It’s been this way ever since you were a child.
Bruises. Cuts. Fractures. It was all you really knew. You never understood why you were so fragile—if anything, you probably needed a caution sticker stuck to you at all times.
Rin knew about your little… habits. Back then, it wasn’t anything worth paying attention to. There were plenty of clumsy kids—you weren’t special.
…but when it kept happening again…and again. He finally had enough.

“Oof—!”
A small grunt leaves your lips as you trip over who knows what on your way to class.
You hit the pavement hard, the impact scraping your knee. The thin fabric of your tights tears instantly, and it doesn’t take long for blood to start seeping through the material.
You sigh.
Typical.
Like always, you move to push yourself up—ready to brush it off and pretend nothing happened.
But before you could even try to stand up—
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?”
You freeze. Your eyes shooting up to look right at him as if you were doing something you weren’t supposed to.
Rin’s voice cuts through the air, sharp and irritated, as he crouches down in front of you without hesitation, eyes already scanning your injury.
“Rin! I’m fine,” you insist quickly, waving him off. “It doesn’t even hurt. I’ll just clean it up in class—”
“No.”
He cuts you off instantly.
“I’m taking you to the nurse.” His tone was firm—non-negotiable.
Before you can protest again, he’s already lifting you up like it’s nothing.
“Rin—! Put me down!” you whisper-yell, heat rushing to your face as a few students glance your way.
“Stop moving,” he mutters, adjusting his hold slightly. “You’ll make it worse.”
And just like that, any argument died in your throat.

Once inside the nurse’s office, Rin sets you down carefully on one of the beds; far gentler than you expected.
He doesn’t waste a second.
Already turning away, he grabs supplies like he’s done this a hundred times before.
“Rin, seriously, I’m okay,” you try again, softer this time. “It’s just a scratch—”
“Can you stop, Y/N?”
You go quiet immediately.
Your eyes widen slightly at his tone—not angry, just… strained.
“Just let me take care of you… please.”
…That does it.
Your lips press together, and you nod—finally giving in.
Rin exhales quietly, like he didn’t realize he’d been holding his breath, before kneeling down in front of you again.
Up close, his brows are slightly furrowed, his focus entirely on your knee.
“This is gonna sting,” he says, voice flatter now as he pours alcohol onto a cotton pad.
You roll your eyes lightly. “Rin, I’ve had cuts before, I’ll be fi—”
The second the alcohol touches your skin—
“Ah—!”
You hiss, flinching slightly.
Rin pauses for just a second… then continues, a little more careful this time.
“I told you it would hurt,” he mutters, quieter now.
“…Shut up,” you mumble, avoiding his gaze.
A faint—barely there—twitch at the corner of his lips appears before disappearing just as quickly.
Once he’s done cleaning it, he places a bandage over your knee, pressing it down gently.
But… he doesn’t move.
He stays there, kneeling in front of you.
“Rin?” you tilt your head slightly, a small smile creeping onto your face. “What are you doing?”
“…Stay still.”
His voice is softer this time. Not an order…more like a quiet request.
Your smile softens.
Then, after a brief pause—
“…Promise me you’ll be more careful.”
Your breath catches.
“What—?”
Heat rushes to your cheeks almost instantly at his words. Were you hearing him correctly?
“Y/N,” he murmurs, finally looking up at you.
His ears are faintly pink.
“…Just promise.”
There’s something vulnerable in the way he says it—something rare.
You swallow.
“…I promise.”
For a second, he just looks at you.
Then he lets out a quiet breath, tension leaving his shoulders.
“…Good.”
He stands up quickly after that, like the moment never happened, his usual scowl slipping right back into place.
“Come on. Let’s go.” He huffs, turning towards the door without waiting.
You blink… then smile to yourself, hopping off the bed to follow after him.
You fall into step beside him easily.
“You need to buy new tights,” he says bluntly.
You snort, “Yeah, I know that, captain obvious.”
“…Whatever.”
But he slows his pace—just slightly—so you can keep up.
