Hello! Got a question about Evelyne and her crew of vipers.
You mentioned before that they did talk poorly about Aerys and Rhaegal, that their wives and Queen Myriah knew. Why are they still allowed in court after this? And why does Queen Myriah still sees Evelyne in a good light after making fun of her sons, why does she keep them as her ladies-in-waiting? Also, when Anicia arrives in the Red Keep, and these women start shit with her, wouldn't Baelor try to protect her and to get rid of them, in the sense of making them leave?
I don't know much about court life and I don't watch historical dramas, but based on what we know of asoiaf world, the crown isn't usually so passive to slights( except King Viserys, but he was weak and he couldn't stand up for his family). I don't know if I explained my confusion clearly, English is not my first language.
okay so i was kind of spoiling future dynamics when I replied to that ask 😭 but for now, only evelyne and aelinor don’t really get along.
aelinor is one of the most underrated characters in this era. every time i read fics she’s either completely absent or barely exists. which i get, because most people are focused on baelor, his brothers, his parents, or his children if they’re alive in the story. but i feel like there’s so much potential with her.
the way i see aelinor, she’s someone who threw herself into religion bc she had nothing else left. her marriage to aerys isn’t abusive or hateful, but it’s loveless. they respect each other, but aerys is far more interested in books, prophecies and his own world than in being a husband. meanwhile, aelinor wants children more than anything, and year after year she watches everyone around her have what she desperately wishes for. her sisters-in-law have children, even people in seemingly unhappy marriages have children, and she gets nothing. even Lady Alys get to have her set of children with the ever strange but sweet rhaegel.
so i think that has made her bitter in some ways. not cruel, not malicious, but difficult. she’s someone carrying a lot of disappointment and grief that she rarely expresses openly.
which is why she and lady Evelyne clash. because evelyne presents herself as patient, respectable, and kind, and most people buy into that image. but aelinor has overheard things. she’s heard the way evelyne talks about aerys and rhaegel behind closed doors, the gossip, the judgment, the little comments she makes when she thinks nobody important is listening.
the difference is that aelinor doesn’t tell anyone. she keeps everything to herself. she’s already isolated enough at court, and she has no interest in getting involved in more drama. so for now, she’s basically the only person who has seen that side of evelyne and understands that her public image isn’t the full picture.
So Alys is going to figure it out later, but not yet. myriah is also starting to have some suspicions, especially after the recent chapters, but overall she still likes evelyne for now
