I love the Legend of Zelda (BotW/TotK are the main hyperfixation right now, but I also love the other games).
This blog started as a TOH blog. You may still see some of that floating around from time to time. TOH still holds a special place in my heart.
I like to draw and sometimes I work up enough courage to post it on here. I've also been trying out writing lately.
My fic is You Are Unbreaking, Though Quaking on ao3, a post-TotK AU exploring Link and Zelda's relationship and how they come to terms with everything that happened to them. I am monumentally slow at updating, but I promise I am working on it.
I mostly just try to stay positive and kind. Sometimes I'll complain about things, but I generally try to avoid hating and doomerism. Please don't bring that here.
I firmly believe that Zelda and Link are soulmates in every incarnation. Not always romantically. I donāt even think they always end up as friends. However, due to the cyclical nature of the series and how they are reincarnated over and over, I think that their souls are just intrinsically connected to each other after interacting for eon after eon. For example, in TotK, the item descriptions of Light Dragon parts and the Hyrule Compendium description of the Light Dragon herself mention that they feel familiar and comforting to Link. This isnāt inherently romantic by any means (even though I choose to read it this way), but it does imply that they have some sort of connection to each other, at least in BotW/TotK. Iām not sure if itās implied in other games (Iām only very slowly making my way through the series), but I like to think that it is still there.
On the other hand, it is an explicit connection in Echoes of Wisdom and thatās part of why the idea of Zelink in this game is so appealing to me. Their connection is very much a literal one. Zelda spends the game channeling Linkās spirit through the sword fighter form. Obviously, the game doesnāt explore how this works or how it would feel for Zelda and Link, but it leaves room for theories and I love coming up with random headcanons :)
I love to think that they can feel each otherās presence while Zeldaās in sword fighter form. Zelda can feel someone guiding her through motions sheās never done before and she should be struggling with, but this someone is calm gives her the courage to at least try, and this someone is so practiced that she hardly ever fails. Link, alone and scared in the Still World, can feel someone beside him, someone fighting for him, and it lets him know he isnāt completely alone in this and someone is coming to help him. They finally get to actually meet each other, and the other feels so familiar itās almost like theyāve known each other for years. This connection let them know each other and understand each other in a way no one else could, on top of everything they went through with the Still World and Null. Again, this isnāt inherently romantic, but I like to interpret it this way. They are bound to each other, but they can choose to go their separate ways if they want to. And yet, sometimes this connection makes it hard to leave.
I really want to write a fic about this eventually.
(Right after cutscene 12(?), I imagine he had the habit to hum lullabies around her after they grew more comfortable around each other, which reminds her of her mother)
The totk ending is so complicated for me. Would it have been so much more powerful had there been lasting effects of the story? Yes for sure. Does the missed potential upset me? Yes. Do I also love the ending we got and get very happy when I watch it? Also yes
Okay so as i promised in this post, i did the route Zelda and Link made during the cataclysm in my BOTW run to see how many time it took them to arrive to Blatchery plain. I also added Link and Zeldaās individual routes after Linkās death (thanks to those who let me know that info is in creating a champion).
Anyway, here some clarifications before i start:
ā All the timestamps are according to the hours in game
ā I chose Linkās speed and used my horse taking the canon lore as reference
ā All my personal takes will be in orange
ā English is not my first language so forgive all the typos lmao
ā This was made for fun and is definitely not 100% accurate. Iām just giving the info so i can put yāall angst machines to work
Thatās it! Letās begin hehehhehehehe
Route 1
Start: Lanayru Road - East Gate
Finish: Blatchery plain - Central Hyrule
According to memory #15 the cataclysm returned at sunset, so i chose 7:00 pm as the beginning time.
I assumed Link and Zelda arrived by horse to East gate as is pretty far from Hyrule castle, so I started the route riding Zeldaās horse (the white and blonde one you can find) at max speed.
I arrived to Kakariko village at 9:00 pm, walked through the village as you canāt run with your horse in it, and went max speed again
Arrived to wetland stable at 00:00 am, i could have left my horse here, but this stable wasnāt here/was probably destroyed already by the cataclysm, so i continued to go by horse.
Crossed Rabonae bridge and tried to get to castle town at 1:30 am, and i say tried because 3 guardians and a buff yiga were waiting for me, exactly at this point:
I had to drop my horse here so it didnāt get shot by guardians (which is probably what happened in canon, it would explain why they donāt have their horses anymore by memory #16. RIP horses)
I defeated those guardians but for timeās sake, as it was advancing pretty fast while i fought, i didnāt get any closer to castle town and started to run for my life using all of Linkās stamina (i have all 3 circles) until i got to memory #16ās forest at 6:00 am. I actually repeated this segment of the route to see if it could have taken any less but i got the same result.
Here you can interpret it whatever you want tbh, they could have spent all night fighting guardians in castle town or have run away more early in the night and spent the night in the forest (which is my personal fav) after Zeldaās breakdown. Either way the entire night was spent around that area.
