could i request a scenario of kyle with a bard!prisoner!reader who's part of the rebellion, and they both want to escape?
Kyle presses a button and waits for the elevator platform. He hates prison duty. Even if he only has one floor of cells to supervise, even one mistake could be disastrous. Prisoners try to escape every day, but most never make it out of their cells. When they do, itâs a nightmare for the one who had been supervising them, even if theyâre recaptured. Which they always are. No one has ever escaped from the Horde.
The platform finally arrives. Kyle picks up the meal tray (an inaccurate name; it implies that the contents of the tray are edible) designated for the prisoner in Cell A-508, steps on the platform, and punches the cell number into the keypad. His fingers drum on the bottom of the tray nervously. This prisoner is new, and new prisoners are always angry. He vividly remembers a woman with wild eyes screeching all manner of curses at him while pressing herself against the cell force field, paying no mind to the burns forming on her skin.
It takes Kyle a minute to find the cell. Itâs not that heâs scared of what this new prisoner will be like. He just got turned around. He braces himself for the unpleasant encounter heâs about to have, tensing more and more with each step closer to his destination. He listens for the telltale signs of a new arrival: screaming, banging, and the buzzing of the force field as the prisoner pounds against it.
Instead, he hears a voice. The voice isnât speaking or shouting. Itâs doingâwell, something. The pitch is moving up and down at an odd rhythm in a language he doesnât understand. Heâs never heard anything like it, and heâs absolutely mesmerized. Kyle realizes heâs stopped in his tracks after a moment and keeps walking.
The prisoner inside Cell A-508 is just as enthralling as the sound coming from them. Kyle stares for a moment before he presses a button on the keypad next to the cell and a small rectangular hole opens up in the force field.
âD-dinner rations,â he stutters as he holds the tray through the opening. The prisoner looks up at him, startled. Kyleâs sad to hear the sound go.
âDamn near made me jump out of my skin,â the prisoner mumbles. They stand up from where they had been slumped against the wall and take the tray from Kyle just before the opening closes.
âWhat were you just doing?â Kyle blurts out.
The prisoner regards him with an indifferent glance in his direction as they sit on the floor again. âSinging. Itâs going to be the only thing to keep me from going insane in this place.â
âSinging?â
âYou donât know what singing is?â the prisoner says incredulously. âDonât you have music?â
âNo,â Kyle says. âIâve never even heard of it.â
âAll the more reason for me to get the hell out of here,â the prisoner says. âThatâd be a lot easier if I had my instrument.â
âDo you know where it is?â
The prisoner doesnât just look up this time. They stand and look Kyle up and down. He squirms under their gaze. âWhat are you playing at?â
âY-you want to escape, right?â Kyle asks. The prisoner nods. âWell, I do too. Iâve been wanting to for a long time, but I know I couldnât do it on my own, and if I tell anyone around here, I donât know whatâll happen to me.â
âYouâd betray your own that easily?â
Kyle looks at the ground. âIâve never felt like I belong here. I donât want to hurt people. I-I just want to live a normal life.â
The prisoner gives him a quick once-over. âWhatâs your name?â
âKyle.â
The prisoner gives their name before continuing. âI donât know how much I can trust you Kyle, but it seems like youâre my only chance getting out of here and back to Bright Moon. Can I at least trust you to not let me down?â
Kyle gives a small, determined nod. The prisoner grins.
âThen it looks like weâre a team.â
