the journey: path of conocimiento according to anzaldúa
“seven stages of conocimiento:
el arrebato…rupture, fragmentation… an ending, a beginning
nepantla…torn between ways
the Coatlicue state…desconocimiento and the cost of knowing
the call…el compromiso…the crossing and conversion
putting Coyolxauhqui together…new personal and collective "stories”
the blow-up…a clash of realities
shifting realities…acting out the vision or spiritual activism
ritual…prayer…blessing…for transformation"
-this bridge we call home: radical visions for transformation
literally crying bc we finally read a piece called “jews in the us: the rising costs of whiteness” by melanie kaye/kantrowitz that addresses antisemitism and the erasure of jewishness (as ethnicity, as religion, as culture, and more) in the constructed white/color binary. i’m not sure anyone w power in this program has read it, and if they have, it clearly didn’t stick bc we’re gonna go right back to ignoring and subsuming jews into categories that don’t map onto us, but this feels like a lifeline in my increasing sense of alienation from this program

wow!
disabled women of color are capable and deserve to be recognized and respected
Women, we’re nurturers, that’s what’s expected of us. We have our children, we have our husbands if we’re lucky enough and our partners whoever. But we have to find personal fulfillment. We have to follow our dreams. We have to say ‘I can do that, and I should be allowed to do that.’

Mary Oliver, "Blue Iris." Devotions
“I want to think again of dangerous and noble things. I want to be light and frolicsome. I want to be improbable beautiful and afraid of nothing, as though I had wings.”
— Mary Oliver, from “Starlings in Winter”
when mary oliver said “so this is the world. i’m not in it. it is beautiful” and “i wanted to know, whoever i was, i was alive for a little while” and “mostly, i want to be kind” and “i want to say all my life i was a bride married to amazement” and “you only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves” and “someday we’ll live in the sky” and “i want to love this world as thought it’s the last chance I’m ever going to get to be alive” and “have you too finally figured out what beauty is for? and have you changed your life?”
“I thought the earth remembered me, / she took me back so tenderly,”
— Mary Oliver, from Sleeping In The Forest
“Almost every woman I have ever met has a secret belief that she is just on the edge of madness, that there is some deep, crazy part within her, that she must be on guard constantly against ‘losing control’ — of her temper, of her appetite, of her sexuality, of her feelings, of her ambition, of her secret fantasies, of her mind.”
— Elana Dykewomon, “Notes for a Magazine,” Sinister Wisdom #36 (via balletmuse)
— TONI MORRISON, from ‘Beloved’.

“I’d say go to hell, but I never want to see you again.”
— Sylvia Plath
