Let’s add some joy to the day. What does prev like that isn’t so much your area, but you find you enjoy it when they blog/reblog about it?
If you were making your own GL cartoon, unconnected to any established universe, what are some things you would want to put in it?
Oh man this is a difficult one to answer because when it comes to hypothetical Green Lantern animated shows, there are two ideas that I would sell my kidneys to see
The first idea is a Green Lantern Corps animated show similar to the Justice League Action or Batman: The Brave and the Bold cartoons. Rather than having a single overarching plot, every episode would feature two or more Green Lanterns working together to stop villains or rescue innocent beings from cosmic disasters.
The goal for this show would be to showcase what exactly the Green Lanterns do when they're not dealing with Oa-shattering threats, and introduce audiences to the huge cast of nonhuman GLs that DC's built up over the decades. Ideally, each episode would pair a more well-known GL like Hal Jordan or John Stewart with aliens like Tomar-Re or Katma Tui, and have them solve problems with ingenuity and cleverness as much as they do with fisticuffs and brute force, thus showing that the Corps is more of a "cosmic Justice League" than a bunch of "space cops"
While I think it'd be a good idea to start with Hal as the "main character" to pair up with progressively less-known GLs like B'ox or Olapet, I think it'd also be fun to flip the script occasionally and have a more recognizable alien like Kilowog working with a lesser-known Earth GL like Simon Baz or Jo Mullein
And of course, a GLC animated show would be perfect to adapt classic stories like Tomar's attempt to save Krypton or Katma recruiting Rot Lop Fan
My other idea, which I'd title as Green Lantern: Torchbearer, would be a "kid superhero" cartoon in the style of Ben 10 or Danny Phantom that starts with a semi-faithful adaptation of Kyle Rayner's origins, except instead of showing Hal's Epic Crashout first, the story begins with high school-aged Kyle standing up to a stereotypical jock bullying a much smaller kid-- and promptly getting beaten up in the alleyway next to their school.
However, Kyle's actions impress a mysterious blue man, who says "you'll have to do" and gives him a green ring before vanishing. When Kyle puts on the ring, he discovers that he has the powers of a Green Lantern. He then does what any teenager with superpowers would do and becomes a vigilante
Now, part of the reason I say this would be a semi-faithful adaptation is because no one recognizes Kyle as a GL or tells him about the Corps. I'd want this hypothetical show to be accessible for new audiences as well as longtime fans, and that means Kyle is also an audience surrogate in that he's learning about the vast Green Lantern mythos alongside some of the people watching the show
(The other reason GL: Torchbearer would be considered semi-faithful is because Alex DeWitt would be included as Kyle's best friend and later love interest, but NOTHING BAD HAPPENS TO HER. Instead, she functions as Kyle's "guy in the chair" because that's kind of the role she had in the comics before getting fridged.)
After the initial introduction, it'd probably be a good idea to have a few episodes that are more "monster/villain-of-the-week" focused to show Kyle learning more about his new powers and thus establishing what he is and is not able to do with them, as well as balancing his civilian identity with his hero persona. Assuming the show gets a typical twenty-something episode count, this would only go on for about 3-4 episodes at most
By this point, Kyle's starting to get cocky. The bad guys he's facing are really minor villains like Ohm or Tattooed Man who don't pose any real threat to him, especially since he now has a good idea of how to use his powers. That immediately changes with the arrival of Amon Sur, who kicks Kyle's shit in and brags about how he's defeated dozens of Green Lanterns better than him. Kyle and Alex eventually figure out how to defeat Amon, but they're now aware that there are way more dangerous enemies and so much more to his ring than they know
Things continue to ramp up throughout subsequent episodes, as Kyle and Alex face off against several enemies who want his ring, either for themselves or to retrieve it for a mysterious figure referred to as "Parallax." In the season finale, Parallax himself appears, and reveals that he was the previous owner of the ring that Kyle now wields, as well as the champion of the Green Lantern Corps.
Kyle does his best to fight off Parallax, but is too inexperienced. Just as Parallax is about to take the ring however, a woman in glowing pink armor arrives. They clearly know each other (she calls Parallax "Hal" while he addresses her as "Star Sapphire") but surprisingly she helps Kyle fight him. Parallax seems reluctant to actually hurt Star Sapphire, and she tells him that he'll have to kill her to take Kyle's ring. This ultimatum is enough to make Parallax fly away into space, and Star Sapphire then introduces herself as Carol Ferris, and tells Kyle that they need to talk.
And that's where Season 1 would end mwahahahaha
These are great ideas!
My own take on a GL series is similar to your first pitch, & your Torchbearer series sound so cool!!!!
And Parallax!Hal turning out to be the big bad of the series would be pretty cool. And mentor Star Sapphire is great too!
Love it!

Bloodthirsty - Page 59
This is a pretty good scene, ngl. I like how it's almost like a heist film where the characters have to wait for a signal before anything can start.
