nope! my name is sarah :)

wishbone deluxe, april 24th. “the best” out in one week.

over the past year of releasing and touring wishbone, i felt like there were a few last things i wanted to say. some pages left to turn. some wishes left to be made. so i hid away in my bedroom, venue basements, hotels, and wrote wishbone deluxe.

these songs are not “songs that didn’t make the album”. they’re all new songs written after wishbone, feelings i could only reach in the aftermath of the album’s release. feelings i couldn’t express in the moment as i wrote wishbone— because i was still very much in the middle of the storm that inspired it. these songs aren’t missed pages, they’re the next chapter.

as i continue the wishbone world tour this year, i hope these songs can continue the story for you, as they have for me. i love these songs. i love this tour. i love wishbone.

opinion on the vodka cranberry snippet?

Hi! I included the snippet for those who haven't heard it, and I love it! To be honest, I like it more than This Song, although I also love that too. On first listen, the instrumental in the background - especially the guitar - reminded me of the last chorus of betty by Taylor Swift, which is another song I love. I also want to note that I love Conan's songs that sound more upbeat (than usual) yet have super depressing lyrics. So excited for the new album!

wishbone, the album. august 15th. “this song” out in a week.

over the past two years, i’ve been secretly writing songs. after shows in the basements of the venues, in the sheets of my hotel beds, in narrow gaps between tours— i’d come back home and write all the things i felt nobody wanted to hear. maybe even the things i didn’t want people to hear.

i didn’t tell my friends. i didn’t tell my label. after all, i didn’t know i was making anything, and i had no plan to release any of it. but over time, i began to feel something i’d never felt before. i started to need the music. i listened in airports, in long cab trips, blaring in the shower. in heartbreak, then in joy. i started to play it for my friends, and they started to need it too. in car ride requests with the windows down, in a split pair of wired headphones on the subway home. it became an egregiously niche soundtrack to our own lives in real time, singing just for us.

it felt like the music was reminding me who i am, at an experimental time in my twenties where “who i am” had no definition at all. my driftwood childhood in texas. my lucid summers in london. my blue striped bed sheets in my college apartment. i played the songs to the very first person i’d ever made music with, @thedanielnigro, and i began to record. i didn’t know why i was recording, i just was. i didn’t know what story i was telling, i was just living in it. slowly i started to see myself in full picture. the slivers of myself i’d always been, but never faced. the songs i’d always been writing, but never singing.

before i knew it i was surrounded by an album.

that album is wishbone.

NEW CONAN GRAY SONG

I KNOW IT'S SO SAD WHO LET HIM SAY "the years have passed but you laugh exactly the same." I saw the album cover and no lie thought "this is gonna be sad as hell" and I was RIGHT. Alley Rose remains the superior sad song though (I don't care what he says, it is NOT a love song)
