Big giant list - The Rise of Phoenixes Making of/BTS videos

There’s a whole ton! But … most of them aren’t subtitled (yet?). If you want to see happy cute actors to wash away the pain, here you go:

- Playlist of 1-2 min fun shorts, mostly understandable even without subs, of the actors goofing around. Makes me think that the big smiles from the “you’re so ugly” and hugs in a field scenes were actually them really laughing, so cute.

10-15 min features on almost everything below, in order of interestingness to me…

- THE COSTUMES 😍😍😍😍

- THE EPIC SETS. Features prince residences and brief showing of the loom.

- The flood setup and underwater (and only 😭) kiss. Those beautiful scale models with the working lanterns!

- Analysis of Tailor Prince Ning Yi’s character motivations, with actor Chen Kun and others. Very dramatic and actorly music.

These two behind the scene vids is amazing. You get so much of Chen Kun’s thoughts on Ning Yi, and all the careful details when it comes to Ning Yi’s movements and actions. Oh my fucking god, this is amazing.

I love the acting!!! The AMAZING ACTING! I can watch behind the scene footage of Chen Kun acting all day long. I also love how Chen Kun has these detailed conversations with the actors and the directors constantly. So good.

I’ve done some Twitter threads on this topic, so thought it might be nice to do a Tumblr post too. One of my pet peeves is when people act like adult fantasy (or sci-fi for that matter) is just a straight white dude thing and that diversity only exists in young adult fantasy. That’s such a disservice to all the authors of marginalized identities currently writing adult fantasy!
