Hey y'all. Bad news. Google is getting worse in a very short amount of time. If you haven't already heard, starting July of this year, 2026, Samsung messages will officially close. And they are all pushing android users to download a google messaging app... that isn't great because Google and Israel are in bed together. They have a 1.2 billion dollar contract with google to monitor messaging.
And in September of this year google is rolling out an update that will nonconsensually block every Android app whose developer hasn't registered with Google, signed their contract, paid up, and handed over government ID. Y'all shit's getting worse and worse. If you need to get a new phone avoid these big names. Make sure it ain't in bed with these giants like Google or Apple of you can. More info on this here:
Your phone is about to stop being yours. In September 2026, Google will block every Android app whose developer hasn't registered with them.
Why Tumblr Has Rolled Out ID Verification
UK legislation: Online Safety Act 2023
Brazil legislation: Digital Statute For Children And Adolescents
Apple App Store Age Verification
These are not tumblr specific policies. Tumblr is implementing age verification in response to legislative moves that were made months ago.
Tumblr is a failing social media site that has escaped death multiple times already; they do not have the social cachet to defy state regulatory agencies. We know they won't say no to Apple, either--the porn ban on tumblr was in response to Apple's crackdown on explicit content.
If you did not know this was happening, you were behind the curve. That is fine. You're caught up now. The next step is to link up with people in your country who are working to preserve privacy, to roll back these laws where they exist, and to prevent their passage where they do not. In the US the organization you want is Stop KOSA--in the EU you can start with Fight Chat Control.
Repealing ID verification and blocking chat control will help everyone, especially the most vulnerable. We can push this back, but we cannot get it done through the Feedback form. We have to get it done at the legislative level and lock it down so it cannot be forced upon us. I see lots of anger out there. Good. Put it to use.
Reports of missing children and 'evaporated' bodies reveal a widening pattern of erasure in Gaza, where entire families are killed, lost und
The author cites an estimate from the Palestinian Center for the Missing and Forcibly Disappeared that 2,900 children "disappeared during the war", with 2,700 bodies thought to be trapped under the rubble and the remaining 200 simply missing. Such statistics are in keeping with the modus operandi of the Israeli military, which, according to the official fatality count, has killed more than 72,500 Palestinians in Gaza since the launch of the genocide in 2023, with thousands more still missing and presumed dead under the rubble. United Nations special rapporteur Francesca Albanese warned back in September that the true death toll might already have been more in the vicinity of 680,000.
so, somewhere between 3 and 30% of the population
Speaking of disappearances, an Al Jazeera Arabic investigation revealed in February that at least 2,842 Palestinians had "evaporated" in the Gaza Strip since the start of the war - a phenomenon Gaza's civil defence teams attribute to Israel's use of US-manufactured thermal and thermobaric weapons, which effectively "vaporise" human bodies. The gruesome tally was quickly eclipsed by the deranged US-Israeli war on Iran and wider regional catastrophe, which has monopolised the news for the past two months. But the topic remains as sinisterly relevant as ever. In remarks to Al Jazeera at the time, civil defence spokesperson Mahmoud Basal outlined the process for determining the number of vaporised victims at homes targeted by Israeli strikes: "If a family tells us there were five people inside, and we only recover three intact bodies, we treat the remaining two as 'evaporated' only after an exhaustive search yields nothing but biological traces - blood spray on walls or small fragments like scalps." ... Israel is guilty of the traditional variety of enforced disappearance, as well. Last August, UN experts denounced reports that starving Palestinian civilians - including a child - were being forcibly disappeared from aid distribution sites run by the notorious Gaza Humanitarian Foundation.
... In the case of Israel's "evaporation" of Palestinians in Gaza, it's hard to say whether the knowledge that your loved one has been vaporised is concrete enough to enable eventual closure. After all, there's nothing very concrete about being forcibly vanished without a trace. Indeed, Al Jazeera quotes Palestinian father Rafiq Badran on the almost inconceivable psychological torment that attends Israel's sinister new spin on the theme of enforced disappearance: "Four of my children just evaporated," Badran said, holding back tears. "I looked for them a million times. Not a piece was left. Where did they go?" Now, with regional war raging as the arms industry rakes in big bucks, it has become even easier for global audiences to tune out the unique plight of the Palestinians - which means that the genocide is effectively being disappeared from the spotlight, as well. In the end, of course, the Israeli goal is nothing less than to forcibly disappear the very idea of a Palestinian people. But unfortunately for Israel, its blood-drenched legacy will not be so easily concealed.
