something people don’t appreciate enough is the fact that different songs on midnights explore the same topics in numerous, sometimes contradictory ways. on snow on the beach, she’s scared that a new relationship might not work out; on labyrinth, she’s terrified that it might. snow on the beach also talks about the celestial forces that bring two people together; mastermind confesses that she was the force in question all along. bejeweled describes the confidence and freedom of bending the rules of a relationship; high infidelity is filled with guilt and terror for simply dancing with another guy. she takes the money on you’re on your own, kid, but she feels stifled by it on anti-hero. she ends you’re on your own, kid with inspiring words; on dear reader, she warns the audience not to listen to her advice. she burns in hell on anti-hero, but karma is her god on karma. she can face any struggle fame throws at her on you’re on your own, kid, but she’s too soft for all of it on sweet nothing. she’s a diamond and a monster on the hill at the same time. it’s almost like each story is told from multiple perspectives like the love triangle on folklore, but instead of several fictional characters, the narrators all exist in different corners of taylor’s mind.

the era of 123 lets go bitch and surprise song o’clock and waiting for taylor to get off the stage to come onto tumblr and discovering which delicate dress she would wear and freaking out over the occasional special guests and watching her smile during long live and crying when our friends posted pictures of them with their roll call paper announcing they were meeting taylor and even more friends getting picked by andrea to meet taylor after the show and feeling the literal heat from the idsb fires and going to church during dbm and the audience waving during go go go in getaway car and laughing during tiwwchnt and crying during nyd and seeing taylor play with her cute bangs and running to barricade during komh and getting whiplash from the story/ybwm and shouldve said no/bad blood mashups, and seeing the loie fuller images during dress!!! and so many people got to experience this so many times after a relatively seamless and fairer system of getting tickets. so many ppl got tickets day of their shows for $40!! it was just…. so magical i miss it!

if there’s no mask mandate/proof of vaccination/proof of negative covid test before her shows, I doubt taylor will be meeting fans this era. with andrea being immunocompromised and with such high demand for her shows, having to cancel any dates to sickness or worse getting her mom sick would be something taylor likely won’t be willing to risk, and the lack of any midnights secret session is proof of that. heartbreaking to think so many swifties including me may never get a chance to hug her :(
