Songs I Liked Recently (and why)
I know a lot of good music and I am always discovering more good music. This is something I am egotistical about. I am always cultivating and upgrading my ability to appreciate all the beauty of the world. I am so happy to be living in a time when music can be recorded digitally.
Anyways these are the songs I liked the most recently.
Paris Texas - Everybody's Safe Until - It is a despair bop about suicidal, violent, and destructive urges, mixed with isolation and paranoia, that is so catchy! I love how there are multiple stanzas that sound so different, but they are layered over each other, and each one makes you want to dance! It expresses the feeling of not caring about anything, acting carefree as horrible thoughts scroll endlessly through your head.
Shockwire - I Drive The Speed Limit Cause There's Drugs In The Car - A nutritionally complete and mathematically perfect song, fulfilling all your needs for good music.
Telephunken - West Coast, East Coast - It is full of the feeling of going really fast and feeling badass. Easily one of the most addicting songs I've ever heard. I know it's about an expensive car, but it makes me want to rollerblade at a rave or something.
Flobots - Fight with Tools - someone on Tumblr recommended a song by this band to me, and I started listening to more of their music. The powerful, driving chorus to this song is so moving and inspiring with a beautiful message. I love the instrumental bridge that sustains these high emotions and the outro that feels in my mind that it echoes the Beatitudes from the Bible and socialist/labor rights slogans at the same time
Delilah Bon- I Wish A Bitch Would - anthem about murdering rapists, the vocalist pulls the screams out of the depths of her stomach seeming to empty out her lungs, with crunchy and textured instrumentals reminiscent of corrugated metal. Even if you are completely pacifistic, these powerful emotions are so yummy to evoke; yes, violence WOULD feel good, wouldn't it?
Norman Sann - Who Lied - The rhymes sway and slither with the instrumentation, giving a feeling of stalling and backtracking being lost in one's thoughts of despair and questioning then powerfully accosted with the necessity of realizing the truth. It delivers the message in an impressive way. But on top of the delivery, some of the phrasings and poetic techniques are more delightful to me than they should be (the 'CBD oil and lotion' stanza always makes me smile)
Kneecap - Liars Tale - blistering insults toward politicians and fierce anger but so catchy you have no choice but to nod your head. They rap in irish gaelic which is really cool. and now that I'm looking at the music video it has zombie margaret thatcher (???) cool
Xican- Flor Antigua - the slow, strutting beat of the drums is so intoxicating and flows with the rapping so beautifully and the female vocalist has a rich and lovely voice. I didn't understand the lyrics very much but when seeing the translation they are also really cool and poetic
Ryan Oakes and Missio - Supernatural - the low, wallowing growl of the "something stronger than lethal" refrain is so delicious. i think the artists' energies complement each other beautifully and the verses have very different tones that relay between each other fast but it all flows together, really nice
