Did you see any change?
The change was that I didn’t use any more plastic bags.
What were the challenges?
The challenge was trying to remember to bring a reusable bag with me when I went grocery shopping.
How could you improve if you tried to do this again?
I would improve by buying a chic reusable bag to match my outfits at least, so I could remember and match.
Will you continue this challenge in the future?
I’ll try.

How do you think you could decrease the amount of waste you produce?
I mean like, using reusable containers, bottles, plastic, containers.

I’m Turkish I can’t buy lunch more than once .*Laughs*

None anymore, I bring a reusable bottle now.
How often do you buy packaged junk food in a week on average?
I don’t but I buy a lot of chocolate at once for the month.
Would you say you are confident in your ability to sort waste?
*Laughs* with the help of Ivy Salloum. I feel like I do pretty well but I need reassurance.
Do you compost at home or at school?
Yes at home, we have a compost at the back, and at school we use the caf compost.
How do you dispose of hazardous waste materials?
Well my dad is the painter so he deals with that and my mom deals with batteries and stuff so I’m not sure.
How do you dispose of old clothing?
I give it to people in Turkey, Cuba, and Value Village. I don’t actually throw out clothing, If anything we use them for cloths.
How often do you buy second-hand clothing?
I wouldn’t say its impossible but rarely. I go vintage shopping.
Do you use plastic bags when shopping?
Plastic bags, unless I go with my grandfather. Depends on who I go with.
Do you try to avoid buying packaged items?
I wouldn’t buy something if it had too much packaging.

I don’t know, I’ve never used them before so I wouldn’t say yes or no.

I feel like I have done a little bit more to sort trash. I’ve taken my time to read what they say on the bins before throwing it in.

I used reusable bags this week. *Interviewer is impressed and shows this excitement* I know.

No. Yes. Hmm. Somewhat. I know that compost goes in the compost and I know what can be recycled but I don’t exactly know what the garbage is for.

Yes. And not at school. *Admittedly* I put the compost in the recycling, okay?

Recycling. Wait no, the garbage. Sometimes my grandmother puts dead batteries in the fridge because she thinks they’ll recharge.

Either donation or I give them to my cousins.

I don’t really shop often but I’d say like 70% of the time. Actually, when I shop I don’t even get enough to need a bag.

I recognize what is way too much plastic on some things, but I don't go out of my way to not buy it.

Introduction
I spend a lot of time with my friends. I’m with them as much as possible in school, and outside of class, I hang out with my friends from different schools. I also notice a considerable difference between each one of my friends and their consumer waste production levels. I wanted to interview the people closest to me, ask about how much they waste and give them an assignment to carry out for the span of a week. After the week is up, I’ll interview them once again and ask how it went and share my findings here.
