speirton is probably the ship i'm most interested by within the bofb fandom (apart from babe/bill) because it's so compelling within the narrative (fictional soldiers only, obviously). there's lipton, who is presented as the man who cares for the rest of the company, but we see that there's a side of him that's attracted to the idea of danger and lives for these explosions, and speirs, who's presented as a cold-blooded killer, yet we see that he has a caring, protective side. they're "opposites" on the surface, i guess, but not in actuality. lipton spends the majority of the breaking point looking after everyone, and along comes speirs to look after him for the rest of it. the church scene is probably the best example of all of the above. i think they play off each other in a way that interests me so much.
