love the way Abed will just completely non-judgementally correct Troy when he gets mixed up with words and ideas about how the world works and stuff. biggest sign he's really upset in the pillow war is when he doesn't correct Troy on the "all tomato". but he still is not judging him for that specifically.

Like the whole celebrity impersonators situation is a pretty great portrayal of an autistic misunderstanding that could be seen as just carelessness from outside. Abed genuinely has not processed the kind of danger he's in, it's intangible and secondary to his special interest that he's absorbed in. Troy is secretive and protective about it because he knows treating this in a simply didactic way will hurt Abed, and he knows nobody else will really understand what's going on in his head. Abed has been told not to be himself too many times to just trust that others are right about a situation without an explanation. But then when Troy tries to explain the problem he's too upset to do it properly (understandably), and Abed is immediately triggered by the thought that he could lose him, and focuses on that rather than actually processing the situation he got into. There is a lot of love on both sides but not very good communication, even if it is better than it would be coming from anyone else. Troy is just relieved that it's supposedly over, and is surprised when things are different. Abed has processed this as Social Danger and nothing else, as giving in to avoid abandonment. And probably to some viewers this looks like Abed is incomprehensibly stubborn because they don't see how he can just not understand the real problem. It's all really fucked up and it's painfully familiar.

So Abed had tracking devices in all of the study group members right? And I'm assuming none of them could find the trackers to get rid of them, and of course that means Troy's too who left to go be at sea. Meaning Abed 100% was stalking Troy's whereabouts several times a day. And when he moved from Greendale he still definitely still stalked everyone, just to make sure they are right where they belong. Plus making sure Peirce hasn't unfortunately came back to life.

I guess I just might have been more moved by Jeff's apparent growth and acceptance of change if it wasn't communicated through a fantasy where young white women took the places of all his friends and a weird extra hug for the guy he had spent most of his time lately treating like shit

Fortunately the way both Troy and Annie tend to deal with this discomfort is with awkward laughter and Abed supportively mirrors their laughter and it becomes genuine for all of them in a "don't know why I'm laughing" type way and they all have a collective giggle fit while a fake orgasm plays onscreen

The thing that makes Abed such important autistic representation imo is NOT that he's some amazing perfect unproblematic portrayal because lmao no but it's like. He was created by a guy who didn't know what he was representing at first and didn't know what that meant about himself, and he listened when people talked about Abed being autistic and he did research, but he also was clearly struggling with a lot of issues and I think internalised ableism. So like Abed's portrayal has the perfect mix of grasping for acceptance and sometimes reaching it very well but other times missing the mark and being so full of terrible assumptions, but they are assumptions that are true to life for an autistic person to be faced with. And then audience reactions to him tell you a lot about their views on real life autistic people, pretty reliably. And it's like sometimes it's very painful to watch but that's because of the gut-wrenching accuracy of how people treat him and how he treats himself sometimes.

Abed and Annie were so in sync during the dancing and spying in Modern Espionage though, and like, it's been previously established that Abed struggles to have a conversation while focusing on dance moves (he gets me like nobody else). So I'm imagining that they practiced together at home.

Troy tried it too but no matter what he did his laughs always came out sounding sweet and charming. Chang got frustrated and yelled at him, and Troy ran off crying. Abed sat there looking alarmed, and then Chang rolled his eyes and was like "go to him". Abed runs off as Chang yells "gayyy!"

Club Club is unironically a good idea though it could give college students a safer environment in which to do things people do in the club. Maybe after some club practice they can do a club trip to the club. But they're looking after each other you know? Making sure everyone gets home safe. Jeff and Britta should've been in Club Club.

Jeff: That's ridiculous I'm a grown man I've been in clubs many times

What do you think would happen if Abed had ever just...had enough during season 6 and told Jeff how he felt about the way he treats him? Like gave a classic "reasons why you suck" speech?

I mean I would've really liked that, it would've been cathartic. I'm not sure whether it would actually make Jeff think about how he was acting or if he'd get worse, his awareness and willingness to try seem to fluctuate. I would hope it'd make him think, but I guess it depends. I think at least most of the group would stand by Abed if they were around when it happened. Like some of them were probably scared to speak up too, but like Annie and Frankie for example would probably support him if he actually spoke up about it. I'm not sure about Britta, I think she'd try but she honestly seemed pretty burnt out by that point. But either way yeah Abed deserved to have his say about it.

Guys just finished community and I realized something. Abed doesn’t talk about inspector spacetime at all in the seasons after Troy leaves. Which means he probably stopped watching because it wasn’t the same 🥀🥀🥀🥀
