There was this sudden silly notion in his head that maybe he should put his mask back on and make up an excuse for why he would be seeking at such an hour. It was not unlike when he was young, searching through his mother’s books and scrawling little notes off to the sides of them. 

That notion did not last, but for a second and if anything, it only made his stride more determined, his gaze more purposeful and intense.

Looming over Loki, he paused for a moment to observe her without a word and then, in equal uncharacteristic silence, he bent down, placing a gentle kiss on her temple. 

“You have been missed.”
