Apparently some people still need to hear this so: using an 'ai checker' is still using ai. If you are feeding someone's fic to one of these checkers, you will still not be sure their fic is ai because they are not 100% accurate, but you can be 100% sure that you are using ai. For fic. Furthermore you are doing the work of an ai scraper for them. You are, personally, feeding the machine. There is no actual excuse for using an ai checker on fanfic as a hobby. YOU are the problem.

If you think a fic is ai, mute it and move on. That's it. That's all you do.

The first time I received student work that I was pretty sure was AI, I fed it to a couple AI checkers and the results ranged from like 91% to 12% likelihood of AI use. Those things do not work. Granted that was like 2 years ago and I’m sure the detection technology has improved, but the AI language generation has also improved.

I type the word "slop" a lot. Usually when I'm trying to tag something as "spop" on here. Luckily, my phone has figured that out and tends to autocorrect. Also luckily, Tumblr has started saving tags with the suggested correction when I hit Enter.
