Dealing with a bad grade or negative thoughts:
I have had a huge number of messages and inboxes asking about how to deal with a bad grade, or how to feel better about the fact that they have to much work to do/think they are going to fail their exams. I thought I’d make a post addressing this, in the hope that it will be helpful to some of you :)
DEALING WITH A BAD GRADE:
The first thing you have to do is to accept that you have got the grade you have gotten - whether that is a B instead of your usual A, or it is a fail grade.
Try and analyse why you got that grade. Is it something as simple as not working hard for that assignment? Or did you work hard and still not achieve the grade you wanted - then the issue might be exam technique, timing etc.
It is so important to talk in this situation. Talk to your teachers about the grade you got, and about how to improve - do they think this is a one off? Or is there something they can do to help if they think you might be struggling with the material. The worst thing you can do is to deny the grade and just withdraw yourself.
As hard as it sounds, look at this ‘bad’ grade as something good. Take this opportunity to learn from any mistakes you might have made. Correct the paper you didn’t do well in so that it is up to full marks, try and see exactly why you didn’t get the marks you missed.
Then start working on an action plan of how to do better next time. The worst thing to do would be to stall completely and get focused on this one bad grade. If you focus too much on it then you won’t be able to progress and learn from what you did wrong. Instead of focusing on the fact that you got a bad grade, look forward to the next test and be determined to smash it!
If you are in the position that this isn’t a one off, and you are finding a particular subject and its exams very hard, maybe you should looking at getting a tutor? Talk to your teachers to see if they can give you extra questions, or one-to-one sessions during lunch/after-school. Your teachers want to help you, so utilise them.
Changing your attitude and thinking positively:
A lot of you have sent me messages telling me that you are scared to fail, or that you are sure that the work you’re doing won’t pay off etc. In cases like this I think it’s you attitudes that need to change.
If you take the stand that you will fail your exams, that because you are getting bad grades now you’ll obviously fail in summer so there’s no point even trying etc. etc. of course you aren’y going to do well! You need to think positively in order to succeed.
Start telling yourself that you will succeed, that you will pass, that you are good enough - even if you don’t believe it at first. If you keep that mantra going around your head, your attitude will shift and you will start feeling better about your situation.
Don’t dwell on the past - on grades you have got earlier in the term etc. just keep focused on the future, and the things you have to do in order to get where you want to go.
Keep reminding yourself of your goals and aspirations. If ever you are feeling unmotivated or in doubt of yourself, remember what you want to achieve and think about what you have to do to get there, and how much you want to get there - this will help motivate you and empower you.
Remember that bad grades do not define you. You are worth so much more than some letters on a piece of paper, so make sure you are happy and healthy before you start worrying about a bad grade. Good luck all of you! :)
Hi, everyone! I’ve been meaning to post my own little master post since I started this blog. I am a big believer in using different study methods, therefore I chose to make a post about the different methods that you can use to study effectively!
There are many benefits to using different study methods. Firstly, it helps you discover which method works best for you. Secondly, by using multiple study methods you are much more likely to remember the information you are trying to memorise etc.
Therefore, a couple of my favourites are:
Bullet points - probably one of the most simple ways to study. I think bullet points can be very effective when done right. Make sure the information is concise otherwise it won’t be very helpful when studying right up to the exam!
Flashcards - one of my personal favourite study methods! Flashcards are so helpful when trying to memorise key information. Once again, try and keep the information concise and try and get someone to test you. I got my boyfriend to test me with flashcards for my final history exam at A-Level and ended up getting an A!
Mind maps - very handy for trying to remember specific events etc. Very good for visual learners.
Posters - probably my favourite study method (I also made lots of posters for my history exam, one for each major event or decade). Colour co-ordinating posters is also very helpful! Posters are extremely helpful for visual learners (like myself) because they allow you to be creative.
Sticky notes - people on my university course laugh at me for how much I use sticky notes but they don’t seem to realise how effective they are! When they spend ages searching for a specific part of a novel we’re studying, I can just flick through my sticky notes! (I like to use them as bookmark stickers because there is lots of room to write down information).
Highlighting - I am a big fan of highlighting (I get very emotional when my favourite coloured highlighters run out…). However, it can easily be done wrong. Overhighlighting is no help when it comes to studying/revising as you won’t be able to pick out the most important information. If you aren’t great at limiting your highlighting, try colour coding!
Annotating - annotating is similar to highlighting. It is important to annotate the most important information so when you go back and study you can find the most important information first. I like to use different colours when annotating.
Summary foldable - similar to flashcards but also helpful! You can use one piece of A4 paper and try and condense as much information as possible. This is extremely helpful for exams!
Rewriting notes - very helpful for memorising information. However, remember that effectiveness comes before prettiness! Yes, pretty notes are fun, but you want to actually be able to read the information you are writing down.
Watch videos - watching videos is very useful when you don’t understand a theory. Also, when you’re feeling too tired to study you can simply watch a video (this is better than nothing!).

