Im weighing in on the discourse. We need to start putting sea monsters on maps again.
this past year, you would have seen me posting about my beloved little tall ship, schooner enterprize. the ship and all the wonderful people who crew her have come to mean so much in my life.
for those who don't know her - enterprize is a 28-year old replica topsail schooner, one of the few traditionally rigged & maintained tall ships in the southern hemisphere, and crewed entirely by volunteers. she exists to provide the experience of traditional seamanship to the public, as well as giving young people the opportunity to grow and challenge themselves on our youth development voyages.
in a little over 2 months, we face eviction from our home berth in docklands, melbourne and the ship (along with the rest of melbourne's heritage fleet) now must find a new home, classroom & workshop.
help us keep the wind in our sails !
please consider donating at donate.generozity.charity/enterprize for fellow victorians, you can support our campaign by writing to the premier / your local member. more information & background can be found at savetheheritagefleet.com
The Black Pearl? I've heard stories. She's been preying on ships and settlements for near ten years. Never leaves any survivors.
PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL (2003) dir. Gore Verbinsky
For every man in your camp, there are thousands somewhere in the West Indies living under the same yoke, chained in fields, pressed on ships, sold into indenture. When they see a sitting governor protected by His Majesty’s Navy deposed by an alliance of pirates and slaves, how many consider joining that fight? How many thousands of men will flock to Nassau, join your ranks, and help you defend it? What does a colonial power do when the men whose toil powers it lay down their shovels, take up swords, and say “no more”? Bring down Nassau, maybe you bring it all down.
