Let’s Talk: Pidge’s Gender

Now before I say anything, this post is about how Pidge is female. I am in no way trying to offend anyone here, but it is a fact that she identifies as such. I am simply explaining the scenes that confuse people into thinking otherwise. Some of it is theory based while others are common sense. 

For example, Pidge directly states that she cannot literally “man up” because she is a girl (Season 1, Episode 6).

This should be enough evidence as is. However, the fandom seems to push it aside sometimes, and this is mostly seen with the bathroom scene (Season 2, Episode 7).

First, I would like to state the obvious. 

Colors do not belong to males or females. Also, those symbols were likely never seen on Earth or in the Garrison, considering this is an alien-run Space Mall. Even more obvious, how could you tell the gender of the alien moving past Pidge just by looking at them? This seemed to be Pidge’s exact thought before she said she would just hold it. 

I would also like to point out the fact that this show is set in the future. Most likely, LGBT laws and rights are not much of a problem in this universe, especially if this is ten thousand years from now. There may not be any bathroom indications in this future, such as common color or words that direct each gender to the bathroom. This is a speculation, but it could very much be true. If this were confirmed or even denied, it would not change the fact that Pidge identifies as female.

All of her family, friends, and teammates use she/her because she asked them to. So please respect her pronouns too! ♥️♥️

Let’s Talk: The “Klance” Scene (S3, EP6)

You all know the one; “Leave the math to Pidge.”

I do not think this is a romantic scene, not at all. 

Let me start by saying this; Lance seems to be the only paladin who is uncertain about Shiro’s coming back. At some points, he is even angered by Shiro’s lack of considering his ideas and by his plans. He is definitely skeptical of Shiro. 

So who else was there to go to? Who else would understand Lance’s problem? Someone with leadership qualities. At the time, Keith was the team leader, the Black Lion’s pilot. If Shiro had never gone missing, wouldn’t you think he would have gone to him instead?

I believe Lance went to Keith because either he wouldn’t want to worry Hunk or Pidge, or because he knew Keith would take him the most seriously, since he is the “Loner” of the group. The most simple reason is because he’s the leader.

Another key point is that Lance is not specifically there to talk to Keith. He’s worried about the team itself (I know it’s obvious, but this seems to be forgotten often). He truly feels like the least valued member of Voltron at this point, and he wants to ensure what’s best for the team.

Lance simply doesn’t know what to do. He is facing a situation that is seriously troubling him, and is seeking any advice he can find, hoping for an answer. We’ve all been there. However, when Keith says that things will work themselves out, Lance looks disappointed. Though he doesn’t know what he wants to hear, he knows he doesn’t want to hear that. His reaction says it all.

Last but not least is the most “iconic” moment.

Keith smiles and cracks a joke in an attempt to do his job as a leader and cheer up his teammate, seemingly because he knows his answer wasn’t what Lance wanted. Keith also doesn’t know what Lance needs to hear, because we have barely seen him try to console anyone until now. 

And Lance’s smile here? This does not seem truly genuine. He doesn’t look okay, or like the seventh wheel thoughts are even close to going away. He doesn’t look comforted. I think Lance knew Keith tried his best, and that this was a polite gesture to Keith genuinely trying to give him advice. In no way do I think this is meant to be romantic. 

I think this is meant to show just how different Lance and Keith are. Just how much they have to realize about each other, or each others feelings, to get closer. I think this was another try at a bonding moment between them, and it’s on the path to them developing a closer friendship, then a relationship later on.

I’ve just been seeing this as a “sign of Klance being canon,” and wanted to show my own take on it. I think they will be canon in the end, but not really because of or due to this particular moment.

Let’s Talk: Voltron Shipping

So here I am with some shipping theories. They’re fun and all, and the majority of this fandoms theories are on the Klance topic. 

Endgame, I do believe Klance is the goal. I will not be diving deeply into Klance since it has been done many times, but there are a few Klance-related topics I’ve been thinking of that aren’t frequently mentioned in these other Klance-centered posts. 

We all know about a lot of the Klance clues, but I wanted to discuss the future. Now that team Voltron is in communication with Lotor, hints have been thrown at us. Like the one about Lotor taking a liking to Keith since he’s half Galra, that Lance doesn’t get along with Lotor as the fans thought he would. This is key evidence to consider for the Klance evolution- jealousy. My guess is that this could be relevant to when Lance was jealous of Matt Holt when he first saw Allura. The same jealousy could occur this way if Lotor were to try to get close enough to Keith this season. 

A lot of fans argue that Klance will be canon due to Joaquim’s statement; “Lance is going to end up in a completely opposite place than where he first started.” I can also see Allurance here.

Where Lance started was, of course, flirting with Allura. Joaquim’s statement could mean that Lance seriously matures, learns to see Allura in a new light, and doesn’t try to be too forward as he has been previously. Lance says he doesn’t want to settle down at the moment, though, so it could take all season or the rest of Voltron for him to win Allura over. As Shada says, “They’re usually slow burn with the relationships in the show.” In all honesty though, I cannot see Allurance as much as an end result, but there is always the possibility. 

My next topic is the possibility of Matt and Keith developing a relationship. Throughout the show, you can see many signs of Keith showing his homosexuality (how he looks at Rollo, no romantic emotion towards Allura, etc.). We don’t know much about Matt’s preferences, since he was only seen showing somewhat romantic feelings for Allura, which seemed to quickly vanish, seeming to be only a comedic scene, but we don’t really know. **In S4, EP5, however, he does show some crush-like feelings for Allura again (thanks to @/n-trace to pointing this out!). The reason I bring up Matt and Keith is because of this: who was the one who realized immediately what Keith was doing when he was flying into the shield? Matt was. I have a huge feeling that Matt will mention this some way or another to the other paladins, maybe even in their meeting with Lotor. I also have a feeling that Matt could relate to Keith’s experience, being a rebel fighter, and have a heart to heart with him. Keith would obviously be reluctant, but again, there’s the possibility. So Keith and Matt bonding over this experience could be a clever way to start a relationship, though this could be a stretch. This could also be another way to trigger jealousy through Lance.

If the Klance route is official, then there’s a chance for Matt/Allura, too. Matt will very likely have at least a small crush on Allura fo a while, according to subtle details in season 4. I think this ship could be powerful and efficient, given proper development, though I’m not sure how likely it would be. It may have the same chance as Kallura, which is close to none at this point. It all depends on their chemistry.

We also know that Pidge/Paladin and Shiro/Paladin is very unlikely, and that Hunk and Shay are thought to have a romantic connection currently/later on.

I’m sure I have more to add to this, but for now, I think most of this shipping action will happen between Keith, Lance, Allura, and Matt. This post was mainly to organize my own thoughts on this shipping matter, even though it’s likely we’ll figure it out very soon!