In honor of my 5th semester in a row of all A’s (hell yeah boiiiii) I’m going to make this post. I don’t know how I did it because I am honestly so lazy.
Grades are reflective of your work ethic and your ability to strategize, not your intelligence.
Be real with yourself. Are you sure you are ready to commit to perfect grades? Are you ready to work, day in and day out, when it sucks and classes are boring and hard? Are you ready to feel satisfied for all of the hard work you put in? If the answer is yes, congratulations. You are on your way to becoming a straight-A student.
Prioritize classes. Not every class requires the same amount of work, and you should find out the hardest classes early on in the semester. These will take the most time, and you will have to spend extra time and effort to get a good grade. When choosing classes, make sure you will be able to handle them. Make sure you will be able to ace all of them, at the same time. That being said, don’t shy away from hard classes. You have to challenge yourself. Take a few AP’s. They are worth it.
Make friends with teachers/professors, especially the ones that teach hard subjects. I am very close with my chemistry professor, and this has proved invaluable because I am able to get free tutoring, as well as a great recommendation letter for college apps.
Have other goals. You need to do something that is not studying to keep you productive. I would highly recommend joining a sports team or club. I exercise (usually running and weightlifting) at least 2 hours a day, usually more. Playing 2 sports made me more healthy, social, and productive. Running calms me down, and weightlifting makes me feel strong. Do whatever makes you feel good, as long as it’s healthy.
Learn to manage time well. How do I play 2 sports, get straight A’s, have a studyblr, and have time to spare? The answer is that I take care of myself well. I go to bed at 10:30 or 11 each night so I can get 7 ish hours of sleep. I do homework during lunch or in class so I don’t do it at home.
Slack off. Yep. I said it. I complete assignments strategically, spending the most time on things worth the most points. Things that will only take a few minutes can occasionally be done in class right before the teacher is collecting homework. I have done this all too often. That being said, small assignments really do add up so make sure you do an acceptable job and turn them in on time.
Turn something in. It is ok to sometimes slack off in quality, but if something is due, you better turn something in. Something is better than nothing. Getting extensions on assignments for no reason will make the teacher think you are lazy, or don’t care about their class. Every single essay and worksheet does not have to be your best work, but make sure you fill the basic assignment requirements, and it should be enough.
Extra. Credit. Some classes don’t offer this, but if they do, just freaking do it man. Knowing you can miss an assignment because you did extra credit earlier is the best feeling, especially when doing that assignment would have meant losing sleep.
Plan (sort of). I have a bullet journal where I write important assignments down. As I said, there are some assignments not worth your time that you can half-ass. The ones I write down are the ones I need to do well. If you write down every. last. assignment. you will burn out and stop planning altogether.
Sometimes, go above and beyond. You know that subject you really like? With an awesome teacher? Spend time on it. Make your project extra beautiful, and read ahead in the textbook. Watch video lectures online, and maybe even make a studyblr post about it. Your extra work might not be turned in for credit, but it will make you feel a whole lot more knowledgeable on the subject. Do this for classes you hate, too. Maybe it’s not as bad as you think it is. The extra effort might allow you to see the beauty in a subject you used to despise.
Be real with yourself (again). This past semester, I had a B+ for a few months in a subject I really love. I wasn’t mad, and I didn’t stress about it, because, honestly? It doesn’t really matter. Eventually I brought the grade up again, but it would be fine to me either way.
An Introduction to Logic Gates.
A simple introduction to logic gates, covering transistors, Boolean Algebra, AND OR NOT NOR NAND XOR and XNOR gates and how to build a very basic computer.
Logic Gates!
Not - “0 in, 1 out; 1 in, 0 out. Whatever you put in, you don’t get out.”
Buffer - “If you take the not of not, you get what you put in - 0 in, 0 out, 1 in, 1 out.”
NAND - “Both inputs must be brought up to 1 to lower the output to 0.”
AND - “If you negate the result of Nand, you get And. Both inputs must be brought up to 1 to raise the output up to 1.”
OR - “If you not both inputs, and then Nand them together, you get Or. If either input is raised to 1, the output raises to 1.”
NOR - “Negate both inputs, nand them together, and negate the output.”
XOR - “Xor is complicated - The large weight ands the inputs together. The medium weights negate the inputs, but are pulled up by the large one when both are 1. When you nor those together, you get Xor “
XNOR - “This is comparatively simple - just negate the output of Xor, and you’re there!”