11 hours have passed since the cataclysm started
After i came out of the forest I started to go at normal speed (the one were you donāt spend stamina). In my original plan i was just gonna walk through the designated path until arriving to the dueling peaks, however, in creating a champion I noticed they actually crossed Horwell bridge, took a shortcut and CROSSED THE SQUABBLE RIVER USING THE ROCKS AS A BRIDGE.
The pictures are:
1. My original route
2. The route in creating a champion
3. Location of Squabble river in the map
4. Screenshots of the rock path in Squabble river
WHY DID THEY DO THAT, NOW THEYāRE ALL WET ISTG
Anyway I crossed the Squabble river by 11:35 am and arrived to the dueling peaks at 2:00 pm. I went through the dueling peaks at normal speed since in Zelda notes, she says that they helped the people evacuating from castle town to hide between the mountains, so it shouldāve taken a little longer to get across them.
I crossed the Dueling peaks completely by 5:35 pm and got to Blatchery plain at 6:50 pm, almost 24 hours since the start of the cataclysm.
Now, in memory #17 itās shown that Link dies at night, so here you can add a few hours of just fighting guardians or just say it wasnāt actually night and just a very cloudy, rainy day lol. For the next two routes i will be using 6:50-7:00 pm as the start time tho.
Route 2
Start: Blatchery plain - Central Hyrule
Finish: Hyrule castle
The next ones are way shorter so please bear with me jsjdjsjsjdj
I ran at max speed (i think, i did this some days ago and my memory is awful) and arrived to Kakariko village at 11:00 pm.
And here youāll have to forgive me because i cheated and i gave Zelda a horse in Kakarikoā¦
My girl is NOT walking all that okay?!!!?! THE WORLD IS ENDING WE NEED SOME SPEED!!!! No Kakariko villager would have let her go on foot i am correct and you know it.
Okay so, by going on horse at max speed i passed by woodland stable at 4:30 am and arrived to the entrance of great Hyrule forest at 6:00 am. I left my horse and went at normal speed until i arrived to Korok forest at 7:00 am (i had the path previously marked in my map)
No she did not get lost, the koroks guided here (source: trust me)
I got out of great Hyrule forest, got on the horse and went at max speed straight to Hyrule castle, i only got to Boneyard bridge at 10:00 am as i didnāt want my horse to die tho, but Zelda should have arrived to the entrance of Hyrule castle by 11:00 am - 12:00 pm, approximately 40 hours since the cataclysm started.
Route 3
Start: Blatchery plain - Central Hyrule
Finish: Shrine of resurrection - Great Plateau
This is the shortest one as the sheikahs absolutely speedran their way to the shrine of resurrection. So i really donāt have much to say.
Going on foot at max speed, I arrived at the entrance of the great plateau at 3:00 am. Here I cheated once again as the entrance is blocked, which I suppose it wasnāt when the cataclysm happened, so i teleported to the Oman Au shrine, which is right next to the original entrance.
I got to the shrine of resurrection at exactly 6:00 am, approximately 35 hours since the return of the cataclysm.
Link was dead for a minimum of 11 hours

Yippeeeeee thatās all!!! I needed to get this question out of my brain and i will definitely be drawing some scenarios that i imagined while doing this :DDDDDD

There needs to be more post 'link speedruns killing ganon as soon as he wakes up any% nmg' fics. Because on top of the inherent hilarity of any speedrun fic AND the inherent angst of the noble and measured knight link reduced to a bare chested gremlin with barely his name to his name and no knowledge of how thin the ice of amnesia lies over the arctic waters of... Everything?
It's also just an OUTRIGHT INSULT to all the champions and rhoam especially, the way link woke up weak and feeble and with absolutely no resources and then proceeded to carve a bloody unrelenting path through every single one of the monsters that killed them at the height of their power AND THEN massacred ganon without any help from the divine beasts they'd poured decades of their resources and time into recovering just for the chance to stand against ganon. And link didn't even need them. Not even a little bit. The first time he touched the ground of hyrule proper was to mount a wild horse to chase down the holy light zelda gifted him from on high to skewer the great calamity like a pin cushion.
Literally what was the point of all that work. All that effort and money and time meant to try and play support for the hero and not only does he turn out to not need it, but he also cleans up every single mess you all left and failed at. Your one job, your 100 year struggle and grief, and he mops it up himself as an aside to his REAL job of single handedly murking the legendary evil.
24 hours ago zelda was counting down the minutes until her knight woke up and they could maybe make another stab at ganon once he'd recuperated and recovered himself enough to draw the master sword again. To build up to a grand finale by accumulating favour and working his way through the divine beasts so they can finally fulfill their purpose and free the trapped spirits. And now she's blinking in the sunlight as the abruptly freed ghosts stand in shock over the castle and link is within touching distance eating a handful of apple.
And he does! He goes from bodyguard to bodyguard-friend to boyfriend to husband! Took over 100 years but you canāt rush this kind of thing. Has to happen naturally. #relationshiphacks
