Tip: Don't go out with flat makeup! Even a little bit of shadowing and highlighting isn't hard and just blend it out like a motherfucker! It makes your look more life like, even if you're doing a dead ass dancestor, it still makes your makeup look better, i wouldn't over do blush and things like that either!
It really does help!! Contouring helps too.
Also even if you're doing a kid and you don't think you need makeup, put makeup on anyways! You'll look 200 times better, I promise.
Right, this isn't that much of a horror story rather than a bit of a misunderstanding. I was cosplaying Vriska at a popular con, and I was sitting in line for the rave. Now, keep in mind that it was noisy there, there were people talking all around. This guy, around 20-30 comes up to me, and starts talking in an obnoxious, high-pitched voice, looking back on it, I think he was doing Octopimp's impression of Tavros. I was trying to make out what he was saying, something about "Fixing my legs"(Co
(t’d), But again, I couldn’t make out what he was saying. After attempting to explain that I couldn’t hear him, he said something to the extent of “Oh, I was doing Tavros, most people get it, you must be stupid”, walking off before I could respond.
Wow that still sounded sort of rude to say to you. It really isn’t nice to just say that to someone, especially if a lot of people are talking and it is generally very noisy.
Tip for wig cutting: Don't cut straight across, and if you have like a boxer cutter razor, those are really nice for layers and avoiding really choppy looking things/making the look a bit smoother.
Yeah, never cut straight across. It won’t look nice at all, and even if you don’t do that, just cut horizontally until you get the look you want.
Tip: Instead of buying any kind of fur, try looking up the yarn tail tutorials, it's a lot cheaper and really easy to do!
It’s a lot cheaper, especially if the fur is coming from a fabric store.
Tip: Always look for eyeliner that's the blood color of your troll you're cosplaying to put on your waterline, if you can't find any, then make sure you go to dollar stores/if you put your brush in water and make it moist it spreads on easier/you can always mix it in vaseline too!
I haven’t heard the vaseline/water thing so I can’t say if it’s any good, but that’s a good tip!
If you can’t find any in stores, there’s probably sellers online who will have the color you’re looking for!
Tip/Trick: I don't know if you have this one, but fabric paint is also something you can paint your arms and chest with, google it up! I don't recommend it for beginners though!
I’ve heard a lot of things about using fabric paint for cosplaying a troll or anyone else with non-human colored skin, but I wouldn’t fully recommend it since it’s not exactly meant to be on (a lot) of human skin for long periods of time like how face paint is supposed to.
If people really need cheap makeup, I can recommend a few places where I have either had friends purchase affordable makeup from or have myself. Using anything other than PAX or face/body paint for grey makeup isn’t advised.
The best brands of makeup I’d recommend is Mehron and Kryolan only. I don’t recommend Ben Nye or Snazaroo for a few reasons. But, this is my personal opinion on which ones I find better.
Trick: If you tape and tin foil your horns then paper mache them, they're really light, you can hot glue them onto bobby pins so you don't have a big dumb shiny headband!

Tip: Sometimes sewing on your sign to your shirt/dress/w/e is better than paint
I’ve never tried this but I’ve heard great things from it!
Tip: If you're in grey facepaint and you know you're gonna fuck it up by drinking something, straws are your best friends wow.
Plus there’s less of a chance with spilling!
Don’t be like me at QCK I had to re-apply all of the makeup on my chin when I accidentally spilled a drink on myself.
Tip: pUT ALL YOUR MAKEUP IN LITTLE BAGGIES DON'T LIKE IT ROAM AROUND FREELY IN YOUR BAG
I can honestly second this it’s a REALLY good tip.
Plus it will save you from ruining things if they accidentally spill.
What are some good cons to go to if you want to see a lot of other Homestucks?
Oh I’m not quite sure aside from the ones around here! But generally bigger cons (AX, Anime Boston, AAC, Otakon, big ones) are ones where a lot of Homestucks gather. Then again, small cons have a lot of Homestucks too, the two smaller cons around here have had a lot of Homestucks!
If there are a lot of Homestucks in the area, there’s a better chance of meeting them at cons.
Are you guys still running? Anyway, I've just been looking for a blog to ask about how wary I should be around homestucks at a con. I know that not everyone is a creeper who is going to gloom me/ruin my cosplay, but how cautious should I be?
Oh, yeah sorry! It’s just the one single mod who was running this got very overwhelmed and hasn’t been able to find time with this blog, especially with running a bunch of other blogs. I run a good number of ask blogs and they take a lot of time, plus, school and all.
Well, if you’re worried I wouldn’t blame you. Depending on who you cosplay (if you cosplay), it varies. I’d generally be wary of Gamzees who constantly honk horns, those ‘lovve me’ Eridans and Cronuses, blahblah all those.
But personally I’d be a bit wary. A lot of the fans are around 13-14 and are brand new to cosplaying some of them, and it’s a ‘oh boy no parents!’ sort of thing. I’ve personally had a lot of great experiences with Homestuck cosplayers for a little over a year and a half of going to cons and meeting them, and having been to about 5 or so different cons. Then again, a few bad ones.
What I’m saying is you shouldn’t worry too much, but be wary of someone who looks a little like someone a bit, uhm, weebish? I’d say. If they start coming on with a ‘glomping’ vibe or if they seem like ‘that Homestuck fan’, I’d be wary and probably try and leave their presence.
I was never alerted to when any of these asks sent (I didn’t even know we had all these asks!) so I hope this isn’t too late.

Need New Mods
Okay so when I posted the original post, here, it was about a week or so before my laptop screen broke so I haven’t been able to get on much since all I have is a shitty family desktop computer and a tablet.
We still need new mods since nobody has applied yet, too, because running this all by myself this year isn’t going to be something I can do. If it happens, it’s going to update very rarely.
I have been popping on and making a huge list of videos for everyone on cosplay tips, how-to’s, tutorials, etc. So it should be out sometime around Christmas.
