Although the #Hulk’s radioactive origin presented in his first issue (1962) appears taken from The Amazing Colossal Man (1957) and his appearance from Boris Karloff’s #Frankenstein (1931), his transformation choreography appears to utilize one that was enjoyed by audiences of Dr. #Jekyll and Mr. #Hyde (1931) for which the main actor, Frederic March won the #AcademyAward for Best Actor. https://www.instagram.com/p/CcMkph6rRWF/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

During the 1990s, I always loved reading #DanJurgens #Superman. #deepfake https://www.instagram.com/p/Cb357rjsPJp/?utm_medium=tumblr
I haven’t made any motion #comics in a while, so this morning I found this promotional image for New #Eternia #Skeletor and felt the compulsion to #animate it. #motu https://www.instagram.com/p/CbnprzSBfnK/?utm_medium=tumblr
#Daredevil 29, 6/1967. #Fantastic sense of movement by #GeneColan, a master of #kinetic #anatomy. Inks by John Tartaglione https://www.instagram.com/p/Cbl5I9Jr8Lg/?utm_medium=tumblr
Before John Byrne brought the Marvel style to Superman in 1986, #GeneColan did the same in 1982 with the #PhantomZone mini-series written by Steve Gerber. This is Gene Colan's #Superman from issue 4. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cbgqm-qrzWA/?utm_medium=tumblr
I enjoyed sitting down with @alex_segura to discuss his career in #comics and his #CrimeFiction novel, #SecretIdentity, set in 1975 #NewYork. The 1st person tour of the 1970s comics industry were so much fun to #experience, and the #mystery is top notch. youtu.be/5YKtTuGKVEI Comic Book Historians #YouTube channel https://www.instagram.com/p/CbGI9i7vIJR/?utm_medium=tumblr
Out of This World Adventures #1 (1950) by #GardnerFox and John Giunta is an interesting depiction of a #Conan figure in pre-code comic books. Fox was an interesting writer, depicting characters from the #GoldenAge to the #SilverAge including Hawkman, Flash, Sandman, JSA, JLA, among others. However, its his nonsuperhero material for other publishers like this page that stand out as unique. https://www.instagram.com/p/Ca2KOJ4lUEW/?utm_medium=tumblr
The original #Heap stories by #Hillman are a fun and early exploration of the #monster genre in comic books. His dysfunctional relationship with his sidekick Rickie Wood, and its inherent problems of a co-dependent relationship with a teenager seem better portrayed in these stories than the #RickJones / #Hulk relationship of the 1960s. The mechanisms of their transformation were quite different, due to the fascination of atomic bombs during the era of #BruceBanner. The story of #Xemnu from #Journey into #Mystery has an all together different origin, but his appearance and name seem to function as a "missing link" between the two characters. 1942, 1960, 1961 https://www.instagram.com/p/Cag5kFdrCXC/?utm_medium=tumblr
Many of the 1930s comic strip creators were artists, but it was #LeeFalk who created the #Phantom as its writer. The first run's art by #RayMoore is beautiful, but it is Lee Falk's dialogue that really shines from panel to panel. (1939) https://www.instagram.com/p/CaCFfijrT_h/?utm_medium=tumblr
Jim #Starlin created the cosmic entity #Death for #Marvel first as a one-off concept In Journey Into Mystery Vol. 2 #1 (1972) and then in-continuity in Captain Marvel #26 (1973). The concept isn't new to humanity, but his visuals evoke Steve #Ditko's hooded figure, the so-called symbol of #Nightmare's evil, that #DoctorStrange encountered in #Strange Tales #110 (1963). Starlin mentioned that he visited Ditko's studio as a young fan in 1965, examining his idol's nearby sketches of arms in various positions. https://www.instagram.com/p/CZpXd4pPF9T/?utm_medium=tumblr

An interesting photo of four #comicbook greats, Will #Eisner, Burne #Hogarth, Jerry #Robinson and Jack #Kirby at the 1989 #SanDiego #ComicCon when Robinson got the #GoldKey Award. https://www.instagram.com/p/CZG0Pp2rACG/?utm_medium=tumblr
Arnold Drake and Frank Springer satirized #Steranko's SHIELD run, taking fun jabs at his cinematic approach to the series in Not Brand Echh 11 (1968). The heart with Steranko + #Hitchcock is its own punchline. https://www.instagram.com/p/CYzHXo-Pc4F/?utm_medium=tumblr
