cleopatra, Miranda, and so on) this woman isn’t anyone specific. An ordinary woman. I think it’s interesting that Veronica picked this painting of Waterhouse’s, a woman leaning over to literally stop and smell the flowers on a shrine.
I can’t exactly bullshit a meaning out of it but I was interested so I thought others might be too. Veronica Sawyer facts.
Alright so! Since y’all like this post (!!) I decided to think a little harder about why Ronnie may have picked this painting.
Some background! The Shrine was painted in the late 1800s during a period of “genre painting”. Genre painting, much like its later successor impressionism, emphasized the every day. Ordinary, usually working class women, most often in the home doing domestic tasks. More often than not this meant sewing, cleaning, or taking care of children. You know. “Women’s work.” Particularly gendered activities.
But anyway. Let’s get into the specifics of The Shrine. An ordinary woman, taking a moment out of her day to lean over and smell some flowers, flowers belonging on some sort of religious shrine. A non-spectacular moment for a non-spectacular woman. The woman, who I will refer to now as Ordinary Woman or OW, is not decked out in heavy ornamentation or jewelry (as was common in renaissance engagement portraits and the like). I don’t know enough about fashion history to say if her dress is contemporaneous with Waterhouse’s time period, but it looks more medieval. OW also, in contrast to many genre paintings, isn’t doing anything particularly engendered. No sewing, no children nearby. She does have her skirt bunched up in her fist. She is leaning over to quite literally smell the flowers.
Smelling the flowers. This is a moment of agency, a moment where she is actively engaged with her surroundings, independent of any other influences. OW, coming across the shrine in her family’s garden and thinking, oh yeah, those flowers look nice, I’ll give them a sniff. Ordinary, right? But important.
So, a decently well-off woman, with no visible tethers to “normal” womanhood or domesticity, showing agency? Sounds like someone else I know.
Veronica Sawyer.
Now, Veronica probably saw the Waterhouse and liked it for its respectful representation of a woman in a private moment. It’s got a nice color scheme. Anyone could look at it and see herself smelling the flowers. But let’s look a little deeper.
I’m gonna come back to the flowers again. Specifically, the red flowers. A bright, notice-me color. In Heathers, color means everything. Red is Heather Chandler, her scrunchie, her power. Red for anger. Red for blood.
Veronica is in high school, a pretty transitional time. There are expectations for her, as a young woman. She’s got to meet the right man. She’s got to put out. But she isn’t here for that— even has a speech prepared when her date goes sour on her. Ronnie’s pretty independent. She’d probably like seeing a woman in a painting, fully clothed, doing something that in no way relates or references men.
Still, she’s gone through a lot of changes in the past few years. Taken a walk through all parts of the garden, if you will. The biggest being joining the Heathers. It wasn’t really… something she really pined after, not the way Martha Dunnstock or Betty Finn might’ve. It came naturally, just another part of her garden walk. Like OW, she saw red — the flowers, the scrunchie — and said “hey, this looks like a good idea. I can do this.” And sure. These girls (the flowers) represent something big and even unattainable (popularity. freedom. a shrine. a god.) and sure, they are beautiful. Veronica (and OW) can lean down and appreciate them for a while.
But you know… This moment of worship won’t last forever. The flowers will wilt, eventually, and Veronica will move on with her day. Ultimately, The Shrine captures a nice moment. But it is only one moment in Veronica’s garden.

top ten homophobic heathers characters 🏳️🌈❌
all of them
heathers is one of the most homophobic movies ever, yet has one of the gayest fanbases ever.
heathers (1989) is not homophobic. it is mocking homophobia. the creators of the film were very shocked when their film was featured (negatively) as a b roll shot in the celluloid closet (1995).
the film didn't resonate with gay audiences for no reason.
Cook them.
I'd also add that J.D., one of the antagonists, makes homophobic comments. Veronica, whose arc is to grow out of her apathetic and cruel perfect girl self is the one denouncing a homophobic stereotype (paraphrasing: "come on, mineral water's come a long way"). While she does help with a homophobic revenge plan, we have to note that she is not immune to being raised in a small town in Ohio and is fighting back against her oppressors. Said plan leads to a denunciation of homophobia: the jocks' fathers declare their love for their sons despite being gay while J.D. makes a quip about them only being accepting because the jocks are dead. The movie's main antagonist is the one weaponizing homophobia, with its protagonist, meant to be villainous but less malicious, calls part of it out. They are both in the wrong for this.
The commentary is very obvious: homophobia is wrong but is only ever addressed when teens kill themselves over it. Their plight only matters when they die. Had they lived, they would have been mercilessly bullied and harassed. Nobody would have ever challenged their prejudice. The movie is furthermore huge on the hypocrisy of the world when one commits suicide. The regret about their homophobia only comes because the jocks were popular and made Westerburgh's football team win. No one would have changed their tune, no one would have reflected on it, had it been less popular teenagers. Heathers encompasses all reasons for suicide in its commentary with notably those who die because of homophobia. The world's lack of compassion is a huge thing in its themes!
