Drum Major: Guard, you have to do this too. You are also part of the band. Guard: OH WE ARE?

Hey guys!
Sorry, I really haven’t posted in a while...but I’m going to work on posting more! Also, I was thinking about maybe posting a few things not necessarily colorguard related...but we’ll see! Thanks for sticking around! With me not doing winter guard, I should have more time to post.
We’re on our way to 10,000 followers, so maybe once I hit that, I’ll have a give away, which would be super fun! So tell your friends to follow (;

My old high school is having problems with funding their marching band and colorguard, and since it’s in an inner city the school doesn’t care too much about the arts to try and save it themselves. So we’re looking for help! Please donate if you can! Or share!
What are the basic things that I need for color guard? Like equipment?
Most things should be provided by your school or group...but start with flag. That’s a must know! Them once you know the basics you can move on to rifle or sabre. Don’t forget a positive attitude, as cheesy as that sounds.
Before color guard: "I've never been hurt a day in my life."
After color guard: "Pain is all I know."
Hey so two people in my high school guard did DCI last summer (one was in troopers and one in genesis) as I was wanting to try doing it this summer. Any suggestions as to which I should try out for when it comes around?
Watch a bunch of dci performances to see which fits the style you want to do and are best at (like Phantomettes are more dance based, etc.). Make sure to go to their clinics!! Ask those two in your guard to help you prepare for auditions, as well. For example, on my college guard we have a guy who marched Madison Scouts and Santa Clara and he writes a bunch of choreo for us to do. Troopers and Genesis are good for beginners into dci.
Hey, I'm joining color guard next year. Any tips on how to survive?
Start stretching and working on dance basics now. That will help make you less sore later on. Also start getting yourself used to physical activity, if you aren’t already. Make sure to use sunscreen and drink lots of water and gatorade when the time comes around!
I'm moving this summer to a new place to start high school and I really want to do guard! When does camp usually start and is there anything I should work on now? Thanks :)
Most schools have tryouts towards the end of the year and then start summer band like two thirds of the way into summer (at least around where I live...other places may be different). Start stretching now and working on dance basics! Also getting yourself used to physical activity in the heat, like jogging, will help. Don’t over do it and hurt yourself, though!
do you know if any of the major marching bands have like any weight limits or anything? I know some colleges do.
I’ve never heard of any college marching bands having a weight limit...but I’m sure that dci groups don’t. As long as you are able to do everything, it shouldn’t be an issue!
talking to people about colorguard
person: what sport are you in? :-)
me: im in colorguard
person: what is colorguard? arent you in band?
me: we spin flags and various weapons like rifle and saber and often spin while simultaneously having to dance and retain ballet skills alongside performance skills and remembering our drill spots!! and technically we are a part of the band unit, but we don't play music or anything like that. often times we just call ourselves band members just to save time with teachers and whatnot.