Hey by the way if you're an American and you're against the war, it's your duty to call out the shit that is insane and monstrous and wrong.
If someone says something that you know to be wrong, say something. Push back on it. Iran didn't start this war. They haven't been at war with the US for forty seven years. The US didn't have to support Israel's strikes with this kind of escalation (we haven't in the past, in fact Trump hasn't in the past). The Iranian people are not looking to the US as liberators. The Strait of Hormuz was always going to be used tactically in this way, it is absurd to suggest that the Iran would open it because it is the single best method of leverage they have to resist annihilation from a superpower. Bombing civilian infrastructure is a war crime. Saying that an entire culture will be destroyed is genocidal.
There is no moral reason for the US to do this, the reasons that the US is doing this are oil and to destabilize the region. Hubris, cruelty, and a vile old man who wants to give himself a hero's legacy play a part as well.
You should be saying out loud to the people around you "This war is unjust, unnecessary, and cruel, and every reason our leaders are giving us to tell us why we're doing it is a lie."
People should know you feel this way. Some people will feel the same way, and it will be good for you and for them to know that you're not alone. Some people will NOT feel this way and it will be good for them to know that there are people all around them who haven't bought into the violent propaganda of empire.
Simple things to say to push back:
There is no justification for bombing water and power infrastructure for ninety million people; that will kill thousands of civilians and is a war crime.
Iran was bombed while they were negotiating with the countries that bombed them; they were willing to make the agreements requested by the US and Israel before they were bombed.
The Strait was open in February. If the US and Israel hadn't attacked Iran there would have been no reason for Iran to close it.
You can't be an "imminent threat" for forty seven years, so either Trump is lying about the immanency or is lying about Iran being at war with us for half a century.
Canada too. Lean on your local politicians, show up to a protest, it'll take you 2 minutes to send an email! These are human lives on the line.
Nine defendants were on trial on charges related to the July 4 attack on the Prairieland ICE detention center in North Texas.
fucking kangaroo court
I'll admit I haven't been following the Prairieland proceedings as closely as I could have, but I'm actually a bit shocked by the verdict.
The judge is a far-right Trump appointee so this is a horrible but unsurprising miscarriage of justice. This is a case meant to criminalize all antifascist and left-wing protest in the USA as terrorism, and should be a huge wake-up call for any person in the USA. staff platforming one of this site's most rabid zionists isn't exactly unexpected given how photography matthew is one too but it's still rough to watch
a former staff member has pointed out that the @staff blog is only accessed by a very limited number of people, and this post was reblogged by them on Friday after 5pm in the US. and allegedly tunblr doesn't contract out to anywhere with working hours that would make that timing make sense. Photography Matthew 100% logged on to the official staff account outside of work hours to endorse/platform arguably the single most notorious zionist (and racist and islamophobe and ableist and) on this website
it was hard to imagine a more noxious and off-putting all time L from tumblr staff than rolling out a broken update designed to remove the site's most basic functionality and facilitate mass harassment, but platforming prismatic-bell as some kind of userbase ambassador is it. jesus christ the stank of this place
throwing a dart at the top ten most hateful and widely detested users and giving a hall monitor badge to whoever it hits. you could not possibly be more out of touch with your own community
@/prismatic-bell is a zionist among other things so please stop reblogging posts that’s got xir unneeded commentary on it.
xe has done a lot of similarly heinous shit, including recently threatening to doxx an indigenous person and get them fired from their job for the crime of disagreeing with xir in a slightly rude way.
Your opinions on drug users are disgusting and ableist as fuck. I'm a harm reduction volunteer and you literally don't know what you're fuck
it should be noted that prismatic-bell has been criticized and called out a lot for various things but many of these callouts are eventually deleted due to the op facing intense harassment from xir and xir followers. I highly recommend just blocking instead of engaging in any way.
