Cee knows the sound of genuine pearls hitting marble countertops. That's just how she was brought up. She picks up the necklace to appreciate the way the light hits it, although she doesn't look all that impressed.
"You know, part of this jewellery gift is knowing it cost you something. Or picked it out with me in mind. It sort of... lacks genuine affection knowing you just grabbed a handful of loot." She gives him a wry smile, not entirely serious in her chastising. The heiress moves around the table to kiss him, hands on his cheek. "I mean thank you, it's all very pretty and shiny."

STARTER CALL -- @storyofwhoiam / leah
Cee was in over her head. It was one of those moments that she realised that the way humans reproduced was designed with two parents in mind because no single person could understand the 600-page introduction to Dalton's First Program. She flips through the first few pages, and words like progressive, inclusive, and community are scattered throughout. Promises of a robust progressive framework established by a visionary educator. Fuck, wasn't this like nursery? Where was the promise of playtime and naps after juice boxes?
She leans over to the only other woman who at least seems to be there alone. "Am I just a terrible mother or is this very... full on?" To be fair, it could be both.
making you fill out like 10 forms for an ADHD assessment is a little... ironic right?

âWithout knowledge, life is not worth having.â
âI have come here to die. I die a Queen, but I would rather die the wife of Culpeper.â
âOne day I shall lie beside you again, I promise and we shall sleep together for eternity.â
âYour Majesty's life is far too precious to be put at risk against such a common rabble.âÂ
âOf course, if you choose to go, you'd be like a lion among wolves.â
âMy friend, if all ambassadors were beautiful women I'd be serving my country day and night.â
âYou hate him like a scorpion. And why? Because he would not satisfy your ambition.â
âDiplomacy is nearly always settled by such proximity.â
âI call Mary my English mare, because I ride her so often.â
âYou are a poet as I am a woman. Poets and women are always free with their hearts, are they not?â
âThere's something deep and dangerous in you, Anne, those eyes of yours are like dark hooks for the soul.â
âAs a humanist I share your opinion. As a King, I'm forced to disagree.â
âThough I love Your Majesty and I'm loyal to you, in every way, I cannot disguise my distress and unhappiness.â
"I should only ever tell the king what he ought to do, not what he could do. For if the lion knows his own strength, no man could control him."
"Blessed lady, Queen of Hearts, there will be even greater crowds than these to welcome you when you return to London."
"For every scholar that votes for you...I could find a thousand who would vote for me."
"You and I are both young, and with God's grace, boys will follow."
"You have no one to blame but yourself for this.â
âI was a true maid without touch of men. And whether or not it be true, I put it to your conscience.â
"Seduce me. Write letters to me. And poems, I love poems. Ravish me with your words. Seduce me."
"I have never known another man....and nor would I ever want to."
"If I had to choose between extreme sorrow and extreme happiness, I would always choose sorrow, for when you are happy you forget about spiritual things, you forget about God.But in your sorrow, He is always with you."
"Chastity? You talk to me about chastity when you have a mistress and two children, your Eminence."
âThis, I vow, that my eyes desire you above all things.â
âAs a humanist I have an abhorrence of war. It's an activity fit only for beasts yet practiced by no kind of beasts so constantly as by man.â
âWhat if the King doesn't know what's in his best interests?â
âIf you want to keep the love of a prince, this is what you must do: You must be prepared to give him the thing you most care for, in all the world.â
âLady Anne is so beautiful, it is the duty of every man to love her. Of course I loved her, but from a distance.â
âYou treat me so unkindly and in public neglect me.â
âMy only satisfaction is that in frustrating you I hasten your fall from the King's good graces, an outcome I desire above all others.â
âMistress Boleyn, you should not abuse the Queen's honor with such language!â
âHe was a lion in my defense. Now he will die ashamed and alone in a prison cell.â
âThen here's the truth. You must shut your eyes and endure like your betters have done before you!â
âDonât you know that I can drag you down as quickly as I raised you?â
âI am more convinced than ever that he is the agent of Satan. If I could, I would strip him from the King's side- and burn him.â
"I know of no Queen of England but my mother. And I will accept no Queen but my mother."