On top of that, Veronica snickers at J.D.'s joke about the jocks. That laugh gets one of the boys' younger sister to turn around to stare at her, cheeks smeared with tears. Veronica's smile dies instantly, leaving only a mortified expression behind. That is when Veronica learns about kindness. The entire plan must be understood as wrong in this moment. Making fun of the homophobia some do face, using it for her own gain, is wrong. Later in the movie, MacNamara, during an anonymous phone call to a radio show, talks about being hurt and confused that Ram would "sleep with her" despite being gay. The timeline has it happen in the span of two days at most. Said hooking up is not consensual. It is very obviously rape, she is fighting back, the jocks are known rapists in a story partly about men preying on women. Waters commentates on rape culture but also homophobia through MacNamara's confusion: Veronica and J.D.'s homophobic plan hurt more people than they thought it would. It is unambiguously evil and cruel. Though the movie never delves into homophobia directly nor how it impacts queer characters, it does take the time to condone it and showcase the harm it can cause to non-queer folks.
Waters set Heathers in a conservative town. Homphobia is to be expected. But it is never, ever, condoned. Could it have been explored more? Probably. But it wasn't the main topic so it took the furthest seat. To claim that Heathers is "one of the most homophobic movies ever", even as a hyperbole, is quite ignorant of the much, much worse movies that have been made before and after its release. It's frankly tame, only depicting the reality of its time without ever forgiving it. Depicting homophobia does not immediately make a piece of media homophobic. Not digging into its in and outs and deconstructing it thoroughly does not make it homophobic either.
The wardrobe for Peathers' pilot was likely bought in 2016, maybe 2015 at the earliest. One of Veronica's dresses is from Topshop's 2016 Fall-Winter collection. Haven't found that cute bag yet but some that look really similar are also from Topshop. Wondering if she does wear some brand stuff or if they spent that part of their budget on the Heathers (for example MacNamara wears Puma, Nike, and a specific pair of shoes that is a collaboration with Beyonce iirc). It would be a crime if she did because most of her pilot looks are the ugliest thing I've ever had to see
A few thoughts about Peathers to be posted soon...... Not much but I think and think......
The UK production of Heathers the Musical is participating in a Kid's week thing where children UNDER 17 can go for free. What are we doing?? The sex number??? The graphic rape attempt that they purposefully made worse and more explicit?? These are children-appropriate?? Their own teen edition had to rewrite Dead Girl Walking but for some reason children can go watch adults pretend to have sex on stage?
I'm not a prude. But Heathers is a show for at least 16 y.o and older. Don't advertise it with musicals for children. I don't care if fans are younger. It is the adults' responsibility to target appropriate audiences and try to foster said audience. Your own show, and its original movie, was about the adults' failure to protect their kids. Heathers should not be in the same lineup as Paddington.
Veronica stating how she "must STOP HEATHER" in-between scenes of Chandler getting assaulted and being disgusted by herself is soooo underrated. Despite her current despise, Veronica sees Chandler's self-destruction. She knows that path won't end well. Her also knowing that she is the only one able to do so is tragic. She is far too aware of how useless and careless the adults are and that she cannot trust any of them. The college students won't have Chandler's best interests in mind either. Veronica is pissed at Chandler but that part of her writing is about her empathy and dislike of societal expectations
Everyone feels the urge to make Veronica's former friend (be it Martha or Betty) pink when the movie had Betty be a dull gray color that made her blend into the background
Addendum: Though Betty does have a bright pink bag and a very light pink sweater in the cafeteria scene, the color on her is so muted it has a more cream feel to it. The bag only appears for a few seconds. Martha is the one noticeably pink!

Currently begging someone on Instagram saying their grandma cast the extras for Heathers and therefore has the original script to leak it. Probably gonna get rejected or a virus. If I disappear, know that I have tried
If any of you Heathers movie fans ever needed a better look at Chandler's brooch...
There ya' go. Go crazy. Do with this knowledge what you'd like.
Hunted the thing down on a whim and found a good pic of it online.
And yes, this is what the thing actually looks like. I'm not making an educated guess. I've added comparison photos, so you know I'm not talkin' out my ass. You can even see the words on it in the first pic below, if you squint.
I don't know if it is common knowledge that this is what her brooch looks like up close or not. I've never seen anybody talk about it.
The motto engraved on it even has an article on Wikipedia. Have fun! -> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honi_soit_qui_mal_y_pense
Oh, and one more thing... for any aspiring cosplayers out there, I was able to find this brooch for sale on Ebay (it appears there were multiple made) for fairly cheap. Just something to keep in mind.
Whoever on here who said that movie Veronica's blazer might be by Claudia Graü is right btw. They're one of a kind but you can find some listings for similar blazers, including a grey one with the same fabric!
one of my friends made peathers!chandler on tomodachi life and said i could share it!!