more unconventional study tips
- if you drank coffee while revising, drink coffee before the exam. if you didn’t, don’t
- listen to one type of music (genre/artist) while revising a certain topic, listen to that music on your way to the exam
- wear the same colour nail polish/perfume when revising and when you’re in the exam
- keep your sleep schedule the same. try to get 8 hours while revising and also the night before the exam. don’t stay up cramming and exhaust yourself
- it’s better to do one hour every day in the week leading up to the exam than 7 hours in one day the day before
these tips can help trigger your memory, they sound weird but they really do work
Logic gates

Logic gates are essentially the bare bones of computers. I would describe it as adding logic to a circuit.
It’s common knowledge that computers function off binary. Now I will not explain binary here although you need to know there are two values, 1 and 0. In computing, 1 stands for current flowing through, and 0 standing for little current, as no current would be a tiny problem. Even though 0 meaning no current is a misconception it still inspired the infamous on/off symbol, which shows both 1 and 0.
In a logic gate, there are inputs, and there are outputs as a result of the logic gate. They achieve this by using resistors, transistors and other components for which explaining will be left to another time.
I will have a chart below of the gates and their values. Let us take an example of the OR gate. If two inputs are 0, then it outputs to 0. If any or both of the inputs are 1, it outputs one.
The chart showing the values is called a truth table. Here are some other widely used examples of logic gates and the corresponding truth tables

This is a presentation we made concerning logic gates. They can be tricky to remember so you have to keep reminding yourself what each one is.

Microprocessors translate ADC to DAC, which can then be sent to a sensor to do a task.
In a fish tank, for example, the temperature data (input) will be collected as ADC and sent to the microprocessor to be translated from ADC to DAC (process) so the microprocessor can send data in DAC to the heater to increase or decrease the temperature as need.

Control Systems are made up of software and hardware that controls other equipment.
They can be "dedicated" systems that perform a set of pre-programmed instructions, or computer controlled systems that react to input from sensors.
Most control systems use feedback cycles to tell them how to behave. This is when information from a sensor (e.g. temperature sensor) is used to decide how to use an output device (e.g. heater).
The output device will have some sort of effect on the next reading from the sensor - e.g. switching on the heater will raise the temperature at the temperature sensor.
hey everyone! I recently finished GCSEs and now I am moving onto A-levels. I thought I’d write up some tips that I followed that may help other students! :))
1. Start your revision as early as possible, even if it’s only simple revision.
I started my revision in September and I’m so glad i did whereas a lot of people in my year didn’t start until Christmas/Easter.
2. Following on from the last point, create a revision/study schedule.
There are plenty on tumblr but I made my own (im pretty sure i posted a pic about it). I didn’t strictly stick to my schedule but I used it mainly to keep on track and to make sure I worked on every subject.
3. Past papers.
They are going to be your best friend and they are one of the most valuable sources of revision. Try to answer the paper without any help (and try to stick to the time limit) and correct it using the mark scheme and a different pen afterwards. It also helps if you do the same paper a couple of times throughout the school year because you can see how you improve!
4. If your teacher offers you extra work or revision sessions, take the chance!
It always helps to do some targeted revision with your teachers.
5. Vary your revision.
Personally, I liked to do flashcards, answering questions/past papers and summary post it notes (try to summarise a topic into a few bullet points onto a post it note). Try different techniques to find out what works for you.
6. Also, plan your revision.
I used my planner to write down what I needed to do e.g. Monday: 2014 past paper for french & mark it etc
7. Make it colourful.
Use different colour highlighters and pens to make your revision more memorable or even to colour code each topic.
8. Drink lots of water and eat lots of protein.
You need to stay hydrated if you’re going to be working all day and (a very good tip from @reviseordie) eat something like scrambled eggs on toast (which I did) so you have lots of protein.
9. Take regular breaks.
It’s better to do 25 minutes work with a 5 minutes break instead of 2 hours straight work.
10. Finally, try your best.
If you know you have worked hard and put the effort in, then you deserve too results. However, if you don’t achieve what you expect, please don’t be disheartened because you couldn’t have done anything else.
