"Dictionary Work (1997) presents, quite literally, a definition of the 'Palestinian' articulated by the English-speaking West. The work is related formally to Joseph Kosuth's dictionary works, yet it goes beyond their conceptual and cerebral concerns by infusing the object itself with both tactile expressiveness and psycho-political meaning. Rabah's work is constructed from an English pocket dictionary nailed open on the page that includes the entry 'Philistine'. The meaning of thew ord in English is based upon 'historical' racist notions, regarding the inhabitants of ancient Palestine."
