a "human" is actually only one cell of a superorganism known as a Society. and this pisses me off

the superorganism contains all of human knowledge. it is a superorganism because any cell can communicate with any other cell (through the right channels) to pass this knowledge on, but no one human can contain all information. so we have specialist cells that contain specific points of information. we also have specialist cells that make decisions which direct other specialist cells on the upkeep (or lack thereof) of the superorganism's health. normally this is fine for managing a superorganism, but occasionally tumors or hormonal problems can lead to the specialist cells not having the energy they need to share their information, or making decisions that do not fully benefit the superorganism

a Society, archaically, is only supposed to be about 50 cells. the cells are not supposed to have access to the sum total of all human knowledge and human problems. however, over the past ten thousand years, many disparate Societies have merged into a single Society with approximately eight billion cells. and having so many cells present makes it very easy to accidentally grow tumors. such as Money