This is the person @/staff are deliberately choosing to platform as spokesperson for all Tumblr users, and I think people need to know that. I know xe’s said a lot of other awful shit, transmisogyny and Islamophobia and whatever else, so if you’ve got more screenshots or other posts compiling it maybe reblog with ‘em, obviously I wouldn’t normally advocate callout-like tactics or whatever but with active endorsement from the site admins we’re not exactly on a level playing field here and people should be aware of exactly what sort of voices are being directly consulted on the future of the site.
fucking lol
Hey all, would you love to have your ideas represented by the "fuck ramadan", "the working class is an unwashed mass" and "are aboriginal australians even homo sapiens" person? Well, don't fret anymore!
Reblogs in a chain now get their own notes
The reblog chain is one of the things that makes Tumblr unlike anywhere else. All the notes on reblogs are attributed to the original post, no matter which branch people actually liked or reblogged. We want to keep encouraging conversations, and give contributors the recognition they deserve.
Soon, you'll be able to like, reblog, or reply to any part of a reblog chain, and that note will go to that reblog's author. Each reblog will have its own counts, instead of one aggregated number from every version of the post. And yes, you’ll be able to like multiple posts in one chain.
If a reblog doesn't add anything, the love flows up to the last person in the chain who did. Your post doesn't lose notes just because people spread it quietly.
Past notes will stay on the original post — we're only changing what happens from here on out. Retroactively re-attributing all of them would be... a lot.
This is just the beginning. More changes are coming as we keep building this out – stay tuned!
This is horrible I can't see the number of notes on my posts at all without adding up everything in the chain
Cursed cursed cursed evil evil evil
This is a terrible idea. Horrible.
EXTREMELY BAD HOLY FUCK.
This would kill the entire point of the reblog chain. Staff, please, don't do this. It will transform the reblog chain in just plain twitter quotes.
Seriously, this is a tumblr-killer feature. This breaks the most fundamental way tumblr is different from any other social network. This makes tumblr just another blueskytwitterthreads. Or worse: An unfederated mastodon clone.
Please, stop this. Please, don't roll this out.
Please, mutuals, post about this, comment and reblog the original post (while you still can without making it your own quote-post). I don't know if staff is looking or if the feedback would matter, but seriously, this is a terrible change that would kill tumblr as we know it. Please, don't roll it out.
look, I can endure any kind of UI changes that are supposed to help tumblr-rookies to understand how this works. They may be a nuisance, but that's ok, we have x-kit or we can get used to buttons being here or there.
But this. This changes the data architecture. This changes the SINGLE THING that makes tumblr the "... yes and" website. This KILLS THE COLLABORATIVE POSTING THAT MAKES THIS SITE DIFFERENT FROM ALL THE OTHER MEDIA PLATFORMS.
Please, don't do this. Please, don't ship this.
Tumblr has explicitly said in the past that they do not look at comments on their updates posts. You have to PUT IN A SUPPORT TICKET AND SELECT FEEDBACK FROM THE DROPDOWN
Find support resources and documentation for Tumblr
If you send feedback via Tumblr's feedback form (which you SHOULD do), you will get an autoreply telling you to leave a comment on the changes.tumblr.com blog (which you should also do!). Just make sure you're actually doing it on the reblog of this post from changes since, due to their own shitty update, they cannot/will not see the SIXTY THOUSAND NOTES that this update has generated, 99% of which are negative.
The staff post has restricted replies. Contact them directly here:

This whole reblog chain thing is taking away so much from fundraiser and donations posts. Adding support for OP in the post, encouraging people to donate and share, adding verification information - all of that takes away notes from the original poster. They won't know how many people care, how far their post is reaching.
I'm glad I've set up a system to add verification information in the tags and it can still go in the comments, though you have to remember to add it *to the comments of the original post* or it won't be available to everyone who engages with subsequent reblog links.
Even adding a link to the fundraiser bc op forgot to add it will take away the notes. This is truly evil.
