"  The captain answered in his usual rather monotone tone of voice .  "But women who are intelligent enough to educate themselves do interest me."  Intelligent women were a breed far too rare in a court were their personalty was determined by the way they dressed and which name they carried.  Milady was such a woman, blessed with both intellect and a fair appearance.  The two things that was needed to fool any weak-minded man.
