HBO might have big plans for DC ALOT OF NEWS IS POPING OFF
So Watchmen premiered tonight and surprisingly, itâs tackling white supremacist radicalization in an alternate universe where masked cops are battling it out with an uprising white supremacist groupâŚand whaddya knowâwhite supremacists are ganging up in the audience Tomatometer with hate-comments and brought down the audience score all the way down to fucking 51%.
And theyâre so silly because what makes them stand out is their constant use of buzzwords like âSJWâ, âdivisiveâ, âpropagandaâ, etc. One even had the nerve to say that it was âtoo politicalâ and one even said something about white hate. White supremacists really think theyâre smart and hiding in plain sight.
Watchmen (comic) was one of the most politically charged comic books of all time when it came out - it was a critique of Americaâs political climate during the 70s/80s, as well as a deconstruction of the superhero genre. lmao imagine being one of these idiots who loved the comic yet are complaining that the tv series is doing the exact same thing the comic did
LMAO
One of the saddest things about people getting upset about Comics getting political means they didn't take the time to actually look through the writers message in first place it's sad
itâs even worse since almost all those companies are owned by Disney anyway so like, imagine the reblog chain thing except itâs 1 user with 5 sockpuppet accounts talking to themself for notes
Idkw but this just brings back so much anger for the corporate allegorical that has Disney become
I'M FUCKING DECEASED. YOU CAN'T LET SPEAR BE ALONE WITHOUT FANG?!! THEY WENT THROUGH SO MUCH SHIT TOGETHER W/FAMILY LOSS AND ADVENTURES. WHY IS GOD PUNISHING HIM.
PLEASE SAY SIKE AT FANG NOT RESPONDING.
PLEASE.
GENNDYYYYYY
So the creator of Samurai Jack has a new show coming out called Primal, and it looks pretty dope
IT'S A MASTERPIECE PLEAS WATCH IT
MCU Captain America: Never talks about his feelings, never has a life outside the 40's, essentially gets everything he wants by whining about it, constantly smiles or wears an indifferent expression.
Fans: OH! SUCH a role model! Every man should be (and by "be" we mean "look") like this.
Superman: opens up to people, often asks other peoples' opinions, tries to help people as a reporter, loves his mother to a fault, would literally die for his girlfriend, shows emotions like sadness and anger.
Fans: HORRIBLE (that he didn't smile at me and make me feel special)! A complete psychopath! TOO POLITICAL! Everyone knows Superman should be worshipped by everyone around him and never be questioned. These people should give him to a monopolistic corporation that exploits the childhood they helped make so he can be my voiceless smiling fuckdoll who smiles and fights bad guys and smiles...did we mention he needs to smile...like, A LOT?
Joker: *kills 3 people in cold blood*
Joker two minutes later:
My brother just sent me this (I think on Twitter???) and I-
Couldnât have said it better myself.
HOLLLLLLLLD TF UP
Where is Kryptoâs Academy Award nomination?
This was mostly a joke post but idk if any of you kids have ever worked with dogs on set, but itâs absolute CHAOS. Everyone loses any sense of professionalism and order once a dog comes on set - cast and crew members within 15ft will stop whatever theyâre doing at any given time to go pat set-doggo. Then when you unleash the doggo onto screen for a take, getting even very well-trained doggos to behave or to stay in aesthetically pleasing positions is so hard. Wrigley snapped with this on screen portrayal of the best boy from Krypton
I canât. I just have no words for this.
âŚ.What were you expecting??
I sort of understand what theyâre coming from. We were thoroughly warned in advance that this would be a downer but DC (in general) does need to reclaim its sense of hope.  Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Shazam are helping to restore that. I just hope the success of The Joker doesnât make them back paddle into Zack Snyder Edgelordiness, not quite getting why this film was a hit. Â
Because there are more ways of telling a story beyond happiness, optimism, brightness and saving the day while facing no troubles.
You have lighthearted crowdpleasers like Aquaman, Shazam and WW. Played safe, no risks, frequent jokes to remind the audience theyâre not supposed to be taken seriously. I watched them all and I do highly appreciate them.
But what Zack Snyder did wasnât edgelord-ish in any way, that is factually incorrect. His DC movies werenât ââDaRkââ for the sake of being so, they offered realistic and grounded takes of these mighty heroes that struggle with things most can relate to, like loneliness, depression, finding your place in the world, PTSD, media manipulation, xenophobia, believing in the inherent goodness of mankind even when you thought there wasnât any.
That is actual optimism. Finding the light in the dark, not filling your entire room with lamps. True hope stems from the utter lack of it. Stars canât shine without darkness. How would you be able to enjoy your happiest moments with your friends and family without having experienced what is like to be at the lowest and worst points in your life? I wouldnât.
Now, having not seen Joker yet I canât say much, but if you or others seriously have problems with lack of optimism or hope a movie thatâs inspired by the story of a character whose origins involve falling into complete madness after one trauma after the other and becoming a monster, you do you.
Heaven forbid that people might have to be content with two dozen films from Marvel and multiple DC TV shows and more to come with exactly the tone they want.
Why do people who prefer lighter films always act like theyâre under attack by more serious ones as though the last decade hasnât been them indulged extensively?
The Snyder-verse was and will continue to be edgelord trash. Snyder doesnât get what makes heroes heroic. He has a hard on for violence and pretends that is enough to merit superheroism.
Humanizing fascists isnât some great artistic labor; itâs apologia by another name. Having puke brown settings and underlighted fight scenes isnât âauteurâ. Itâs amateurish tripe with pretensions.
DC needs to git gud and produce anything with half the weight of the george bush apologia that was the dark knight or pack their shit up and make live action cartoon movies.
All this shit: âloneliness, depression, finding your place in the world, PTSD, media manipulation, xenophobia, believing in the inherent goodness of mankind even when you thought there wasnât anyâ was done better by the mcu without dipping into edgelord bullshit or batman with guns. The DCCU suuuuucks and itâs in no small part due to the fact that Zack Snyder is a fucking hack.
Even if I agreed with every word of what you just said, which I donât at all, that doesnât address what I asked.
There are two dozen Marvel films with the tone you like and more to come, multiple DC TV shows, the animated shows and films you seem to believe they should just do live-action versions of (which is nonsense but thatâs another discussion), and the last five DC films have all had the tone you prefer (the fact that you seem to hate them as well indicates that youâre not going to change your mind, regardless of what they do going forward)
So why are people acting like light-hearted comic book films are under attack by âgrimdarkâ stuff?
The genre needs variety and a lot of people just donât seem to want it to have it. And yeah youâre not going to like every film that arrives as a result. Just as not every film that aimed to have a lighter approach unlike the Nolan films worked, a fact which is conveniently ignored to fit a simple narrative.
Even if I agreed with your views on these films, it doesnât mean the idea of doing more serious films with these characters or offering up a tonal and thematic counterpart to the MCU and other DC adaptations is a bad idea in itself and should be abandoned to just make the entire genre fit one tone indefinitely.
Hell, your dismal view of Zack Snyder arguably proves that as this seems to be built around your dislike of him as a filmmaker and person so isnât it reasonable to assume that another filmmaker could have the same intent but pull it off more successfully and it would be wrong to not give them the chance?
Iâd even point to Titans as proving that a DC adaptation can have all the âgrimdarkâ elements and do it with heroic characters generally associated with lighter portrayals and make it work.
