Crochet is all over fashion again this spring. Reminder that crochet cannot be done by machine, so someone had to make it by hand. There is literally no fast fashion brand that is paying a fair wage to the artisans who are doing that work, even taking local wages in other countries into account. And you can tell that by the pricing. I crochet faster than most people I know, and a jacket always takes me at least 20 hours. And dresses take 30-50. The smaller the yarn, the more hours it'll take to make something.

There are tons of crocheters on Etsy setting their own prices. Check there before you shop Target or Express or any other place selling on a rack.

One of the reasons I’m pissed off with the complacency of cis men is that they are literally just watching women’s bodies become objects. You are happy to watch porn of us, but not support us.

You’ve allowed sex workers to be thrown under the bus and onto the streets where they are being harmed. You demand sex workers to work for free, or call them whores (well duh!). You send sexual messages and dick pics to women via platforms that are built to protect men; reporting these messages is either not possible, or nothing is done to their accounts. Whereas we are banned if we say a phrase that rhymes with “ten are mash”.

I’ve already seen reports of cleavage shots being flagged and lingerie posts (including editorial and campaign shots which will likely have been on billboards) being deleted. It’s already hard to do my job as we are banned from using retargeting advertising and Facebook ads will often reject images of JUST lingerie for “cleavage”. I have a sinking feeling that in a short amount of time, all lingerie will fall under the category of “sexual”, targeting adults won’t matter anymore, and everything we’ve built will be for nothing. The only thing that gives me any hope is that this new generation is far more open-minded, but it will be at least another 15 years until those people become CEOs and politicians, and by then it might be too late.
