An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
"Hello? Who is this?" Catra gasped. For a second all of her pain melted away. She knew that voice. It was the one that had been circling in her mind the most since she had been released from Horde Prime's control. This time she knew the name of the person who spoke – Adora.
"Hey Adora."

“Adora, come on! I don’t want to fight you! I never did! And you’re...having a panic attack...” Catra’s eyes went wide with concern. Even though Adora had been poised to attack for several seconds, she had not moved. She now began to whimper and collapsed to the ground, holding her head in her hands.
Catra gasped. She had seen Adora spiral before but never like this. It was almost as if she had been holding it in for weeks. Maybe she had. It then occurred to Catra that if she had been successful in getting Adora to attack her in the ballroom, this might not have happened.
Punching things had always been Adora’s way of dealing with impending panic attacks. This fight was too little too late.
That was when Catra made a decision which would change the course of Etherian history.
“Adora...I'm sorry.” With that, Catra picked up what she assumed was Kyle’s discarded stun baton, knocking out Adora.

Once Adora was close enough, she sat down on the bed next to Catra. She expected Catra to tell her to go away, to yell at her for what had happened all those years ago. Instead, she sat up and gave Adora a hug. Safe to say that Adora was confused. She was even more confused when Catra started crying into her shoulder. Adora awkwardly hugged her back, repeating:
“Okay…it’s okay…” After nearly five minutes, Catra finally stopped, pulled back and said:
“Adora, I’m sorry…for everything.” Adora gasped. Out of all the things she had expected Catra to say, an apology was not one of them.

“Catra! Something really strange just happened!” Catra turned to look at her friend quizzically. Adora rarely had anything to say, preferring to simply sit in silence while Catra complained about the system, the school, how she really could not care less about her crest and whoever it previously belonged to…
Before Catra could ask what Adora was talking about, her friend grabbed her arm and dragged her back down the main hallway of the school. When Catra realized Adora was taking her to the church, she grimaced:
“Oh come on, Adora! You know I hate going to the church!” Adora ignored her and practically pushed her through the door. The edifice was empty, lit up by the rows of crests lined up along the walls. Catra’s sat in a dark corner near the entrance – an eternal symbol of her inherent failure to be good enough.
She-Ra’s sword lay in its own case on the altar, as it always did. Only now, it was glowing. Catra then realized with a shock that Adora was glowing too…

"Catra? Is that you?” Catra immediately looked up, leaned over Adora and said:
“Yes. It’s me. I’m here.” Adora had never been more comforted in her life. She now remembered enough about what had happened to her to know that she was dying – that something on Beast Island had killed her. And yet, in her final moments, Catra, the girl who she could never hate, and who she lived to see on the battlefield, was by her side.

"Catra!” Catra turned to see Adora run towards her. Adora embraced her so hard that the force of it made Catra fall backwards.
As the two girlfriends lay holding each other in the grass of the Whispering Woods, Glimmer could not help but smile.
Yes, she would need to cuff Catra again before going into the palace. Yes, she would need to lock her up in the spare room. And yes, there would have to be a trial in which she could not guarantee the outcome. But, regardless of Glimmer's personal feelings about Catra, there was no doubt that it was all worth it just so she could have this moment with Adora.

Catra turned around, expecting to see the principal. Instead, she saw a beautiful blonde-haired girl not much taller than her. The girl looked like she had been running, wiping the sweat from her forehead with the back of her hand while leaning somewhat dramatically against the doorpost.
The girl did not look at Catra, looking instead at her watch. Catra could not help but observe her bulging muscles, perfectly accentuated by a school shirt that was way too small for her. Her tie was loose and dangling provocatively down either side of her neck, while her jacket sleeves were tied around her waist.
“Ha! That’s a new record! Swifty, I made it from the canteen to the office in 2 minutes!” As soon as Swifty’s name was called, an adorable golden retriever trotted past the muscular girl and entered the office. Catra realized the blonde beauty had just been holding the door open for it – only she had done it in the dorkiest way possible.

This fic is a tribute to the absolute masterpiece that is "tonight will be the night (that i will fall for you)" by @Moonlit_Catra and @sherasswords. I could never claim to be as talented or creative as these two amazing writers, but they just ended their fic and I want to thank them for the incredible journey they took us on. If you have not yet read this fic, I highly recommend you do so before reading this.
Now get ready for the extended ending which may or may not make you cry.

Sasha groaned in pain, struggling to get back up. Darcy chimed:
“We know, Sasha. We know that all Marcy ever wanted were friends who knew her, loved her, cared for her. Anne was bad enough, prioritizing her friendships with you and her frog friends over everyone else. But you, Sasha? You used her, you ignored her and you abandoned her! Marcy has no interest in ever seeing you again!” Sasha, who had now managed to stand back up, raised her swords and pointed them at Darcy, smirking:
“Seriously? You think you can emotionally manipulate me? How adorable.” With that, Sasha charged forward once more. Expecting another metal tentacle to jump out and hit her, the blonde proceeded with caution. This gave Darcy enough time to reveal the fiery scythe they had been hiding, murmuring:
“Well then… let’s rumble, girlfriend.”

Captain Catra… the name meant a lot of different things to a lot of different people.
To First Mate Scorpia, Catra was her best friend who had escaped from the Fright Zone with her, giving her a new life and a much greater purpose than anything the horrid witch and ex-lord of the Horde had promised.
For Pilot Entrapta, Catra was a shield against a world that had never really understood her nor tolerated her. She was also the only person to ever successfully steal some of the most advanced technology in all Etheria, a Horde ship, and she was content to let Entrapta play with all of it.
For the princesses and their kingdoms, the feline was a dangerous bandit and a terrible nuisance.
However, for Adora, Princess of Brightmoon, the name of Captain Catra bore no importance at all...
OR
Here is yet another pirate AU where the name of Captain Catra will become VERY important to Princess Adora whether she likes it or not... ;)