âIf the King's mistress would intercede with him on my behalf, then I would be grateful."
"Lady, you must know how beloved you are to the peopleâas was your mother before you, God rest her soul."
âI'm a lot older than I was when I first knew you. And wiser.â
âhave no heir. The Tudor Dynasty, all my father's work, finished, and it's MY fault!â
âHe will tire of you, like all the others.â
âYou know perfectly well what the King desires and what he shall have.â
âYou can't have 3 people in a marriage!â
âI am surprised to receive such a request from such a wise and noble man as you.â
â I am but a poor woman, lacking in both wit and understanding. How am I supposed to respond to such a request made to me out of the blue?â
âI know what you are trying to do, but do not think to take the King away from me. Let him play with you. Let him give you gifts. But he cannot give you his true heart.â
âI make you this promise. When we are married, I will deliver you a son.â
âI was wondering if you'd like to become my mistress.â
âThe brat is now officially a bastard.â
âEverything will change for her. That kiss is her destiny and fortune.â
âPeople of England, your King is unharmed!â
âAn important question, whether it is better for a king to be feared or loved.â
âI do imagine there are some at court who would like to see the Queen replaced.â
âLady Bryan, if I cannot please the King, will he kill me?â
âFor he who possesses the heir to the throne will very soon possess the throne itself.â

Bucky huffs out a laugh, reaching for the phone. His brow lifts, silently inspecting it for a moment before looking at her, shaking his head with a grin and proceeding to put his number in. "I could use some daily affirmations, so I'm gonna hold you to that." He tosses the phone back to her. "I had fun last night - Don't know if that's dorky to admit but I'm a bit rusty when it comes to this sorta thing."
"Being rusty does explain the creaking," she nods solemnly before offering up another grin. "But don't bash dorky, dorky is very hot right now."
Cee leans back against her headboard, considering her email inbox and meeting notes she had to read through. Nothing all that inviting. "Well are you... free today? Brunch dates are top tier and I have to be very hipster and go to the farmers market."
"IT WAS MY FAULT" PROMPTS * Â assorted dialogue for owning up to your mistakes, adjust as necessary
that never should have happened.
i should have listened to you from the start.
this is all my fault.
you can blame me for that.
i was completely out of line.
i screwed up.
i owe you a sincere apology.
that wasn't what i thought would happen.
now you're hurt, and it's all my fault.
will you ever forgive me?
it was an honest mistake.
i didn't mean to hurt you.
that was wrong of me, and i know it.
if only i'd been more careful.
next time, i'll be better.
please forgive me.
how can i make it up to you?
i wish i hadn't done that.
i accept responsibility.
i can't live with myself.
are you going to hold this over my head forever?
i said i was sorry.
i made the mistake of not listening to you.
please don't blame me for everything.
how many times do i have to tell you i'm sorry?
i crossed a line.
not sure what i was thinking.
the words came out wrong.
you deserve better than that.
there were plenty of other options, and i didn't listen.
i wasn't listening!
that's my fault!
i'm the one who got us into this mess.
if it weren't for me, we'd be out of here by now.
this will never happen again.
oh, i learned my lesson.
i'm forever haunted by my mistakes.
will you ever find it in your heart to forgive me?
i'll say i'm sorry until i'm blue in the face.
this wasn't part of the deal.
i never should have listened to them.
i thought i was doing the right thing.
they didn't do anything wrong. i did.
i'm the one you should blame.
i feel so wrong about this.
i didn't mean to hurt you.
be mad at me, not them.
if you want to yell and scream at me, go ahead.
it was an accident.
i don't deserve forgiveness.
if there's anything i can do to fix this, please tell me.
what can i say to make it better?
can you please take me back?
they promised me they wouldn't hurt you.
EVAN RACHEL WOOD as DOLORES ABERNATHY in WESTWORLD III
She wonât pretend that Ceceliaâs retelling hadnât lured her closer to the edge of her seat. Out here on the lawn adorned with solar lights and minikin fairy houses in the flower beds, it should seem an unsuitably dark subject â but itâs still Gotham blanketing them in smog and occluding the moon above. If anything, the conspiracy of a curse spoken with that level of nonchalance is fitting. Half the city deems themselves cursed in some way or another, or caged by the cityâs perimeters, her own husband very much included.
A faint pang steers her backward via something deep in her chest. Her back meets her seat again and she deigns to shrug.
â I know they all fucked off? â That offering isnât anywhere near as compelling as her companyâs, but it remains the truth. Grant could speak more on it; he was cognizant enough to remember that he had family⌠and that theyâd all abandoned he and his only surviving child. â Something-something âdemon possessed grandkidâ, something-something âmurder is badâ. â
A smile, ill-suited, flashes her teeth, though she doesnât expect any of it to exactly perplex Celia. She tilts her head back toward the house, â My little demon, â Arthur, â â might know some shit. I should be in France, I guess? â If âDegravesâ wasnât enough to allude to that. Her eyes widen for a girlish sort of excitement, â Maybe a few generations ago I invented the guillotine or something. â
"Hey, sometimes fucking off is the nicest thing a family can do for you."
Although Celia firmly believes that she and her brothers would have been better off if their mother had not topped herself, she's still thankful for the lessons learned. One is that love will not save you alone. Her father adored her mother and would have done anything for her, but she was still unhappy. She was still unwell, and thought the world would be better off without her. Celia has not turned to a man, or a woman, for that matter, to solve her problems. it doesn't work like that.
The second lesson was that the worst thing in the world can happen to you, and you can not only survive it but thrive from it. At four, losing a parent in such a sudden and violent way is up there with the worst things, but Celia discovered a resilience within herself she may not have discovered with her adoring and protective mother about.
Still, she would have taken the motherly love over her need to be so resilient.
"That makes sense for you," Cee agrees. "And, hey, if they did, that's a whole new line of merch. Oh my god, guillotine earrings would be so cute. Although," she takes a mouthful of wine, tilting her head, "you also give daughters of the witches they didn't burn vibes. And you know, I'm French, we could even be related."
The mention of family stirred something in him, a tight knot in his chest. Kennethâs fingers absentmindedly traced the patterns in the fabric on the armrest beside him. âI always thought I could separate myself from that, you know? But you can't outrun your blood. It has a way of sticking to you, embedding itself in your choices, your reactions⌠You look in the mirror and see them staring back at you.â
Perhaps a bit deeper than Cee intended this conversation to be. "What about you? Tell me all the fucked up things in your family tree."
Cee gives a gentle laugh to his question while quietly agreeing with his statement. "No, I shan't tell you a thing about them. It's all far too terrible."
She is lucky enough to say that while she is well aware of her family's faults, she's never truly wanted to be different from them. Her parents were loving in their own way, and she was close to her brothers. There is a history of violence and cruelty, perhaps, but even that can be twisted into something more productive.
"I'm going to get some wine," she says, standing up. "Take the spare room?"
WESTWORLD ⢠3x01
âNot the weight of the body but the fact of the body. Not the shape of the body but the needs of the body. How inconvenient to be made of desire. Even now, want rises up in me like a hot oil. I want so much that it scares me. I donât know what Iâm made of; I wish I did. That I could gut myself like a fish or a fruit.â

i was thinking, what if we go public? plaster the story all over the internet.
ask meme, probably -- @letemoin
"And let it get lost with every other nut job's Twitter ravings? The internet is not the place it once was, mon cheri. It means less." Cee looks back at the wall, a confusing map of papers and photos, leaked documents, and stolen filesâan impressive history of wrongdoing. And it means fuck all; the photos of goons passing paper envelopes to police officials tell you that. It's nothing new in this world, but it's still depressing.
Or it would be if Cecelia hadn't also benefitted from the greed of powerful men in her lifetime. Small-time crimes, she reminds herself. A police officer being sweet-talked into turning the head for a seventeen-year-old with coke is not the same as a murderous gangster type who seems to be besties with both sides of the political spectrum. Cee folds her arms, reading another document with interest.
"You also need to ask, is this really as high as you can go? He could be the stepping stone to someone bigger, badder. Ever thought of blacking mailing the guy?"
